I thought it'd be good to have ONE thread for planning and keeping track of events in our area, since the calendar doesn't seem to be working just yet. (Bwa-aa-aaa! The Evil Lieutenant strikes again, stealing the ML's job! *cackles insanely as lightning flashes across the sky*)

So, if you have an idea for a write-in location or time, can't make it to one, or want directions to an event, your post goes here.

Thus far the locations that have been kicked around--at the highly fun Towne Center Varsity get-together last Friday--are the Woodstock Coffeehouse and The Art Station - Big Shanty. Both tried-and-true locations from last year, but we need days and times (especially as I must warn the managements of both if we are to be descending upon them weekly). DISCUSS!

The next post down is the one I'll be keeping updated with dates, times, locations and directions!

____________________

Directions:
The Art Station - Big Shanty
From 575 South / 75 South: Take the highway to Chastain Road (575: Exit 3 / 75 Exit: 272?). Turn right onto Chastain. Go past all the shopping centers. Chastain will turn into McCulloum--don't worry, keep driving. Go past the Cobb County Executive Airport and Old Highway 41. When you come to Cobb Parkway (Highway 41), get in the left-hand right-turn lane. Turn right. At the next intersection, Kennesaw Due West Road, turn left. The Art Station is about half a mile down on the left; just look for the big white house at the entrance to Big Shanty Park and turn into the park, then turn into the driveway behind the house.

From Marietta on 41: Take 41 North. Keep on trucking until you see an intersection with McCulloum to the right and Cobb International Parkway to the left. The next intersection is Kennesaw Due West Road, turn left. The Art Station is about half a mile down on the left; just look for the big white house at the entrance to Big Shanty Park and turn into the park, then turn into the driveway behind the house.

From Acworth on 41: Take 41 South. Keep on trucking until you pass all the shopping centers. You will come to an intersection where, to your immediate right, there is a Shell Station with a teensy weensy drive-thru coffee place in the parking lot (it has a blue roof and is named Brewed Awakenings). This intersection is Kennesaw Due West Road--turn right. The Art Station is about half a mile down on the left; just look for the big white house at the entrance to Big Shanty Park and turn into the park, then turn into the driveway behind the house.

From Barrett Parkway: Take Barrett Parkway to Stilesboro. (If you're coming from the Mall, it's on the right after all the car dealerships and before Burnt Hickory. If you're coming from Dallas Highway, it's on the left immediately after Burnt Hickory.) Turn onto Stilesboro. Enjoy the scenic route through suburbia. Eventually a giant brick Rite Aid (formerly Eckards) will appear to your left. This intersection is Kennesaw Due West Road--turn right. Go past more suburbia and past Kennesaw Mountain High School. The Art Station - Big Shanty is the next major thing on the right; turn into Big Shanty Park, then turn into the driveway behind the house.

Curse you, Safira! I see that your plot to become my Lieutenant was only an evil ploy to usurp my OMG-IT'S-REALLY-HIGHLIGHTER-YELLOW ML T-Shirt that I got in the mail yesterday. Just wait til next Torchwood, see if I share my Captain Jack Sparrow blanket with you! ^_^

As for serious business, the Varsity was awesome. The onion rings were sweeter than life itself and I got to meet a new WriMo, and see an old one! Yay!

So far it looks like Friday is the free day for most of us, at least at night-ish. Don't know how well that jives with the Art Station but I'm game for late night hauntings and coffee if the rest of you are. There's always the Woodstock Coffeehouse and it's Couch of Teenage Hormones. ^_^ And good coffee there too. Mmmmm Coffee.

Also, I was thinking since it looks like we're all adults (so far. I'm sure we'll all start getting childish soon. who wants to help me build a couch cushion fort?) so I was thinking... I have a thing for one of the bars down on the Square, a certain... Irish Pub, and I didn't know who might want to go get a drink. Come on, it'll be fun. Any takers?

And to go with my ML Shirt, the swag arrived! SWAG! I HAS IT!

Ooooh, that sounds like fun! I'm game. Shall we go just for drinking and socializing, or for WRITING and drinking and socializing? I wonder if they'd let us have a drunken write-in? :P We could have word wars with the losers all pitching in to buy the winner a drink, or maybe some other sort of writerly drinking games. I wouldn't want to write that way all the time, but it could be fun to do once.

Wow. Suddenly I feel like I'm the ML who's dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow on the beach when him and Elizabeth are on the island and he's got two bottles of rum and he's like, "Welcome to the Caribbean, luv."

Yeah. Well. Let's see.... If we all go be serious writers, and do some serious writing I don't see why we can't all go get smashed and write words. ^_^

I'm all for a public celebration of NaDruWriNi. Granted, I don't drink and then drive within 8 hours on principle, so as long as there's some kind of sloshed-writer-retrieval system in place, I'm good. Otherwise, I shall play DD. What day do we want to do this? And which pub? :)

Does Friday evenings at the Art Station sound good? We can always adjourn to the Coffeehouse should the need strike. *goes to edit the Events post*

Alright - for some strange demented reason I'm actually going to attempt to get involved this year... Been snooping around for years and just been too darned lazy to actually do anything...

So - I guess if I'm gonna start - now's as good a time as any... I don't typically drink much either - so I can also volunteer to help with the DD services... But - you'll get to know more about me I suppose when I show up to the next event. Thus - my question - any idea on when the next get together will be? Apparently over at the Art Station or some irish pub...

I warn you - I'm new to the whole writing thing... Said I need to do it for over 10 years and just now finally ending the procrastination... Is there a way to turn that into a 4-letter word?

Anyway - so - update on the event? Friday nights actually work perfect for me... I've got a lot of Cobb & Metro Atlanta chamber meets during the week...

*looks at the clock* Eek - night!

Irish pub?! So freaking there, provided I'm not in babysitting mode.

Man, my typing abilities are such crap when sober. I can't imagine how a Guinness or two would affect them.

I'm a parent, so I never ever drink and drive (not even one teensy sip) on principle, as well. But seeing as I have the luxury of owning a husband, I have a built in sloshed-writer-retrieval system. You live in my corner of the world though, so it would be simple enough for us to drop you off on our way home that night, if you like. We can talk about it more at one of the regular write-in meetings.

Ok, here's what I've got so far and if I get it wrong my trusty Lieutenant will correct me (I'm sure!).

Friday Night (THE SECOND) there's a write-in at the Art Station. It starts around six, they'll be coffee, and words, and possibly ghosts. ^_^ After all, the Art Station is haunted! And just in time for Hallow's Eve! Yay!

As for a kick off.... Hrrm. I'm game, I don't know who else is. *tries to think of something open late on Thursdays* I don't get out of work until Nine so I don't know if that puts a crimp in our plans or not, but I usually head up to the Waffle House on Wade Green, only I don't think/know if they have power outlets. Probably not.... I know Steak and Shake's are open all night, but again I'm not sure about the Power Outlet Situation there, and secondly if I go (I used to work there) we're not getting clean food, so I'd like to sort of pre-emptivly veto that one.

Uh. Ideas anyone? You're all welcome to come over to my house. There's coffee and I have a dog and power outlets. ^_^

It's awesome. The only thing they're missing is a pool table. ^_^ I used to have book club meetings there. When I was a minor and should have been allowed in the bar to begin with. And the owner is totally personable, tells great stories about the place.

Psst. Irish pub = Johnnie MacCracken's.

For this exchange of information I have a question. Are non-NaNo, but still writing fiends, welcome to the write-ins?

Red, remember I told you I wasn't participating this year? Well, I lied. I stayed home sick from work today and watched a bunch of History Channel: Ancient Mysteries episodes on my Lappy via Netflix. (Have I mentioned the awesomeness of Netflix recently?)

Anyway, this old story idea that I have been mulling over for a few years finally found some roots and wanted to take off. I finished typing up the prologue when it dawned on me that today is the start of NaNoWriMo, so here I am. I am not 100% positive (or even 75% positive for that matter) that I will reach 50k words within the alloted time, but what the hell. So here I am!

Hello!

I live in south Canton. This is my first year doing NaNo and my first novel writing experience at all. I will never make 50,000 words in a month, but the motivation is nice to have :)

I have already missed the first write-in :( I do not own a laptop or a wireless card. But, i might enjoy coming to a write-in at some point and I'll just drag along my notebook and several pens and pencils :)

How many peole are there in our area? Am I from close enough by to bne allowed at the write-ins?

Thanks everyone :)

----------

ACK! I've never done this before!

The first write-in on Friday drew, what, 8 people? It was a record, and while we were scrambling to find enough tables and outlets, we managed to find everyone a spot. There were lots of laughs, plenty of candy, many funny images and lots of talk about sci-fi TV shows on BBC. And people actually got some writing done, whether it was on laptop or in a notebook. The more the merrier; there looked to be a few more chairs we could bring in if you'd like to make the next one. :-)

Seriously, last Friday really was a record. And I got Tony to rearrange the tables in the conference room, so we can fit in a few more people with less scrambling this week! So come one, come all, and join the fun!

Wait, this Friday is the 9th, isn't it? Is that the official NaDruWriNi, and if so are we meeting somewhere more conducive to alcohol consumption? (Sadly, drinking on County property is frowned upon.)

Okay, kids, we're on for the Art Station tonight!

Some minor complications: Our illustrious ML just got called into work, so she won't be here until 9 or 10. (Who wants to join me in calling and heckling her boss?) And I forgot my Lucky Bag o' Goodies at home.

Soooooo, once I clock out I'm going to scurry on over to the Target on Barrett to grab a surge protector and some tasties so that we'll be well-provisioned. If you get to the Art Station before I get back, just hang tight! (There'll be a note on the door.)

EDIT: My butt is back here and we are provisioned. Good god it's dark outside...

POST-EDIT: WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU GUYS?! Seriously, kids, Fridays means Fridays. Plural. I got my more than my wordcount done, such is the power of the Art Station; don't you want to feel the power?

Sorry about skipping out on Friday, but the week's been hectic. Actually, the next couple will be hectic, as I'll have a vacation to Chicago later this week and then Thanksgiving. Will we still have a write-in on the Friday after Thanksgiving? I'd get there late, but I'd get there just the same.

Also, I may get myself out of the house on the weekend after Thanksgiving and spend a good chunk of the day writing at a coffee shop or somewhere similar. If anyone wants to meet up at the Woodstock Coffee Shop on Towne Lake Parkway or the Borders in Kennesaw, we could do that. Any interest there?

Alright everyone,

We're having another write in tomorrow night at the Art Station. From six to ten, and if I don't see you there I'm going to use my nifty psi-helmet I got with my ML shirt to find your houses and move the Write In there.

*bwhahahahahahaa*

Alright, so this week all the cool kids came to the Write-In! Huzzah! There was much talking and laughing and sharing of the ridiculous contents of each other's harddrives...what else?...oh, yeah, WRITING! There was a lot of that too! *winkwink*

Sadly, next Friday is the day after Turkey Day and the Art Station is closed. (I'll be in Milledgeville anyway, trying to weild my laptop in front of my extended family without ridicule...god help me if my characters finally decide to hook up while I'm there.) So, Saturday? Sunday? Marietta? Woodstock? Where and when do you kids want to get your weekly dose of fellow WriMos? ^_^

The Friday after that is the 30th--I think that means we pretty much HAVE to have a last-minute-cramming session!

And, early though it may be to be thinking about this, but where do we want to have the TGIO party? The pub (since we haven't done that yet)? The Art Station? Someone's garage?

Next Saturday or Sunday is good for me. I always like the Woodstock Coffee House, but we could always do a Starbucks or a bookstore if need be. Basically, anyplace with outlets and caffiene. And I'm thinking a TGIO party is pretty much going to require alohol, so a pub would be a great idea.

I was hoping to join up with the crazy Woodstock area Wrimos this weekend, since I'll be home for Thanksgiving Break. I live in Forsyth (Suwanee area, McGinnis Ferry), but I know the Roswell/Woodstock area really well because I used to live there/my ex lives there, so whatever you guys decide, I'll probably pop in!

The weekend rapidly approaches, so let's try to see when we can meet up. I'll suggest the Woodstock Coffeehouse (http://woodstockcoffeehouse.com/) on Town Lake Parkway. It's right off 575 for convenience, the coffee is good, chairs are reasonably comfortable. Maybe Saturday night, 6PM? What does anyone else think?

Hope you guys had fun at the Woodstock Coffee House. I was trapped in Milledgeville, sullen and unwriterly because I was surrounded by a metric ton of gossipy extended family members. *scurries back to playing catch-up*

If you kids want to have a last-minute frenzied writing session on Friday the 30th (we might even be able to swing Thursday) at the Art Station, that's cool--just lemme know. (The desk computers even have internet, should validation uploads be necessary. ) ^_^

Will Chinese food be ordered again? I can bring my appetite if that's an option. Leftover Thanksgiving turkey has gotten a bit tiresome.
