Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please:

This following contest is scheduled for 30 rounds, and shall determine the Championship of the West!

On the plains and the patch, we have the challenger, weighing in at 1 million residents and represented by 161 affiliated writers. They've got the imagination that fuels the nation, and they're the home of the mighty Wrimosaurs! Ladies and gentlemen, it's the Wild Rose Province.... ALBERRRRRTA!

And in the west coast, the contender boasts a population of 2 million people, 434 of those writing on behalf of their region this month. They're the Supernatural Scribes, the November Reign, the Office of Lotus and Light... let's hear it for BRRRRRITISH COLUMBIA!

The rules are simple -- when the bell rings, start writing! The winner will be chosen through two statistics: the highest percentage of writers which surpass 50,000 words, and the largest average wordcount per writer. The respective liaisons will provide weekly updates, but the show's not over until the calendar says December.

All right, then: Shake hands, go over to the BC::Elsewhere forum to say hello, and let's have a good clean rivalry here.

After that... get ready to write!

I don't know if this is going to be a fair fight and all, what with us having The Lone Dragon as our secret weapon. :-)

There will be many hankies needed in the Rockies Saturday morning on December 1st, I'm thinking.

Hello Wrimosaurs!

Your friendly neighbourhood BC::Elsewhere ML here to say a greeting or two for the rivalry to come - we British Columbians are looking forward to a friendly rivalry for the aforementioned stats. I look forward to working with Aquadeo and with all of you as November approaches, comes, and goes.

It's stiff competition in Alberta, the Wild Rose Province; we folks out in BC better make sure we're in tip-top shape to take all of you folks on.

I'm going to start a thread in the BC::Elsewhere forums dedicated to the Write-Off in the Rockies so pop by, introduce yourselves, and say hello to the competition.

Rockin' Out in BC,
Elenya

All right, everyone, the initial results are coming in, and take a look at this!

http://naperwrimo.org/nanostats/

According to this, we're in the lead for average word count, 17053 to 13681! Woo!

But wait! According to the brand-new NaNoWriMo widgets...

What's the distinction? Well, there are a lot of ways to join a region. You can affiliate with a region, you can make it your home region, you can just post in the forums, or you can do any combination of the three. Not only that, you can affiliate with multiple regions! That can make it really confusing for stats counters (and MLs).

To help get the clearest statistics for Alberta::Elsewhere, I'd like you all to make sure you've selected Alberta::Elsewhere as your home region. Go to "My NaNoWriMo", then click on the tab labelled "Home Region", and select us there. Your co-operation will go a long way towards making sure we're the undisputed champion of the Rocky Mountain Elsewheres!

Oh, and you can also help by updating your word count on the website daily, and most importantly... by writing lots of words!

You can do it, Wrimosaurs!

That's it; my goal is now 60,000 minimum. Just to spite B.C. =P

Oh, the tension is killing me!

% of novels complete

Alberta: 13/51 = 25.49%
B.C.: 35/126 = 27.78%
(Edmonton: 56/200 = 28.00%)
(Calgary: 26/134 = 19.40%)
(Vancouver: 38/130 = 29.23%)
(Saskatchewan: stats unavailable)

average word count per writer

Alberta: 26,419
B.C.: 27,706
(Edmonton: 32, 148)
(Calgary: 22,751)
(Vancouver: 23,196)
(Saskatchewan: 34,641)

It's neck and neck, folks! We won't be able to tell who wins until the midnight hour!

We just need two people to verify a winning novel, and we're in the lead... but they're going to have some last-minute winners, too! We can do it, though!

And just look at those other standings... we're doing our region proud, people! Well done!

Above all else, it's nice to read of so many people who took the plunge. Wow, well done to the Canuckistanians who partook. I can hardly wait to read the final tally.
