Folks who were around last year may remember that I was quite concerned that I wouldn't be able to do 50K in a month. I had written a lot previous to Nov 06, but September and October had been pretty dry for me, and so I thought I couldn't do it. I started a thread called "Nagging Gale" in which I invited people to nag me if they didn't see my word-count go up each and every day.

It's time again. This September and October have been about as bad as last year. 2.5K in September. 4K in October. Please, you are ALL invited to nag me again this year. Or, according to your preference, encourage, bother, remind, bug, whatever. Because, it seems, writing is like other activities in my life: I work better in community than not. *grins*

Now that it's October 31, you are all welcome to begin . . . NAGGING GALE!!!

Yes, it's quite a commitment we've all taken on, isn't it? I believe that you can do it, Tristan. Don't get freaked by the 50K; just think of it as 1,667 words a "few" days in a row. Then take it one day at a time, like they say in AA. Have you identified a couple of time periods in your daily routine when you'll be free to sit down and write? Maybe in the morning before school and then again right after school, or right after supper? We'll nag each other through this, yes?

Good idea. I actually did some extra work in school and have essentially 4 straight days with nothing i need to do but write. I'm gonna hack away as much as i can then

If you're asking how I'm doing, pretty amazingly, actually. My word count is 1362, and I'm still writing. That's awesome, when I take into account that, in October I only wrote 4.1K. I'm nearly done the first vignette, and I'm about to sail straight into the next one. Heehee!

Omigod!!!! Less than 400 more words and i got 10K!!!! Holy crap!! I doubted myself, even!! This is brilliant. And, I have my sissy's labtop (though, for soem reason no internet is working so I had to start a new doc on hers and the majority of what I;ve written is on my computer) I'm thrilled. Excited for tomorrow to start that 20K :-O

P.S. Excerpt is up. It's a scene from chapter two that I think shapes the entire story:-D

Yey, Gale and everyone else. You're all doing briliantly.

Yes! We ARE all doing brilliantly!

Especially you, Ziggi. 10?!? Wow! *faints*

I've had 4 separate writing sessions today (counting the one at midnight), and I'm going to do a bit more before I go to bed. It'd be nice to get to the other side of 2K, which I think I can do. It's coming very easily, partly because of the magic of NaNo and partly because I'm happier with this book than with the last one. In the last one Thorne was alone in a foreign country, not speaking the language and with only intermittent memory. Kind of difficult to write. In The Senior Squire (the current WiP), she's back in the City, among her usual people. Full memory and full command of the language. Much more fun!

I've also posted my first excerpt. *gulp*

*rushes off to check Ziggi's excerpt*

40 hours of waking time (well I took 2 2 hour naps) and I'm FINALLY gunna get a decent amout of sleep again.
I *did* it! First day goal of 10K! Totally did it! I would be WAY more excited if I wasn't so tired!! *dances* I'm so psyched for tomorrow and the 20K, when we'll have 2 1/2 days!! Yey!!! Oh, I can't wait. And, of course, Friday writing quota in the morning and at lunchtime (I'm thinking close to 2K)

Ms Gale, I shall read your exerpt tomorrow sometime. I don't think I can wait any longer to fall into bed! It shall be very nice:-D

Yesterday was a bit of a rough day. I UTTERLY trashed my wonky neck at the Write-In on Friday night. I really enjoyed being with all of you, and I actually managed to write 302 words, even in the midst of all the chaos in the "Talkers' Room". But I have GOT to learn to be less animated. And then yesterday, Saturday, I had to go to the funeral of the elderly priest who was my assistant at my last church. I would not have wanted to miss it, but, again, trashed my neck big time.

However, that said, I did manage 800 or so words in the evening. So, at the moment (Sunday morning), I have today's 1667 to write plus yesterday's missing 867. First goal: make today's quota. Then, and only then, if I have anything left in me, I'll push to make up the missing words from Saturday.

Goodness Gale! That must have made everything much more difficult to handle. I'm sure you'll make the quota, but do take care of yourself okay?

I have written 55 words so far today.

*hangs head*

I know exactly what I'm going to write next. MC and foster-father are cleansing the Temple of its guilt/shame/misery aura. You'd think MC would be assisting her foster-father and learning from him, but she's been a wizard longer than he has, so he's actually learning from her.

The beginning of this novel is very fun to write, because I am presenting a series of vignettes that are not linked sequentially to one another. This means that I can write them as they occur to me. Sometime in December, I'll have a look at all of them and figure out what order pleases me, but it certainly won't be from first event to last event. It's quite freeing.

So now I need to stop editing my signature. I need to stop browsing the ML forum. I really, really need to stop playing Tradewinds 2, which is a particularly mindless computer game.

I need to start writing. It's 10:41, and I probably have until midnight before I'm too tired to go on. That should be good for 1 or 2 K. Onward!

I know I shouldn't be complaining, but I could've been done by now :-( But, NO!, I had to get tired of locking myself in Kyrinne's room, away from distractions, and come down to the kitchen where distractions are abundant and I haven't written since noon. Blah, I'm going to go write:-)

G'lucks everyone on their novels!

Oh, Ziggie! Please don't be so hard on yourself. You are making such SPLENDID progress! Even wacko writers like you need some breaks and some human interaction.

OK, 'nuff of that: get back to work, woman! You are SO CLOSE! You are making our average as a region look so very good! We are wiping the floor with Calgary and Delaware, thanks to you and Welestra and GWAP (girlwithapearl). Keep on, m'dear!

I have only written about 500 words today, myself, so I think I had better take my own advice. If I put my nose to the grindstone, I think I can get myself back on schedule today. I've been making gains, writing about 500 more than quota each day for the last 4 days. I'm getting close!

P.S.: Wasn't the write-in at LaLuna fun?
