So far, we don't have a calendar feature this year on the Nano website, and we don't know if we're actually going to get one. I've looked around and the calendars on Yahoo are actually very good, and easy to use, so I have set up a Yahoo Group for us, "TC Wrimos." There is a message board there, but we won't use that (all our messages can stay here on this regional forum). I like that ANYONE in our region can set up their own write-in and list it on the yahoo calendar.
You will have to set up a yahoo account and "join" the group to use the calendar-- but it's free and painless.
I hope that everyone will use the calendar and check it often. It's a known fact that Wrimos who go to write-ins are more likely to reach 50,000 words-- plus, it's a lot more fun!
Find the TCWrimos Yahoo group here (and let me know if you have any trouble with it):
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TCWrimos/
Try to be as detailed as possible about your write-ins, and be sure to list yourself as a contact person.
Happy Writing,
Theresa

I set up write-ins for every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at Nokomis Beach Coffee in South Minneapolis ... and the process was painless! The Yahoo calendar is a great idea!

I live in Eagan so not sure I could make those. :) Is there any one in my area who would want to meet closer to me? My hubby has the car during the day but should have my liscense by the day before thanksgiving.

(This was a post Kyteroo wrote in another thread, and I thought it might be helpful for others to read what she wrote and my response.)
She wrote: "I need to get this off my chest, so take it with history and a grain of salt:
Obviously, no one has the decency to actually post that they can't come after all! As usual, no one came.
Yes, 3 yrs. of no shows is hard to defeat. Should we go far 4? Why not! The last 3 yrs it was impossible to get anyone to actually show up when they said they could. Rarely would one post why they couldn't come. I hold chairs for ghost. Am I tired of this? Yes, I can stay home and type by myself! Write-Ins are for encouraging one another. Write-Ins I start are the most frustrating things to attend! Its always me, myself and I. Always! Never anyone else. IF I would have gone to NW meet-up, I would have had 3 people to join me at least. I didn't go. Why? 2 People said they could come here. I do understand things happen. People forget. Things come up. I wish at least someone could post a quick 'sorry cant make it'. Punctuation is not necessary. However, if a car breaks down, I don't expect anything same day. I just can't believe 2 cars would die at the same time. I'll just assume it was forgotten as usual."
My response:
Kyteroo-- I'm so sorry you're having such a difficult time with your write-ins. I can imagine how frustrating that is (in fact, it's happened to me in previous years, too). It's no fun to sit there alone when you expect others to join you.
Here are my suggestions to lessen your frustration:
--Try going to other people's write-ins, at least a few. That way you'll for sure get to connect with other Wrimos, and won't have the stress of holding tables and wondering if anyone will show.
--If you want to set up another write-in yourself, do it with a friend. That way at least you know your friend will be there! Sherri (shildeinmn) and I do this.
--Also, if you want to set up your own write-in, send a post to Minnesota: Twin Cities forum just one day before the write-in, and maybe title the thread something like: "Anyone coming to write-in at Anoka Dunn Bros Monday?" If people say they are coming, they are less likely to forget or make other plans if it's only 1 day ahead of time. And if no one responds, you could just cancel the write-in and do something else/go to a different write-in/or write at home.
We want to keep Nanowrimo fun for everyone. And hopefully people will be more careful about showing up if they said they will, or letting someone know if they won't be coming after all.
I'm going to copy this post to the Write-ins calendar thread, so others can read it if it's lost in this topic.

Hi,
I posted a Saturday Morning write in. 7am-9am at the Minnehaha coffee shop. Free Wi-fi. Good coffee.
Yes it's too early - but that fits with the whole insanity-of-this-month theme .

It looks like this is happening already, but if someone sets up a write-in, could they please post it in a new thread here, too? I don't feel like joining a Yahoo! program.

Dogmatica,
You've probably seen the thread about the Thanksgiving weekend write-in at Minnehaha Coffee. If you haven't, check that out. If I get a break tomorrow I'll try to remember to check the yahoo calendar and I send you an email with some of the recuring ones.
