Okay folks, it's time to start getting an idea of when we'd like to get together for our write-ins. For those new to us and have no idea what a write-in is, here's the rough breakdown. Basically we all get together at a coffee shop or some similar location. We chat, we lament, some of us even write our novels. Writers and chatterboxes are encouraged to come. We have Word Wars and other similar sprints, so bring a notepad and pen/pencil/whathaveyou. We usually have about 4 write-ins during the month, but you folks are welcome to have other write-ins of your own if one of the original four clashes with your schedule. Unfortunately there's no way to plan them so that they work out for everyone, so I highly encourage you guys to do so and let me know! I'll throw them up on the calendar for you, and even try to stop by myself if I'm able (as would Gale, I'm sure ^_^)
So, let's get planning!

Maybe to get the conversation started, we could do a straw vote about what people prefer.
Welestra and I were thinking that we'd like to have the same day of the week and the same location. That way we're not always having to figure out what works.
So, here are some time possibilities:
6 - 8 pm - Wednesday evening
2 - 4 pm - Saturday afternoon
6 - 8 pm - Sunday evening
Nobody is a morning person, are they?
We seem to have a lot of students, but, getting home by 8:30 or so isn't so bad, is it?
Anyway, let us know your preferences, and we'll try to arrange something that works for the maximum number of people.

So, at the Kick-Off, we decided to hold the first write in on Friday, November 2, 7 - 9 p.m..
This was in spite of FWG's concern than maybe we woulddn't deserve a night off so soon because we would only have been writing for a day or two at that point. *grins* So, hands on keyboards at 12:01 a.m. on November 1, people!
Location: We will either meet at the main library at McMaster University, or else at the Westdale Public Library. Welestra and Viorica are going to try to book a public library meeting room; otherwise we'll be at the university.

I was thinking about the library location last night and aren't most libraries closed on Fridays?
*I'm talking about the public library, not McMaster's*
I know that the Central library is opened, but the other branches are either closed on Friday's or have limited opening hours.
EDIT!!!!
All Hamilton public libraries are closed by 6 p.m. on Fridays! So we're either going to have to meet at McMaster or find another spot like Infusion for our write-in.

Thanks for doing that bit of research, Lyonnaise. We said that our second choice was the library at Mac, so I think that's what we should fall back on.
Main library at Mac. Shall we meet just inside the turnstiles?

The turnstiles are those metal bars that you have to push your hip against to go into the library. All libraries have them, I think. Your own library at Westdale High School does, I know.
Anyway, they are INSIDE the library.
Now, location of the library. It's not really near the Hospital (which is on Main St.). To get to the library you go to the Stirling St. entrance of the university. And then it's right there, slightly to the right. Very large building.
Can someone with a better spatial sense than I have please post more specific directions for getting to the library, please?

When you come in the Sterling Street entrance, there are two lanes, both of which will get you into the parking lot. The library is the large building with large windows directly in front of you (if you were to keep driving straight, it would be on your right). Turn right (but don't loop around!) to go to the parking lot and you'll see there is space to walk between the library and the semi-circular Student Center next door. There is an entrance into the library just down there and to the left (you'll see an overhang). The turnstiles will be right in front of you when you walk in, and there's plenty of seats when you go through them.
It might be better to come on a weekend, otherwise you might have to pay for parking (you'd also have better odds getting spots to park). Hope that's clear enough! Hope I might be able to make it this time, but my friend invited me to Urinetown in Hamilton, so I'll try to stop in to introduce myself before then! I'll try not to be too strange!

I am assuming the library you're referring to is Mills Library. I'll be there; however, rumors are floating around that the bus drivers may strike. What a nightmare!
BTW: I survived my first nano day...like a walk in the park (yeah, right!) Take a look at my excerpt.

Yeah, by all means do that guys! I know it's hard to come in from another town (I used to work in Burlington), and I'm sure we have a few out-of-towners. Please don't be afraid of planning a write-in closer to you guys if that's what works better for you. Though please, try and come out to the special events if you can - we'd still like to meet ya!

Hi all!
Is someone going to post a sign at Mills (the name of the library) for the late-comers, stragglers?
I'm coming in from North York after work and, depending on traffic, may be late.
There used to be a notice board to the left of the first floor main elevators, where students could leave notes for other students. If someone could post what floor we're on, that would be great.
I will have my phone with me...
Or I could just skip this write-in :((

Good thought, Lyonnaise! I will undertake to do this. There will be a notice. It will involve large friendly red letters.
Noooooooo! Don't skip! I heard a rumour about Carasin baking a typewriter cake! (No actual typewriters were harmed in the baking of this cake) ----------

Just wanted to say thank you very much to Gale for the preparation and guidance that provided us some direction and productivity tonight and also to Elizabeth for the most excellent World's Ugliest Cake. It was an iconic masterpiece that I shall never fail to remember whenever I think of nanowrimo evermore! Plus it's fun pretending to be a Chow dog with my black tongue.

Last night was fun, wasn't it? Although all of us crammed into that smallish room with six laptops turned on and generating heat was a tad warm. I got 302 words written, more than I wrote at any write-in last year.
Next write-in, as we agreed, will be on Saturday, November 10, 1-3 p.m., at La Luna Restaurant, on the northeast corner of King and Queen streets in Hamilton.
Rhonda/Girlwithapearl agreed to give them notice that we're coming.

I would have a better chance of making these things if I actually checked this website every once in a while. Or maybe a certain baker would bother to keep her father in the loop.
Actually, I'm currently getting over the plague so you wouldn't have wanted me there. Add to that I was on emergency standby to head in to work because I'm a HazMat tech and we had a 'situation'.....
I didn't get to start writing until 11:00 pm on the 1st, so my word count is a little behind what I would like. Still, things are going smoothly, the characters are all cooperating and not doing anything stupid yet. If all goes well, I will be ahead of the game and not need to worry about the 10th......

Is everyone aware that La Luna serves Middle Eastern food?
Personally, I love it (except for things with egg plant in them: ick), but I know it is not everyone's favourite. If you do NOT like Middle Eastern food, now is the time to say so, so that we can find a different place for Saturday's write in.
