I noticed on the intro thread that one of the MLs for Hawaii (Sweetirony) has challenged us to an inter-region competition. I think it sounds like a fantastic idea.

I've just posted on their discussion thread to say hi but thought I'd post this as a separate topic here outside of the intro thread and see what interest it gathers.

I think the challenge is along the lines of 'the highest average of whoever says they're in'. Of course, because we're proud of our win/participant ratio here in New Zealand I'd want to challenge on that so maybe we can suggest we do both ... either way, it's all about getting more people writing more words so that'll be good no matter what.

How does that work with the time zone business kerryn,? we just stop on our midnight hour, and their graph keeps going to equal out.

Hey New Zealand! The widgets are customizable to show average word count per participant, so maybe we can use that to determine the winner? If you guys want to compare number of wins per participant too, and have a way to do that, we can look at that at the end of the month too. :D

We are being beaten so far, I've gotta get my Wrimos in gear! ;)

Hey, that's pretty good, being able to do the average.

How are you guys doing over there with meet-ups? I guess Honolulu will have a number of people, but what about the rest of the state? Are there any meet-ups on the other islands?

We had 2 (besides MLs) at the Halloween thing, 12 at the kickoff, and 9 at the first write-in. Tomorrow some of us are trekking over to the Windward side for a write-in, and Monday we're going to Ewa. Over Thanksgiving break Jon and I are going to island-hop to Maui, Kona, and Hilo to have events there, which I really hope somebody comes to! ;D

That's so cool. I definintely think we should go by average per person. Especially with such a funky widget to tell us how we're going. :)

I'm in. I've finished the past couple of years, I see no reason I won't finish this year as well. More motivation to start writing before bedtime arrives each night won't hurt either.

I'm IN ... the motivation can only be a good thing.

So, what's the weather like in Hawaii at the moment? Is it kind of 'wrong-time-of-year-for-writing-weather' like we are SUPPOSED to be getting or is it all wintery and 'staying-inside-to-write-is-cool' sort of thing?

Hey hey New Zealand! I can't help but notice that your average wordcount is currently less than a day's worth (1667) ahead of us... only 1522 difference! ;)

The weather here is sunny and hot. The first week or so of November though, we had buckets of rain. I had to ride my moped in it and ended up completely soaked through.

Come on all you kiwis ... get those wordcounts updated to what they REALLY are, so we can show those Hawaiians just how far in our dust they are ;)

I'm still going, only slower at the moment (stupid computer problems). That isn't all one at the moment - I'm hoping to end up with 100k. Somedays it seems a fools errand.

The competition is hotting up. It looks like it's going to be neck and neck (on average word count) going into the home straight! It's hard to tell with the time difference though.

Either way, it's been pretty good competition and both sides are doing well. Can't wait 'til we get to find out what the percentage of winners are. NZ usually comes up good in that department - let's keep our great record going!

We seem to be keeping a steady 1800 or so words ahead of the competition.

What I keep wondering is how many NZers have out of date word counts on their profiles... I'm pretty sure there's one or two or seven of them :)

Hehe, so today, the final Sunday of the month, we're now edging about 2,400 words ahead :-)

Well done New Zealand and keep going!

I think we've been ahead about 2400 words for the last two or three days. It's great.

My only battle is deciding whether or not to keep writing...
