This is where the official sign ups begin! If you want to take part, please post in this thread - but only once! You can drop out until the 20th November without penalising the region, so if you're not sure about signing up, do it anyway, you can always decide to drop out later in the month!
If you have any questions about the word war, look in the rules thread to see if its answered there, or PM me, or leave a message in the banter thread.
I will be taking part this year, I'm aiming high!

You can add me too. Short of being carried off by a beret wearing pterodactyl, I should be good for 50,000 words.
Although stranger things have happened...
However, this might encourage me to actually finish the novel, rather than just writing the wordage.

*hopes I stopped that before it posted* ...I may have trouble updating my count, because we're having trouble with our connection. Constantly. I can't predict it or anything, it just happens, and obviously when that's going on, I can't contact a mod. At all. So...

Oct 31, 2007 - 13 37
On the one hand I'd really like to participate, but, erm... are you looking for people who are actually going to write *insane amounts*? See, I'm not aiming for anything high, just (tentatively) hoping to reach 60k+ -- though I'd be relieved with anything over 50k, heh. Also, my results from last year aren't terribly encouraging, since I left more than half of it til the last four days or something stupid like that, and ended up only winning by... what, eleven words? I don't want to let you down, or anything.
However, considering I can always withdraw if I seem to be failing miserably (or indeed failing at all), I'd really like to join in, if that's okay. I don't really mind, but I'd quite like the extra incentive-type-thing.
Thanks,
~Effel

I might as well sign up too, if only for Effel's extra motivation point. I DO have a much more well-prepared story this year, but I can always drop out again if I don't make as much progress as I'm happy with.
I'm in (and with 50 minutes to spare :D)

Stalled, busy at work (being a new head of department makes me reviled and hated and thus all new policies are to be fought tooth-and-nail) and now I can't get going again. It means my word count is unlikely to change at all this month. So... as predicted, I hereby pull out of the running so I don't hold York and Leeds back.

Just so everyone knows - the sign up has now closed.
You can drop out by the 20th November without affecting the region, but after that dropping out will be bad for us! So stay in, and write lots!

I suspect I've probably been disqualified already for not updating my wordcount, but I'm dropping out. Writing nothing for two weeks is no way to win a word war...
