In addition, there are outlets (now closer to the ground!) for plugging in laptops, as well as wireless internet. We also will have our extension cord to help spread the power.

No Literary meet tonight 11-19

I'm so sorry to cancel last minute. It's been a hellish week here. And now I have family down that want to see us. Usually I would blow them off for noveling LOL but since Mom's death so recently I'm kind of obligated. I'm really hate doing this dang it. Maybe we can set another day early next week. Next Thursday is Turkey Day! :)

This is the new Barnes & Noble in the Market Street at Heath Brook shopping center. It is gorgeous, with a huge selection of books, DVDs, CDs, and some other odds and ends. The café has lots of tasty treats, as well as free Wi-Fi. Electrical outlets are a little bit scarce, but that’s nothing a power strip won’t help.

My first NaNoWriMo

Hi I'm Laura and I'm thrilled to find so many locals joining this challenge! I've been saying I'll write a book 'someday' for a decade. I sent this link to my hubby and said I'll do it if you will. My jaw dropped when he said OKAY! He already has a couple thousand words more than I have. ;-)

I got a little down about how much I was producing in a couple hours a day. I've kicked myself in the butt and am back in the game reminding myself this is about 'writing practice' and it will increase as I practice—so don't give up!

Knowing you're all out there committed to getting it on the screen or paper helps a bunch!

Write-In questions

I was thinking about coming out to the Write-In tomorrow night but, being that this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, I'm uncertain about a few things.
Is there anything I need to bring other than my laptop?
Is it a pretty relaxed, casual atmosphere?

Embarq/Internet Problems

Okay gang, just posting really quick while I have a chance. Since the 5th, I've been on a trip sans internet, but I'm going to try to make up as much as can while the internet back in good ol' Ocala holds up. Our service provider is Embarq, and unfortunately they've had a lot of problems lately and internet has been incredibly weak and spotty this past week or so Susan's had a heck of a time trying to get on. I apologize profusely for any trouble this might have caused you all and shall work my hardest to keep open communication up with you all. It seems to be steadier now, albeit still patchy, but I'm hoping it'll be totally fixed within another day or two. Sorry again, thanks for reading, and happy writing!

Impromptu write-in

Since I'm off from work today, I have pretty much the entire day to spend to write. I was going to head over to Crispers and hang out there for the next 3-4 hours or so to do some writing while I wait to go to class around 6PM today (I go to Rasmussen, so it's close by). LIterary Knights Write Ins

Yay I finally got on to post! NaNo wouldn't load for me part of last night and today so *whew.... It's workin now :)

Okay Tonight 10- 29 is the Literary Knights Kick off meet at Denny's on SR 40 across from Silver Springs at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and get reved up for Nov.1st.

Hi all

Yup another year has zoomed by and it's that time again LOL. For those new to us this year I'm Elise this is my 4th year with NaNo and I'm hoping it's going to be another good one. I've published my previous NaNo's and am livin the dream of the writers life.... Okay the writer's life isn't always dreamy, kind of poor actually, but hey I'm living it :)

Here's an update on my past year for all :)

I have gone to and graduated from the American College of Journalism. I was just hired by the Orlando Examiner to be a destination writer (fancy name for travel writer lol) for central Florida. I have been asked to write a creative writing course for homeschoolers.

this has been a rough year with illness in my house. My mama has had a rough one since last Nov. She had a 2nd heart attach and phenomia in June but is doing really well now.

Tristan is a tween! LOL and he may write a bit this year if I can twist his wittle arm just right :) I think I might add it to our curriculum hmmm where there is a mommy writer there is a way :)

Looking forward to Kicking off a new NaNo year.

Thought I would start a thread on our fears... what keeps us from writing? from placing our words, and in that our voice on paper? Why do we shy away? Should we? What do we fear?

I will start.

I actually fear success. And in that having a voice. After years of being told I haven't one, I finally have a chance to step out and speak, or type, or scribble... you get the gist...

I fear success, and having a voice because I am afraid; to say or type, or write what my mind, or muse, or whatever gives us these thoughts, gives me to say. For fear of reprisal.

Now, also, the second part.... How will we over come our fears?

I will abandon the thought that I am not allowed to speak, or voice, or write whatever I may for fear of reprisal... instead, I will give myself freedom to voice... yell, shout, and scream into the page whatever I may have...

what are your fears?

How will you conquer them?

And... will you stand with me, join me, and write?

I just bought the bestest toy. Well toy for writers LOL. Write or Die has a desktop version you can purchase. It's awesome and worth more than the 10 bucks they ask for.

It has all the great things on the online version with some perks. you have a stats section to keep track of your time vs. words. there is a word war feature. you can war with friends or log in and challenge a random person. Favorite Genre?

Hey all!

So let us get into a discussion of the many literacy genres. What is your favorite genre to read and why? What about your favorite to write? And, of course, how about your least favorite for both situation?

Personally, I love to read a good mystery/thriller. My favorite book is The Blue Nowhere, which has twists and turns on nearly every page. I love it because it keeps you on your seat. Also, if a writer is really good, just when you think you’ve figured things out, the truth is revealed and it is nothing like what you were expecting! Actually, suspenseful novels are my favorite to write, as well, for the same reasons I love to read them. On the other hand, I cannot say I’m a huge fan of romance books. Unless written extremely well, they just don’t have the same “kick” that I look for in both reading and writing.

NaNo Tropes

Time for some fun, games, and time-wasting! And nothing combines those three quite like TV Tropes! For those unfamiliar with the site, TV Tropes is an encyclopedia of all sorts of useful and random information that show up fiction and even real life. The Useful Notes is a particular favourite of mine, especially if you want a quick list of random tidbits on life in England or the differences in Southern accents in the USA.

It can be a lot of fun to find out that your novel takes place in an Inn Of No Return and then check out a list of stories that all have creepy inns of their own. Be warned that it’s easy to loose many an hour here, but if those hours help you relax and learn a little more about your novel, all the better, right?

More amenities. What about the library? I know you were going to check into it? It would be *great* if we could do it at the library.
