[Sticky] Donations

Greetings Wrimos from beyond the rainbow,

I am going to mention this here and I am only going to mention it once and only because the ML's are kinda asked to mention this: Donations to the site.

As the vets will know, NaNoWriMo is run but the non-profit "The Office of Letters and Light" but hosting a site like this costs money which they pay for from donations made from members.

Now I know the ZAR is in a horrid state right now and donating dollars is hard to do but there are other options that have been made available.

Good Search - This Yahoo-powered search engine donates a penny to the charity of your choice for every search you do. This wont earn you
a halo or loot but it will still help and is a great way for the research junkies to give back.

Get Sponsored - Marathon runners do it. Walk-a-thonners do it. And now Wrimos can do it too! You can get friends and family to sponsor your novel-writing month through Gifttool.com. Sponsorees receive donor thank-you gifts from the Office of Letters and Light at their total, combined sponsorship level, and your sponsors get the satisfaction of knowing they've helped bring free creative writing programs to more than 1000 classrooms, 400 communities, and 75 libraries worldwide.

For those who can afford to give donations, there is the donation page

PLEASE NOTE:
No one is obligated to donate anything. There is no entry fee. This is all completely optional but donating does help keep this running year after year.
Surviving week 2.

How's everyone doing? This is a gentle reminder that it is said that the second week is the hardest!! We have made it through these first few days and we can get through this next week. Remember it's only words. They won't kill us. I had no story line when I started and only one character and a dog. I have followed my character to new and exciting places and have met interesting new characters and traveled fascinating terrain these past few days. I can look forward to next week knowing that my character will take me deeper into unmarked territory. Here's to more interesting words and creative sentences.
Novel Writing Help

Well, I thought we should start a support group. Ask questions, get ispiration etc. For example, I procrastinate horribly so we can come here and ask each other how we're getting along and remind people to keep writing. cheerios!
[Archive] Regional Email 1 - Kicking Off across the rainbow nation!

Welcome dear Wrimo's to another year of the <strike>madness</strike> EPIC FUN!

What is in this email:
1. Kick Off Events around the country
2. The forums are active
3. Location, Location Location!
4. How to get off this mailing list

1. Kick Off Events around the Country
This year we have Kick-Off events in 4 cities: Cape Town, Grahamstown, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
The PE event happened this last weekend and by the looks of the photos on Facebook was heaps of fun.
The other 3 events are as follows:
Sat Oct 31, 2009
15:00 - 05:00 Grahamstown Kick Off Party
Where: Cow Moon Theory
Sun Nov 1, 2009
12:30 - 15:30 Cape Town - Kick Off Party
Where: Mugg & Bean, VnA Waterfront
14:00 - 17:00 Johannesburg Kick-Off
Where: Mugg & Bean Melville, 76, 4th Avenue, Melville

To keep track of future events via Google Calendar, click here add this calendar.

2. The forums are Active!
Many of you have already returned or stumbled upon the forums where a great amount of chatter is currently happening. This is the perfect place to keep up to date on events happening in your area, hook up with other local Wrimos and ask all those questions you have ... or just poke a bit of fun at each other. It will also be where the Word Wars will take place and are often a great source of inspiration.

Forum Link: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/259

3. Location, Location Location!
While we all know that where you place your novel is important, it is also important to update your profile with your location so the hard-working ML's can find you. The basic format that works best for you to show up in searches is: City, Province, South Africa.

4. How to get off this mailing list
This is for those who are not participating this year. You have received this email because you at some stage signed up to participate in NaNoWriMo in the last few years and affiliated to the Africa::South Africa region. To stop receiving these emails, do the following:
1. To opt out of regional emails from your local Municipal Liaison:
Login to the website, go to your Region Management page, and click "My Membership" to the right of your region's name, and then click "Leave this group."
2. To stop receiving NaNoWriMo mails:
Login to the website, go to My NaNoWriMo and select Edit User Settings. Check the box "No emails from NaNoWriMo headquarters" and save the changes. This will opt out of emails from NaNoWriMo headquarters, including weekly pep talks.
3. Global Unsubscribe:
A little further down on the Edit User Settings page is the global unsubscribe that offers to Shut off all NaNoWriMo emails. Checking this box will remove you from all email notifications, updates and blasts regardless of settings within the rest of this module. No more pep talks, emails from your Municipal Liaison, or site subscription notifications. This may take up to 24 hours.

While we would love to have you with again this year, we understand that Life is what happens when we make other plans!

I leave you now with my favourite quote for NaNoWriMo and how I have approached it year after year, plot in hand or not!

"No thinking - that comes later. You must write your first draft with your heart. You re-write with your head. The first key to writing is... to write, not to think!" - Movie: Finding Forrester

Best of Luck and speedy fingers,
