Where do your stories take place? Are most of them in the Philippines?
Mine is set in Greenwich Village, NYC. Still gonna have to do more research on that, though. LOL.

Mine's gonna be in the Philippines...the past three novels I wrote were also here. :D I used to write novels with their settings in another country, but I have a hard time with details and whatnot (that's why I don't write fantasy novels) so I veer away from that.
But I will try it sometime. :D This year's novel is already set in the Philippines so I can't get it out. :D

I don't really know yet. But what I have in mind is that I'm gonna make a new place. Sorta like my own planet. haha. :)

Mine's an entirely different universe. I had it planned for a while now, but it's not complete. But I think the details I have will suffice.

mine as well. It's set in the future, and in the future anything can happen, right? xD it's hard writing about a place I've never actually been to, after all. :[ but if I were to write another novel, it must be fun setting it in Europe...

Exactly why I don't like writing about other countries and all. For a "writer", I lack imagination. Haha.
My novel's timelines usually play with the current years as well. See, how unimaginative. LOL. :D

well, i don't think it's about imagination so much as experience, right? xD
if I read a novel situated in the Phil by say, a German (who's never been here before) I'd be pretty critical about getting the facts right.
and there's nothing wrong with a novel set in current times!

In my File of Mankind: "Tungo sa Bagong Paraiso" or in its English RPG Maker 2003 entitled File of Mankind: "Towards the New Paradise", my novel takes place in three gigantic starships from the Philippines namely Gomez, Burgos and Zamora. Also, the planets were named as Trillanes 7, Arroyo 4, Rizal 2, and Bonifacio 5.
I was even planning to make DESTROY 11-7 novel but I don't want to enter it this year 'cuz of its upcoming controversies in the making. That DESTROY 11-7 is the Philippine version of America's 9-11.

hehe, guess you guys have already settled yr settings then. I actually was suposed to make my 2007 entry my second 2006 entry but then i though i should spend more time thinking about how to make it better for the following year(this year).
My story, Littletown Breadmill, is set on an imaginary world where the place is called...."Littletown Breadmill"....yah...
It's actualy a real world representation of where i live....sorta.
But then again it may be, it may be not...im not sure. I got to the point fo making the divisions for the episodes...though beased on exp, it does not always end up that way.
BTW, who among you people got to have their novel printed by Lulu last year?

Korea but it's an alternate universe so it doesn't matter if I'm accurate in my description or not.. Except for the name of the 6 main characters everything else is imaginary.

I'm not exactly sure where my story is going to take place. Most probably it's going to be in Japan, but if I can help it then maybe it'll be an entirely new world... with a few twists here and there ^_^

blueblood: Thank you for the vote of confidence. Haha. I tried making a fantasy story once but it is still very much like Earth, only a lot more...Sailormoon-y. Haha forgive me I used to love that cartoon. =D

I'm planning on writing a young adult novel titled "Pinoy."
It will be a coming of age story set in Central Luzan during the Huk Rebellion.
The thing is, I'm an American, living in California. Is there anyone out there that could share some research tips and/or personal anecdotes?

Mine's (well, I'm taking Tinamats email seriously and letting myself be known) an indeterminate place...but the character injects Filipino and Bisaya into her speech once or twice. Sometimes she's understood, sometimes she's not.
If I put in language notes, will that count in the 50,000 words? Coz I was going to include a Bisaya couplet in there somewhere...*sigh*

crayon_ponyfish: Hi! I'll get back on you on this, I'll give you some resources. =)
Yami Neko Tenshi: Hey! Thanks for making your presence known. :P I think that would count to 50000 words. :D I'm planning to put some Tagalog words in just to make the conversation more realistic, so why not? :)

...Tagalog and a Bisaya couplet somewhere. My goodness. Why not chuck some French, as Solea is a french word, I think...hee hee. Thanks for your comment. I'm playing with my outline, doing research, stuff like that.
I always do my research beforehand, so I can devote the whole month to the novel. Though seeing as I'm a HS junior, I have no idea how to balance all this and win. Oh well.
LET'S GO PINOYS!

I'm still deciding if my story should take place in the Philippines or the US. I'm going to have to make up a suburb if I choose the latter ^^;;.

My story unfolds in the Philippines, somewhere in Manila, and it will be current (or at least within the 2000-present timeline). I had planned to write a Final Fantasy-esque story, but I'd have to do a lot of research first. Maybe next year. :P

mine is set on the world, post-nuclear war. if any of you know the game fallout it's a lot like that, though the story slowly sets itself in a weird west setting, or something like that. all my stories are half-planned, half-assed, lol.

I'm still trying to decide between London or Tokyo since I've been to both a number of times already and am familiar with both places. However, I'm more in tune with the culture in Japan, seeing that they're more or less similar in some ways to Filipino culture.
But London seems like a much better place to throw in a boarding school than in Tokyo.

Well, this is certainly unusual. :)
Hm. I'm not sure if there is much information on that online, by try checking on President Ramon Magsaysay or on Benigno Aquino, who were personalities during that time, IIRC. Also, if your in California, try your local library or check out UCLA, as I think they may have courses/books on those subjects (since California has one of the largest concentration of Filipinos outside the Philippines).

Wherever our settings may be, where we authors really come from will still show through our writing. =D
Mine is totally in Metro Manila. Only a Filipino (bah, someone who has lived here and not Filipino-blooded people from anywhere else; I'm Chinese anyway =D) can genuinely write about the Philippines.

Mine's based on the colonial Spanish era... around late 16th to early 17th century. I might be incorporating steampunk elements and I hope I don't end up mangling our history real badly. >_> It's totally AU anyways.

My setting's in a world I made up, heck I've created the world and have been fleshing it out since HS so that's like nearly eight years in the making. But as far as anyone can tell, it's an indeterminent place but similar to maybe the UK or the US? XDDDD

The different realms of heaven, and maybe Earth if my characters steer me towards it. We striked out one plot bunny I really liked and already had a pretty solid idea where the plot is going to because it needed research (assassin story; mental illnesses and traumas galore) but now I think I'm stuck doing even more?xD From angel ranks to angel names and, yes, the realms, because it's boring if everything occurs in one place. I probably won't get everything correctly anyway, but oh well. Writer's license.xD

My setting's some years in the future, with the entire world set back by war. The story takes place in the Philippines, which is somewhat like how it was in the colonial era, as there are invaders, technology's regressed, communication with the rest of the world is limited and most cities have been destroyed or abandoned, leaving things in a backwards state of affairs.

I wanted mine to be in the Philippines, but I really didn't have that much knowledge about the places and other details, I decided to put my story in Vancouver. It just hints on it, but Vancouver it is. I plan on writing a story set in the Philippines, though. Maybe when I go back home, someday :D

Philippines. My last year's NaNo was supposed to be in another country, but the details went awfully wrong...when I rewrite it sometime I'm shifting it back here. I want to try London or NY sometime, though.
