Last year we had a nice 'getting to know you' thread that I myself found quite interesting because although we're all in the same city (or thereabouts), there's a lot of diversity in our group. As no one else has started it yet, here's a post where you can introduce yourself to your fellow London NaNo-ers and share interests/details about yourself and learn more about others. After all, NaNo is not only a personal writing challenge, but a great way to connect with other people and make new friends that you might not have met otherwise :) So take it away, folks ... (I'll add my own later - too sleepy atm)

Hi!
I am doing NaNoWriMo for the first time this year while I am also at the Faculty of Education at Western, so we shall see how far I get towards 50,000 words, LOL.
I am from Windsor originally, I just moved to London at the beginning of September for school, and I am really enjoying the city, it is quite a pleasant change :) I did my undergrad in Windsor in Creative Writing, but my focus was on poetry/short & microfiction.
The novel I am going to write has been partially planned out for a few months, and is set in the future, approx. 1000-5000 years from now, when a man from the beginning of our century wakes up after being asleep for that whole time (he hasn't aged) and finds himself help up as a deity/major political figure based on his college 3rd year English paper. I don't want to get into too many more details, but I am going to post a lot of clips starting next week :)
I am really looking forward to reading about what everyone else is writing!

Welcome :) I also came here from Windsor almost a year and a half ago and did my undergrad there in Classical Civilizations. Mind you, I finished that up about 3 years ago and it took a couple to finally free myself from the wretchedness that is Windsor (I only liked the university, not a fan of the city). Your novel idea sounds like it'll be fun to write :)

I also did a bit of digging this morning and found the archives of last year's thread on this subject so you can check it out here: http://2006.nanowrimo.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=12234&for...
Or here's a re-post of how this started off last time (thanks to shadia_malfoy) and it'll give you a bit of help with introductions. If you're lazy and posted last year, you can always pop by the link and copy what you had last time, but I like to think that at least a few things change in a year's time (notably your age) so giving it a quick update might be fun :)
1) Age
2) First name
3) Sex (you can't put yes please unless you're a swinger from the 60s)
4) Tell three things about yourself. Two of them must be true, one must be a blatant lie.
5) What do you do on the internet besides the obvious?
6) How else do you spend your free time?
7) Put a sentence about your family/pets/home life here.
8) Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
9) Quickly. Label yourself with a highschool stereotype. (Yes, you are now a soup can.)
10) What is one thing you think everyone should know about you?

1.) 23
2.) Lora
3.) How about "no, thanks"? Anyway, I'se female, for what it's worth.
4.) Bad grammar or punctuation makes me physically ill. I desperately want the majority of society to accept me. I am messy and OCD at once, so I have trouble keeping clean while at the same time freaking out because it's messy.
5.) Wait, what's ... "the obvious"? If it has anything to do with scantily-clad people and questionable acts, I'll just say a.) ew, naked and b.) ew, spyware. But I frequent livejournal most of all, as that's where my fiction journal (and those of my friends) is located.
6.) I don't have any. I have 5 jobs, am finishing up my final year of an Honors English double-major degree, and am applying to go to Japan for the next year. Not to mention I write on the off-NaNo season as well, so there's a lot of novel planning/RPing/etc with my collaborator.
7.) My family is strange, nerdy, and rather dysfunctional in one of those "we pretend nothing's wrong while baking cookies and trying to be the perfect family from the 50s" ways; most of my pets were left at my family farm (2 dogs, 2 cats, a turtle, multiple fish, a pony, 8 horses, another dog, 13 kittens and many barn cats, a rabbit, etc.) - I myself have two adorable kittens who are currently staying with a friend but will be moving in permanently with me on Nov. 1.
8.) Introvert who attempts extroversion in situations like NaNo. I'm not very good at it, though.
9.) Nerd/geek/loner/weird kid/fag-hag/the lesbian (I wasn't, but that's what they said). Basically I was the one who didn't care what other people thought (and yes, I really didn't; I had friends who said that but didn't mean it, so I know the difference), and so who wasn't ostracized (because you have to care for that to work) so much as mostly ignored (which worked for me).
10.) I think I said this last year, but it bears repeating -- characters I write for any length of time tend to stick around and become actual entities in my head, with whom I can carry on conversation and (if both parties feel like it) allow control of my body. No, it's not schizophrenia. No, it's not MPD (or DID, as it's supposed to be referred to now). I don't know what it is, but it's possibly the best writing tool that's ever dropped into my lap, so I'm not complaining. (Plus, having friends with the same thing makes for oodles of fun when we both let someone else snatch and let the two interact.) It will probably come up during the month, so you might as well know now.

1) 24
2) George. Unless you want our real first names, in which case my answer would be Jen.
3) Ja, alstjeblieft! (female)
4) I have an obsession with foreign languages, I'm addicted to Tim Horton's Iced Caps, and I've held the Olympic and world records in solo synchronized swimming for 42 years.
5) I'm usually around livejournal, wordpress, twitter, youtube, wikipedia, and other various websites. I read stuff, write stuff and watch stuff. It's just a time-waster, really.
6) I look after my sister who is 17 and developmentally delayed (so she has the mentality of a 4 or 5 year old). I also write, learn other languages (or at least attempt to), look for a proper job, and plot to take over the world using only a sonic screwdriver which I have yet to obtain.
7) I live at home with my mum and my sister, who are both going to drive me into insanity soon. I have a dog who hates me because I make him wear a lavender-coloured sweater now that it's getting cold, but he loves me because I buy him Tim bits. I also have a rat (who's getting old, poor thing) and a turtle (also getting old), plus 6 cats (two are old, one's middle-aged, two are young adults and one's a tween).
8) An extrovert cleverly disguised as an introvert.
9) What kind of soup can are we talking here? Campbell's? Heinz? No Name brand? I like soup and I was a loner.
10) I talk to myself a lot, though I try not to do it while I'm out of the house. I also get moody if things aren't going the way I want to in anything I write. My characters always tend to do things their way and it usually ends up disastrous.

2. Susan .......not Sue or Susie...shudder
3. Still a girly girly
4. I have travelled extensively from the Mayan pyramids to the Blue grotto at Capri and got lost in Pompeii; I am totally deb free, I live without any credit cards and I hold a degree in Anthropology (Archaeology) from U T.
5.Addicted to "Free Cell", ( I am on a winning streak of 207 games), my blog (myfanwys-journal@blogspot.com)
6. I am a rabid knitter and a voracious reader.
7. Married twice, now widowed, 4 children and 4 grand daughters. Living in "sin" ( ewww from my daughters) and I am owned by the worlds stupidest Shih Tzu, "Chloe"
8. Extrovert hiding a massive inferiority complex.
9. definitely geeky, worked in the library, hated gym, ate lunch at the geeky table BUT I steady dated the school STAR athlete .....you just know that "killed" the other girls...
10. Age is a state of mind. I am a twenty ..OK.. thirty year old locked in the body of a 60 year old. The alternative to getting older is death so get "over it" and do what you want.

1) 26 (still 20 in my mind)
2) Carrie
3) Female
4) I listen to standards music from the 40's and 50's. I have a penpal who used to be my teacher. I collect bottle caps and use them as cookie-cutters.
5) The obvious (posting on the NaNo site!), I write and read at Livejournal, chat with faraway friends, read TV recaps on TWOP, download Librivox audiobooks, check in on my now-defunct MUD, send/receive email.
6) Chores because I live alone and I'm a sometimes-slobby cleanfreak, reading/writing, watching British TV, hanging out with friends (yay), this year preparing for NaNo meetings. Occasionally get dragged to movies by my brother or friends and, even more occasionally, go see a movie I'm actually interested in by myself. I also have started doing volunteer work with the London Public Library and I attend a monthly discussion group at Central.
7) I live alone with my cat companion of 11 years, who is my favourite creature on earth. My family calls a couple times a week and I see my brother here in the city now and then.
8) Disgruntled introvert

- Campbells... no, wait... um.. indifferent nerd? ugh, i dunno.
10) What is one thing you think everyone should know about you?

- free time?
- my fav shows: weeds, dexter, californication, heroes, daily show / colbert report, south park
- spending intimate moments with my favourite people
7) Put a sentence about your family/pets/home life here.
- I share a house between downtown and old east with a very close friend, our 2 cats (one mine, one his), and about 6 different computer systems.
8) Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
- I suppose I'm mostly an introvert, but I'm not shy in a non-confident sort of way. I'm just more of a listener than a talker, and prefer spending my time either alone or with a few close friends.
9) Quickly. Label yourself with a highschool stereotype. (Yes, you are now a soup can.)
- stoner.
10) What is one thing you think everyone should know about you?
- It takes a while to get to know me, and sometimes people think I'm being a snob. I'm not. I'm just not especially great with the conversation skills with new people. Once I'm comfortable around you, I'm much more willing to open up, so if you're interested in what I might have to stay, just stick around for a little while. It will come out eventually. :)

I am such a terrible person. I completely forgot tomorrow was November and didn't actually board the clue bus until reading that Welcome email from Chris Baty just now. D'oh!
I mean, I knew November traditionally follows October, I just didn't take in the implications of said date until just then.
I had a cruddy day at work, I'll blame it on that.
1) 22 (23 in 30 days)
2) Anja (Ah-knee-ah)
3) Girl
4) I am about one month into Basic Training for the Infantry Reserve. I work in a tortilla factory, twelve hours a day, four days a week. I was Alexander the Great's personal assistant, a camel named Sahara Stu, and a bad Elvis impersonator in past lives.
5) Am I that obvious? Nuts, I need to be more sneaky. I Google everything that comes to mind, read fanfiction, house hunt, watch television, shop, etc.
6) What I have of it, I spend doing nothing. It's really great, you should try it sometime. Sometimes I write, hang out with friends, ponder the meaning of life, ponder the junk heap that has become my bedroom, ponder whether the meaning of life is metaphore cleverly disguised as my messy room... Hmmm
7) I still live at home, but hope to move out in the spring. My younger sisters are both at Fanshawe and live at home with my parents as well. My baby brother is in his last year of highschool. We have a farm north of London and I think we're fairly normal, but maybe I'm too close to the situation.
8) My introvert has been MIA for a few months now. My extrovert has happily stepped in to take over.
9) The smart one... Oddly managed while not actually being much smarter than the average teenager. Being quiet and only speaking up when you're absolutely certain you're right kinda helps. The introvert was still handling things back then. I don't know if I should bother putting up flyers for his safe return...
10) I am very, very busy this November, but I am still going to try. I am completely stunned and slightly horrified that suddenly everyone and their brother wants to plan things for Thursday evenings. Wonderful, necessary, involved things that I can't work into my schedule no matter how many times I do the math (or search eBay for a gently used time machine).
On that note, someone out there please tell me I'm not alone in my Thursday dilemma. Fridays or Saturdays or even Sundays would be great, but I can in no way shape or form manage to attend a Thursday Nano meeting.
Wishing you all luck in this writing endeavour; hopefully something turns up on eBay and I'll actually get to meet some of the new faces. And if not, I'll be around on the forums, just drop me a line.

6) How else do you spend your free time?
All my time is free time. It's not like I pay for it, and I'm always free to do something else with my time. 10) What is one thing you think everyone should know about you?
I've never written a complete novel before. I can barely string a coherent sentence together, but I get ideas in my head that need to get out somehow. NaNoWriMo is a good excuse to do so. Plus, maybe writing can fill the void left when the corner of Dundas and Wellington collapsed. That makes no sense whatsoever, but I figured I'd throw in a reference that only Londoners would understand.

Hello all,
I'm late getting started which is completely true to my nature. My name is Denise, I'm 46 years old and I live in a rural community not far from London. I have a son and a daughter who are old enough to worry about themselves now and a partner that has a full time job in trying to keep me sane. We have a cat "Fat Girl" that we delight in giving a voice so she can complain about the food and other living conditions here. I'm definitely an extrovert and would probably be best defined as being far too busy for my own good. In high school I was definitely one of the 'cool kids', did all of the parties and was on all of the committees. Most people consider my leisure activities more like work because I write and spend unknown hours researching on the 'net. My video production company is much the same. Work that seems disguised as fun. I'm a mystery buff and look forward to getting to 50,000 words by the end of the month.

Age - The hardest question first - 42
First name - Jodi
Sex - I can't say guess, I've met men and women with my name, so to cut the suspense- I'm female.
Tell three things about yourself. Two of them must be true, one must be a blatant lie. - I've written a book. I am an amazing cook. I have a husband who cooks.
What do you do on the internet besides the obvious - read blogs, do research, write, submit articles and learn and try new things (Wikipedia, LiveJournal, RSS feeds etc)
How else do you spend your free time - free time is elusive - it isn't free for me, it time I take hostage and refuse to let go
Put a sentence about your family/pets/home life here- I have a teen daughter, close to teen son, a house full of hormones, a husband I like to escape to Tim Horton's with, a porch full of ill-mannered barn cats, a dog that lies at my feet when I'm writing and a chinchilla named Lucky because he was not made into a fur coat.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Depends on the situation - I can be an extrovert when needed and am an introvert when relaxed.
Quickly. Label yourself with a highschool stereotype. (Yes, you are now a soup can.) - The smart quiet one with a streak of stubborness when least expected.
What is one thing you think everyone should know about you? I love everything about writing and am having a great time finding my fiction voice.

Welcome, Judy :) Not much activity around here outside of NaNo itself, but I do check in occasionally and I'm sure a few others do as well.
