That's a very complicated question... :-) But basically, Chick Lit is literature from a female perspective. Popular examples include Bridge Jones Diaries and the Nanny Diaries, for example. Basically and generally it is anything that follows a woman's viewpoint about particular subjects and situations. If you look over at the "Chick Lit Cliches" topic, you can see some of the more lighthearted sides of chick lit, though really it is a pretty broad umbrella. It can be funny, light-hearted, serious, fantastical, and include elements from other genres as well.
