Free - take home some books from my stores - for Durham

I operate GNU Books. We have 3 stores in Durham. Ajax, Oshawa, and Bowmanville.

During October and November, you can come to the stores, bring your NaNoWriMo userid, and you can take home three books to use as reference or reading material to help you prepare, or give you a break during the exercise.

Like the library, return them by the end of the year, and we are happy.

I would ask, that you take books which we have more than two copies, or get the store person to approve.

You can find the stores on maps.google.ca just type in Gnu Books in the google maps search field. Hours of operation are there as well as phone numbers.

Durham To Kick Some Serious Butt, Yes?

Hey, everyone!

I thought I'd kickstart the regional posts. I'm sure you're all super excited about NaNo this year, whether you've done it before or not. If you haven't, I bet there are lots of nice WriMos in our region ready to take you under their wings and give you some pointers.

I might as well introduce myself while I'm here. My name is Ali, and this is my third year doing NaNo. The first year, I didn't succeed, and last year, I sort of won, but technically lost. Meaning, I wrote 50k, but it was split between a novel I'd already started and a new one. This year, I'm going for it for good, and this month, I'm working on some planning to get ready for November. I'm not one to plan everything out too much, but I want to have a clear enough idea of what I'm working towards.

I was thinking it would be awesome if we set a wordcount goal for our region. What do you guys think? Can we make 500k? One million? One million would take 20 of us crossing that finish line, and that's if no one else contributed a word. I think we can make a million. What do you say? Let's go for it!

Go ahead, introduce yourselves and give your opinions on what our wordcount goal should be!

Today is another day

Under.the.lights, that 7000 words was on another project. I have 3 on the go at the moment, one is collabrative.

I have the outline done for NaNoWriMo. My outline is about 6500 words, character layouts, chapters and plot. Working on the sub-plots at the moment. The itch is there to start. The mosquito has bit, and it is hard to resist scratching. Come on Nov. 1.

This is a fun exercise. You never know what will come from it.

Yesterday, I was down to 1700 words. Oh dear. I try to stay around 5,000 a day, but some days are better than others.
