Here's a thread for everyone writing Low Fantasy.

If you don't know what Low Fantasy is about, there's an explanation at http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_fantasy

I'm writing Low Fantasy with a touch of Romantic Fantasy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_fantasy

Good luck, everyone! Have fun and laugh, writing is supposed to be fun, right?

Can we get that in English, please? I think I can guess the definition of low fantasy, and I probably fit here.

I'm writing low fantasy and am so eager to get started. My novel is much more about racism and prejudice than magic, though I am giving a particular group within the novel a shamanistic way of life and abilities. They are earmarked from birth as being susceptible to being spiritual healers, but that's not really that different from real world shamanism.

Anyone else?

I LOVE Romantic fantasy. My role-playing group uses Blue Rose, the game of romantic fantasy! Hey.... I wonder... (inspiration keeps striking, I wonder if there's a storm outside)

Sorry again.

Cheers! Someone else out there writing the gritty kind of realistic fantasy!

George RR Martin, mentioned by name in the Wiki article, is one of my personal heroes, and set rather lofty standard to try to live up to. But... going to give it a shot. So I have no shining armor, no wizards in velvet robes, and obviously no clear line between good and bad.

Instead, I'm going for characters that get their hands dirty and occasionally bloody, smell of horse and sweat, drink without staying flawlessly sober and make choices based on the gut, knee-jerk reaction that the situation demands. The choices are hard, especially when there's not a "right" or "good" one.

They just do the best they can, and pick up the pieces afterwards.
