This is the place where people from different regions can get together and offer one another 'gentle encouragement'. This thread is intended to be light-hearted and fun, and according to the people who did it last year some jibes and jovial name calling is to be expected, but participants should still follow the main site rules about behaviour
on the boards (and the use of smileys to emphasise the jovial nature of insults is actively encouraged!)

Hi y'all,

Are we really that scary? Come on Essexians, step up to the plate and show us what you're made of. You've got nothing to lose but your white stilettos! :-)

Seriously, please do consider joining in with this, it's amazing how much of a difference it makes to your word count. The incentive to stay at your computer typing for another fifteen minutes, simply in order to beat someone from Brighton* has to be experienced to be believed. And if it's not going so well, you have until the 20th to drop out with no reprecussions whatsoever!

*Or other region of your choice.

The regions competing so far are:

Brighton
Cambridge
Essex
Darlington
Ireland::Elsewhere
London
Manchester
Oxfordshire
Scotland
York & Leeds

We're still waiting to hear from a few others.

Good luck everyone. :-)

Hello, this is Danny P. the England:Manchester ML.

Seeing as though it's now less than 12 hours until NaNo begins, I just thought I'd apologize for how badly my region is going to beat Essex.

Now I hate to be the deliverer of bad news, but it's true. Manchester is simply too packed with unwritten words held under immense pressure that will just not stop flooding out over the next 30 days...

Ohhhh my lordy! Mancunians apologising in advance for beating us down here in Essex? Tish, tosh!

What makes the fact we're going to roll all over the Mancunians is the fact that my mother is a Scouser, Long Live Essex, Long Live Liverpool, and Booooooooo to Manchester!

I'm not going to post a word count for a few days, just so I can blow manchester out of the water when I do!

(sudden thought... why!!?! Why am I making stupidly arrogant challenges?! stop meee!)

Hi guys,

The leader board has been updated and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-280789

The sign-ups are now officially closed.

You have until 8pm on the 20th November to drop out without affecting your region's word count. However, dropping out will affect your standing in the 'highest proportion of participants winning' prize, so think carefully before you do.

If you do need to drop out please PM either your own ML or me directly before the deadline.

MLs, you have 48 hrs after this deadline in order to inform me of someone dropping out, otherwise they will have to stay in until the end.

Good luck for the rest of the month! :-)

Hiya,

Sorry for the late post again (for some reason the people I work for expect me to actually do relevant things at work once in a while, which is a bit much, but still). :-)

Hi again,

The leader board has been updated with the figures for the 18th and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-336842

Also, I finally managed to get my act together for long enough to get redfox the info she needed to set up the automatic scoreboard and that can be found here:

http://www.annelyle.com/write/scoreboard.php

This scoreboard is updated using the Nanowrimo WordCount API which is only updated once a day so it may be using slightly different numbers than the ones I use, but it is updated every day rather than every other day like my manual one, so is likely to be more accurate overall.

I'll keep up with the manual scores as well, but if you want to know where you stand on the inbetween days (and how many winners your region has already, please see the automatic one).

Finally, a brief reminder that the deadline to drop out of the Word War is 8pm on the 20th November. The MLs have an extra bit of time to let me know that someone has dropped out, but consider 8pm on the 20th the absolute latest time to tell your ML (or me directly) that you wish to leave. After the 20th everyone left in will be in for the remainder of the competition.

Thanks,

Lottie

Hi,

Well, we're in the final stretch now guys. Last chance to change up a gear and get those words written!

Expect daily updates between now and Thursday.

Friday's (ie the final one) will be calculated Saturday morning and sent out to the MLs for verification before it's posted, so it'll take a few days to appear.

In the meantime, tonight's figures are here:

Hiya,

The penultimate leader board is at:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-397464

The final results will be posted once 7 or more of the regions MLs agree with the results. This may take a few days to acheive so please keep checking back to find out whether Oxfordshire have managed to retain their title for a third year running or if they've been pipped at the post! :-)
