This is the place for inter-regional lighthearted banter, and where people can ask any questions they might have about the word war!

Remember you still have to stick to the overall nano posting rules here, though jibes and regional insults are to be expected - just don't make it personal.

Also, you can offer support and encouragment to fellow word war-ers too!

*deposits attack badger in Leeds & York to see what will happen to it this year*

good to see ye lot are backing the carnage again! (although please note that no real badgers were harmed in the making of NaNos in Oxfordshire last year. Giant slugs... well, that was another [squelchy] matter...)

THe attack badger will, of course, fair badly against the rabid plot bunnies and wolves of Fenric (did I just say that out loud?) we have here. Sorry Mister Badger, but your days are numbered.

Soon we shall come for you in your Oxfordishness with our own phalanx of... uh... whippets. Or something.

The attack badger has clearly forgotten the pasting it got last year from the crack team of mutant ninja piranha kittens that I never go anywhere without. Off you go, boys...

Ah, lovely.

But I like badgers... and hedgehogs... and hares... and mangabeys... and oh, almost everything you can think of. Not too keen on hissing cockroaches though, noisy little blighters.

Ah well, I knew there was something like a crack team of mutant ninja piranha kittens or the like somewhere around here that would do that. Just interesting to see how long the badger made it this time :-D

By the by, did we mention the attack badger has an acute case of fleas? Yep, the very same ones that are now leaping from the hat onto your head... (an attack inspired by the Black Plague - it's definitely NaNo-tastic!)

I'm sorry, you think I'm wearing a hat made of *raw* badger skin? It's been properly cured and deloused, thank you very much. No fleas on me...

Hello, this is Danny P. the England:Manchester ML.

Seeing as though it's now less than 12 hours until NaNo begins, I just thought I'd apologize for how badly my region is going to beat you all. =)

Yes, you may have stolen our old ML, but that isn't going to make us give up so easily! however, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, we'll promise to wave goodbye as we overtake you and head for 1st place!

(you wanna try creative writing? try sending a unique taunt to every region participating... not as easy as it sounds!)

Oh Danny!
Indeed, I stole away, but was not stolen. I must now defend my new region! We will win, because we are the most prolific writers in the world ever.
Even more prolific than John Grisham.

How does one upload documents to get an official word count this year? I can't seem to find the place to do it and it seems strange that you can't easily access the novel sections of the profile. I might go so far as to say that it's not as user friendly as I remember it being...

I could easily be wrong, Consensus, but I have a feeling the site word count thing is temporarily disabled (presumably the little word-counting-robot-minions or whatever they are are still in hibernation) -- I seem to remember reading somewhere that it would be back soon.

Agreed on all counts. Think Effeltower is on the right lines though. Hope they get things sorted soon.

I remember it clearly -- that official counter has been disabled for the time being to help with site load. :) They're looking at bringing it back up soon, when the site load has decreased a little.

(I must say, it's positively zippy this morning. Two second loading time!)

Go Oxford! Down with York & Leeds!

But also to help you out I believe the official word counter can't even be used until the 20th (as in previous years) when they start to validate entries proper. Before then it's just a case of using the simple updater.

Or I've got that wrong and you can use the official counter but it won't properly validate before the 20th should you pass 50K. It's some clever combination of the two.

Hmmm...

So far so good. Time I went away and put in a really productive day, to keep us up the list. If the thought of having a horde of mad Scots close behind me with kilts flapping and claymores flailing isn't enough inspiration, then I don't know what is.

Obviously, I need to get my skates on a little more, too. Although... I don't like the thought of trying to put out more than 4k a day, somehow. Maybe if I just shift it up to 5k a day -- that's just 500 more words per novel per day... >>

Hi guys,

The leader board has been updated and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-280789

The sign-ups are now officially closed.

You have until 8pm on the 20th November to drop out without affecting your region's word count. However, dropping out will affect your standing in the 'highest proportion of participants winning' prize, so think carefully before you do.

If you do need to drop out please PM either your own ML or me directly before the deadline.

MLs, you have 48 hrs after this deadline in order to inform me of someone dropping out, otherwise they will have to stay in until the end.

Good luck for the rest of the month! :-)
