I'm seeing several people saying they're from Delaware or Chester County. I was wondering - are there suggestions for meeting places in these areas?
I was thinking the Barnes and Noble in Valley Forge or Broomall might be workable. Is anyone close enough to these to have write-ins there? Have any other ideas?
(Before anyone asks, I am not the municipal liaison... if I'm taking the organizing away from someone, feel free to yell at me. I just got tired of seeing lots of replies of where people are and no replies on where we can meet.)

I frequent the B&N in Exton myself, but I know where the one in Valley Forge is, and I'm sure I could get to Broomall. Really, I'm up for anything :)

Well, whereever we meet (I prefer somewhere closer to Havertown - maybe meet in the middle at King of Prussia?) it should stay open late. Most bookstores close at 10 pm. I vote for an "ahem" establishment that perhaps has alcohol. Or, maybe we meet up to write at the bookstore then head out for a drink after? Do we have a municipal liason yet?

I don't think I could do a write-in at a bar or restaurant. I don't need complete silence to write, but those kind of places are just too loud. Plus, if people are making a hike to meet up somewhere, I'm not sure encouraging alcoholic beverages is the smartest idea. (Just my thoughts, of course, and if others like that idea, I'm welcome to not attend, hehe.)

Yeah, and some of us aren't legal drinking age... might cause some troubles.

Okay, how about this... We'll meet at 6pm on November 2nd at the Valley Forge Barnes & Noble. (It's about ten minutes from King of Prussia, I believe, so it's about as fair as we can get.) When we get there, we can discuss whether or not we want to keep meeting in the same place or meet somewhere else. As far as drinking goes, I'm not a drinker myself (I just don't like the taste so spending money on it is kind of a waste.) After we have our write-in, though, people can obviously do whatever they want.
As far as I know, there's still no municipal liaison. I have no problems organizing this particular group if no one else wants to, but I know I can't be ML for the Philadelphia region.
If people would rather get together on the 1st instead, let me know ASAP. I figured the 2nd was still pretty close to kick-off and people don't have to rush off for work the next day.

That would mostly work for me -- I work until 6:30, so it would probably be closer to 7 before I could get there, but if you promise to be there for a couple hours, I can make it! :)

yes I think that will work for me, but I can't get there before 7 either.
Where is it exactly and where in the store will you be?
Peace.

I live on the Main Line so meeting at Valley Forge would be perfect. I vouch for Nov. 1 but it seems like Nov. 2 is preferable for most people. If Nov. 2 will be the kick-off meeting date, I'd love to join the next meeting, however, Fridays might be tricky for me this year... :(
I'm also not a smoker/drinker either so I'd prefer quieter places like Barnes N' Noble or a late-night cafe.

I second the Barnes and Noble suggestion. Its quiet, has a cafe, and comfortable. (Their lounge chairs are the best!) Perhaps the one near Gateway? Just a suggestion, I can go pretty much wherever.

Ok so where is the Barnes and Noble in Valley Forge? I'm in Montco but that's not too far from me. (I'm in Lansdale so KOP is about 20 minutes.)

ETA: The second is fine with me. That gives me the first day to organize how I'm going to be putting my story between two computers.
ETAx2: Never mind I found the BN in Valley Forge, it's where the Valley Forge Music Fair used to be.

We'll meet in the cafe area. I'll bring some sort of NaNoWriMo sign so people can see us. Also - don't worry if you come late. It's come when you can, leave when you need to. (I'll probably have to leave around 8:30 since one of my friends is having a birthday party.)

Do you know if there's places to plug in in the cafe? My laptop battery sucks like no other (it's a work laptop) just starting it up would drain it, lol.
Otherwise I'm writing some by hand that night. Which might not be a bad idea cause then I can do some scratch writing.
Also just to note I may be numb cause I've got a dentist appt. early that afternoon.

Hi everyone -
Several members of my writing group (Chester County Writers Workshop) who are particpating in NaNo this year are thinking of meeting at the Exton Barnes and Noble on Monday, November 5 . at 7:30 pm for a write-in/ kick-off whatever.
Nothing definite yet - just gauging interest. Any other takers?

I believe, if you're talking and the B&N cafe in Valley Forge (or any B&N or Borders, for that matter) that they have some plugs in the pillars and occasionally the back balls of the cafe areas. Haven't used my laptop there recently, but I'm pretty sure I saw people plugged in when I was there a few weeks ago.
I think it all depends on whether there are enough plugs for the people with their trusty computers. I've been at the B&N in Plymouth Meeting when you couldn't get a seat, people were sitting on the floor and there was an actual waiting list for the next available plug. Of course, that was April of last year, when everyone in the local colleges was trying to finish their term papers.
A Friday night in the VF area should, I think, be quieter. . .

TOTALLY INTERESTED!!! Exton on Monday is perfect. I have no stickers to identify me or anything, but I'll just look for the band of people with laptops. :)
I am way too excited about NaNoWriMo this year. I hope it doesn't wear off. lol

Hi there! I live near pottstown, but work in Exton. So I could do meet ups either at Valley Forge or Exton. I'll try to make the VF meeting Friday, I don't think I'm free monday night.
This is my first nanowrimo, should be interesting. It's giving me the motivation to finally write a story that I had the outline made up, for oh, about 2 years now.... just the kick in the pants I needed! :)

I can definitely do the Exton B&N on Monday. I'll probably head there right after I get off work, so I'll try to snag the good table by the plug and chairs. LOL
(That reminds me, gotta pick up a surge plug and/or one of those squid plug thingys this weekend...)
And I will be at the VF B&N on Friday, too! Yaaaaaay :D

Hey, All!
Good luck, good luck, good luck!
This is my first time and I'm really excited. I can't make it to a write in on Friday, but I'd love to join in the one at the B&N in Exton on Monday. See whoever there!

Yeah, a multi-plug-in really helped our write-ins last year. IKEA has them pretty cheap. I have a sprained foot, and now that the boot is off, I might be able to start driving farther away than Springfield, but I have to test it first. :) So I might be able to make it to the write-in in Exton on Monday... But anyone for meeting up in Springfield sometime soonish? During the week is best for me, my weekends have gotten busy this November.

I'm with Amy on this one. Weekends are incredibly busy for me in November too. My preferences lean toward Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays, but I can make a Tuesday one now and then. Fridays and Saturdays will be tough.
I can bring an extra surge protector. I DID get it from IKEA and they're quite cheap.

I'm going to try to get to the one in center city tonight and i may try to hit up the valley forge one tomorrow, but that's tentative as i have a lot of stuff to do to prep for a business trip i leave on Sunday for and dot return until the 9th. I'm hoping to sneak tons of writing time in while I'm gone though. I'll keep checking back to see what other write-ins i can make as I'm eager to meet and write with everyone! this is my first nano, so I'm definitely interested in meeting other writerly types. :)
I'm located in the Yeadon/Lansdowne area, so weeknights i wouldn't be able to get out to the valley forge area until 7 or later as i work until 5 and it usually takes me until 6-6:30 to get back to my house. If anyone organizes anything in the Springfield/Upper Darby-ish areas, definitely toss me a message because those will be the quickest and easiest for me to get to mid-week. Most weekends I'm up for just about anything and am willing to travel a bit more (minus this weekend due to the previously mentioned business trip.

I should be at the Valley Forge B&N write-in tomorrow, if all goes well with my workday!
The Borders at the KOP mall is also a good place -- there's a pretty large cafe there. But that would close when the mall closes, probably like 9:30, whereas B&N is open till 10 or 11.
