Ok now... you know Nano fever is getting serious when this thread shows up!
It's awwwnnn!
The Kickoff Party for Nano Sydney 2007 (thanks to Killraven for lining this up with Kino's)
Date: Sunday 28th October (as close to Nov as we can get on a weekend)
Time: 1pm to 4pm.
Place: Cafe just to the left of the main door into the Kinokuniya Bookstore (same place as last year), The Galleries Victoria, Level 2, 500 George Street (opposite QVB), Sydney NSW 2000.
Bring: Your good selves, anyone else that wants to know what Nano is about, your warm beverage drinking shoes, a little cash for said beverages, and a desire to mingle with others who are as crazy about writing as you!
How to get there: From the turnstiles to the north (QVB end) of Town Hall Station, head towards QVB but take the fork to the right (takes you under George St to Galleries Victoria). Walk along about 50m and you'll see an escalator on the right hand side of the arcade. Go up. Keep going up (2 more floors) and you'll be deposited right out the front of Kino's, facing the cafe through the glass wall. Too easy!
Questions/Problems/Etc: Nanomail me or on the day, call 0433 256 430 and I'll try to sort out your problem.
Ray

I'll be there and might drag one of my socialist house mates along. The place is like 5 minutes from where I work during the week, but I don't think I've ever been there. I usually get my books from Borders at Pitt Street Mall.

I'm there Max,
You know I love to spend my time (and money...) at Kinokuniya. It's a great place. One of my favourite bookstores in Sydney.
Problem is, I never get out of there without handing over cash. /Sigh...

Dammit, I'm busting to come to this, but my plans may have been thwarted by mein job. I'll see if I can cry off work, but if not I'll be with you humanoids in spirit. Raise a glass of Chateau Colostomy in memory of your fallen comrade.

my paretns are messing with me. First mum said I could go. Then she said she'll come with me. Now it's supposed to be a family-day-out. half of my family doesn't read and protests strongly to being pulled into a bookstore. I don't know who I'll be bringing (one, three, seven people) but I'm going to be there.
I was just fore-warning you all.

It's me again. Wondering: is there any way we could get the media to visit our Kickoff party? Seeing as how it's still 4 days before November 1, we might be able to tell more people about it, and they'd still have time to join (I know that you can join at any time during Nov, but most people won't want to begin after everyone else). Guys? Is this a good (or possible) idea?

I reckon it wouldn't be too difficult. As long as you shoot out an email to the outlets beforehand. I know that the Daily Telegraph loves to cover non-important news stories.

Both Modestly Blaze and myself have been trying to drum up media interest in Nano. We have as yet got no replies. If anyone does know someone at the aforementioned papers, please give them the details and get them down there!
Thanx,

And, I am most certainly in. I jumped right in last year but didn't manage to stick to my writing and never made it to any of the other meet ups.
Hopefully now, a whole year later, I'll be able to jump right back in with a completely new story and a completely new gameplan.
My main regret last year was failing to make any contacts in the writing community, and sitting at home to do all of my writing.
And thank the irony gods that this is on a sunday. I'm working the four day's prior to and two days after the 28th. I can't believe my timetable worked out so perfectly for this.

I'll be at work all day. *sigh*
Still, I work in a bookstore (unfortunately not Kino's) so it's not all bad.

Re: media interest - may have a small story in the local North Sydney papers sometime, on the back of holding write-ins at Stanton Library. Will let you know if it comes to fruition.
Will also drop a line to some other media contacts soon in case someone might be interested.

Just realized that the KO party is this weekend!
My schedule is a bit up in the air at the moment so I hope I can go. If I do, I hope I can bring my socialist housemate. He's gonna do 25,000 words. It's gonna be awesome. Two socialist-novelists in one household going nuts.
I pity the other three living with us.

Hey folks,
I've just emailed Bookworm (the literary events listing page) in the Sydney Morning Herald with details of Sunday's Kickoff, so hopefully we'll get a listing in Spectrum.
I told them about the write-ins planned at Macquarie and Stanton Library, and promised we'd keep them up to date with news throughout the month of November. I didn't mention the Starbar write-ins (want to wait until Killraven confirms).
Meantime, I got together with our fearless leader Maxtac a couple of weeks ago, and put together another little article. You can read it on my blog here. http://www.control-edit.com/?p=48.
Looking forward to putting faces to names on Sunday. Now, got to get planning on that novel... only 6 sleeps to go!
