I'm so sorry to miss the write-in tomorrow night! I will be out of town until Monday, so I will miss all our write-ins until then. I'm sorry to miss anyone, if this will be their first time to a write-in.

Halfway Home Shoutout!

I know several people are already there -- most notably Lizzy (woot!) -- but I couldn't resist giving myself a little pat on the back.

I rolled over 25,000 earlier today (though the software keeps losing my update!). I'm ending the day at 26,465. And that's with taking six whole days off -- four for an exhausting but exhilarating fiction-writing workship and another two days to make sense of my notes from the workshop.

I'm taking another week off starting Sunday. I'll be at a writers retreat, but plan to work on editing East of Jesus rather than drafting this one. So I need to get ahead tomorrow and Saturday! Dr. Wicked is my friend!

Did you know there is a writing group in this county? The Lewis County Writers Guild meets every third Friday at the Matrix Coffeehouse. Tonight's meeting, which starts with a social hour at 5pm is, of course, a write-in. Not everyone in our guild does nano, so hopefully those who don't will be there to cheer us on. At 8pm anyone who wishes to read from their new novel or any other spoken word can join the open mic. Or, you can just keep writing! Hope to see you there.

Our Regional Word count

Hey Killer Mud Penguins,
I looked our region up on the Word Count scoreboard. We're at number 333. not bad, but if we keep up on posting our updates we can move up Should we challenge Moscow Idaho at 316 to a word war or is that too big a stretch? I hear they have a lot of inteelekuals out there that could give us a challenge. What dya say Liz, oh wise leader. Last year, as I recall, we beat the hell out of Estonia, an entire country! BTW I can't twitter cuz I don't have the technological skills. This year I learned how to use a cell phone(just the basics, no texting yet) and how to read the results of my lottery tickets Iwith the maching in the convenience store. I do have a bird character named Twit from last year's novel before we all heard about twittering. She's a lovely starling, part of Tweeter's DoWop choir

We have pulled ahead to position number 316 in the world in wordiness, and we are doing a fabulous job! In number of words per person, we are ahead of the number one region, Seattle. Great job, everyone!!

Now, for a plug for the other regional standing: in the donation derby, we are sorely falling behind. Although these are tough times, and the holidays are soon to be here, it would be wonderful if each of us could donate at least $5 to the Office of Letters and Light for those wonderful libraries they build. Remember, your donations are tax deductible.

We, the members of the NaNoWriMo Region of United States :: Washington :: Lewis County, do hereby declare war (word war!) on the members of Elsewhere :: Brazil. Although we realize we are outnumbered and we will be the underdogs in this battle, we are still anxious to take on the challenge.

Our reasons in declaring war on you are:

1. Because we are a rather obscure region, and relatively unknown in the world and we are seeking to gain fame and recognition by attacking an area that is historically and culturally a little more important on the world stage than our region;

2. Because you are already so far ahead of us that we will have to write furiously to even attempt to catch you, thereby inciting our own members to greater word counts;

3. Because it will be fun.

Please note that by this post, we consider ourselves at war with you, and we will type to win, or until our fingers can type no more!

Don't forget to come down to the Matrix for a write-in tonight. I'll be set up in the front room around 4pm if anyone wants to start early, but the official start time is 5pm. We can write all evening, (but not all night.) We also have a critique group meeting from 5:30-7:30 Come watch them smash my unedited trash! ALSO, if you don't want to write we have comedy and music with Cricket tonight...he's hilarious! And if you tell him a little about your novel he'll give you some wacky idea you can use.

Anyone up for a costume party???

Hi all! Hope the writing is going well!!!

Well during the Sunday Night Write in (we had a pretty good turn out!) we got the idea of holding a costume party/write in this month. You can dress up as one of your characters or anything else (and when i say anything i mean anyTHING) to spice things up a bit.

So here's the question (or three) for everyone:

1. How many people would be interested in this?
2. Any ideas on where to hold it? (we're looking for somewhere public)
3. When would be a good time for everyone? (early evenings seem to be working for people)

So just give us a hollar on what you think!

Write-Ins -- what time is best for you?

I thought to start a separate thread for write-ins. It would be great to try to make write-ins available to as many writers as possible. To begin, we have scheduled Thursday, early evenings at the Centralia library. I think we have Friday evening write-ins scheduled, too.

Preventing the second-week-quit

I have read that the second week is when the most people quit. I know that will likely be when I want to give up, so instead of writing everything I can think of for my story I make a note of my idea and if I don't get to it in the first 2,000 words for the day I save it for tomorrow. That way I won't face a huge writer's block next week. Do you think this is a good idea or do people give up for other reasons than lack of ideas? Should I just get as many words as possible written now?

Thanks to everyone who showed up for the Write-in at the Matrix. It was a BLAST! I went to bed at 8:30 the next two nights, so I'm caught up on sleep. Now I have to catch up on words! Hope to see people Friday night. You can start coming in at 5pm and stay...well...not ALL night, but at least until around 10pm. We have song circle that night, no cover charge, nice "background" live music. I'll try to line up the extension chords, but if somebody brings extras that would be great.

NaNoWriMo Kick Off Party Planning

Hello fellow NaNo’ers!
I'm Sylista A.K.A Jennifer. (I'm the one who wrote about the crazy red headed vampire.)

We are in the initial planning stages of a NaNoWriMo Kick off Party to take place November 1st just before midnight at the Matrix and run until the dawn! (and later hopefully!)

We will be having the write off starting at 11:59 with the count down and book drop (instead of the ball drop). Don't feel like changing? Come show off your Halloween Costume!

We will have a small area blocked off for people who want to catch a few winks during the wee early morning hours. Everyone is encouraged to bring your own pillows and blankets. We will have a few blankets on hand as well. There will be a heater in the room but the rest of the Matrix, as we know, can get a bit chilly so be sure to dress warm!

The regular menu will be available as well as a special Breakfast menu to select from during the write in (proceeds will help with the cost of heating and the Nachoes are amazing to boot!).

Now on to the one detail we would like to know:
How many people will be able to come to this kick off?

In order to make sure we will have the proper facilities, we are looking for a head count of who would be interested in coming to the kick off.
If we have only a few people we would consider moving it to another location but right now we are planning to hold the event at the Matrix. We encourage as many members to attend as possible.
We are looking at a start time of roughly 11:45 with the final countdown to kick off beginning at 11:59 with the book drop.

If you have questions or would like to let us know you can come, feel free to put a post here or email me at jashakaru@yahoo.com and put Kick Off Party in the subject line, that way I know it’s a NaNo thing. I will also address this at the October 17th meeting at the Matrix.

Passports!

There will be passports available at the Centralia Library, and I will make more and bring them to the write-ins. I'm usually at the Matrix write-ins and of course I'll be working during the library write-ins. I wish I had managed to make some today at work, but it'll have to wait until Monday. Sorry! If you go to any local cafes between now and then, just ask if they're participating, and if they can give you a stamp or sticker to put in your passport when you get one. Which you will, I promise.
