Come on guys, lets get some traffic flowing on the home board!

What are you writing for NaNoWriMo? Is it something fun and off the cuff, incorporating board dares? Do you have a kernal of an idea that you're going to chase down like a dog running after a squirrel? Do you have a detailed outline, character portraits and know exactly where you are going? Tell us!

I'll go first. (Seems only polite.)

I pretty much stick to fantasy and science fiction, with a smattering of horror/dark fantasy. This year I've decided that I'm going to work on a project I began as an exercise for Forward Motion's free 2-Year Novel Writing Class. (Forward Motion is a fantastic site ... a quick google search will turn up the forums, which are a lovely community.) I was trying to get away from last years NaNo, which I won at the 50,000 mark but didn't finish the story until January of 2008. I wanted something to play with that I wasn't attached to. There are weekly exercises to get you to work on the idea slowly. I'm woefully behind but sure I can crank out the rest of the world-building and maybe slap together an outline.

Anyway, it's a dark fantasy set in a fantasy asian-themed world that deals with death and the spirit world. It's very rough in my mind, unlike last year's efforts where I had a clear story in my head. (And I am starting to worry that I'm chosing stories for NaNo that require too much world building ... maybe setting myself up for difficulties.)

So, it may go well, or I may let it become an exploration, wandering and detailing as I go into a travel/test narrative.
Or, if that doesn't work, I will trot out a half-plotted urban fantasy dealing with werewolves and curses.
Or, if that doesn't work, I might just go for the silly and let it all hang out, an anime inspired romp that includes every dare and cliche I can think of.

My only problem is that I'm on vacation for a quarter of the month. :p

SO? What about you guys?!?!?! :)

I dont really know yet, I might just end up re writing a story I wrote for my L.A. class back in grade 2. Thats almost 7 years ago, so it probably needs some serious work, But the only problem is that it's only 15k words, and I'm all out of ideas for it.

It's about this ordinary girl. Nobody knows her first name, so everyone calls her Rogue, which is her last name. When she turns 7, her whole world is turned upside down. First, her dad starts teaching her about their family history, where she finds out about the family's magic powers. But, unlike the rest of the family, just by learning about her ancestors, she can see and talk to them, as well as understand what they're saying.
But then, a year later her father is killed by one of the city gangs. Then her mother forbids her from ever using her magic again, and dies just two weeks before Rogue's tenth birthday. So now she's all alone, living off of what she can steal. The house burnt halfway down a year after her mom died, so now its just the kitchen and master bedroom. The bathroom is just an empty room with a shower and toilet now, where it once held a sink, tub, and jacuzzi as well. She's had to sell most of her 'rents stuff just to get by. All she has left that she's not willing to sell is the family history. She meets up with a couple of kids with the same abilities as her, and they become fast friends.
The other kids have had basically the same experiences as Rogue, so they band together to figure out why their families were killed, and why their life has been full of shit since.

Well, I just found about the NaNoWriMo a couple of days ago. But I already have an idea brewing. I've always been a fan of smart thrillers, more in the vein of Hannibal and Saw. Anyway, my story is partially inspired by the character Scarecrow from Batman. More I was impressed with his ability to talk people into doing a variety of things just by talking to them and using nothing but his words. So I'm thinking I will have a killer who has an ability just like that, convincing a person to kill or commit other crimes just by solely talking to them. Other than that I really don't have much, but I'm trying to plan it out somewhat. Also thinking of adding a romance interest in there, maybe a girl who knows what he does but cannot bring herself to do what's right as he keeps convincing her to go along. I'll have to see what else I can come up with.

I think I've decided to work on a story idea I've had brewing for a while. It's a fantasy about a man who is searching to find his childhood friend / the woman he loves, who is trapped in an alternate dimention (which is actually the same place a few hundred years in the past).

I think I'll just write whatever comes to mind and some how work in Quebec's separation at some point. I'm aiming for a satire or comedy, really.

Ashtal -- triple post power! As for removing them, I don't have the power because the mod powers are broken. Don't worry about it.

I'm writing WoW-Fan-Fiction because I'm lazy this year. I don't feel like thinking up an original story idea after the bomb I wrote (but loved the theory behind) last year. It was ultimately disappointing.

I want to write a parallel worlds SF story. Not sure how it's going to go, but it will involve a very arrogant population of one version of Earth that somehow believes their world is the original Earth and all other (equally real) Earths are just pale shadows of theirs.

I don't really know what's going to happen, but yesterday's baby abduction here in Sudbury struck me to the core, and I want to incorporate a similar situation into my story somehow.

I'm revisiting a story I had started penning a couple of years ago in high school called Children of Earth. Basically its a SF story about a civilization that sprung from human colonists cut off from Earth and their war with an alien race. Along the way, they discover some pretty surprising things about their so-called enemies and themselves--I really am trying to make this a story that is as much character-driven as it is plot-driven. It'll be big, epic and powerful...hopefully. Its only nov. 3rd after all :D

I started with the first seed of a story that came to mind when I signed up. I like the thought of just seeing where that leads me because I am a plotter. I usually have ever scene plotted out before I even begin. I want to try something new and different and see where it leads me. It's women's fiction and I've started with a character's name and the basic premise of searching for love in all the wrong places.

Okay, so I seem to have built a synopsis.

I'm writing about a Canadian guitarist in France who over hears a conversation with the President of France and some high up guy in Canada about using come loophole in Canadian legislation to seed the province of Quebec to France
and the guitarists fight to keep Canada together. There will also be a romance. Oh, and it's suppose to be a comedy/satire but thus far thing haven't been funny, so we'll see.

I'm writing a thriller set in ancient Egypt. King Unas uses his sarcophagus for out of body travel to find the gods but the high priest decides to mummify his body during one of the excursions leaving him trapped without a body. He eventually meets a shaman on his own excursion sans body who shows him how to enter the bodies of animals. He's a nasty character who is trapped and cannot die until he redeems himself through a selfless act. Lots of research required.

I'm writing my autobiography. I thought it would be a nice idea, since I'm 25 and have now survived a quarter-century on this earth. I was afraid I wouldn't have time to do Nano this year, with my busy teaching schedule, but I've managed to fit time in to stay on track. I also thought I would get bored of writing about myself, but all these memories are fun to relive. I recommend writing your life history to anyone. It's pretty fun!
