I found myself thinking, what a fantastic way to meet new people! This Malaysian chapter of NaNoWriMo brightens the light of hope in my currently sublime social life. (That is to say, it's evaporated into thin air)

So this thread is to find out where you guys are, and see if we can't get some lines of communication going in *gasp* real life. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought to myself 'I wish I could meet people like me, who enjoy creative expression, like reading things, and won't run in fear at the mention of the word sci-fi.'

...I _am_ not the only one, right?

I am... very, very sad that I'm not in Malaysia right now. If I were in Malaysia, however, I'd be in the Ampang area as well. The part of Ampang that is near Bandar Baru Ampang. (Selangor)

Curse you! You got to it first! I already had something like this half-typed out! *shakefist*

Actually, I'd meant to post that I've already crossed into November 1st territory, and wanted to shout a big "It's almost time!!!" to the rest of you. ...though you probably didn't need to be reminded of the time. Still. Half an hour to midnight!

:D I agree though, sigma83, it's great to meet people who share your interests, considering how much harder it is to find common interest in real life. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm located where most of you are... home is Kuching, in Sarawak, for me. Specifically, 3 1/2 mile, if anyone lives in Kuching.

But I pass through KL when I come home from QLD, sometimes. :)

I'm in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya. This is my 6th year nano-ing.

I'm planning to do most of my public nano-ing at the IKEA cafe which serves local breakfast between 9 and 11 a.m., with free coffee before 10 a.m. Here's what I see from my "nano" table:

That's the AlphaSmart Neo that I will be nano-ing with.

BTW, I kicked off NaNoWriMo 2007 with 707 words - that's one-third the daily word count, and that's how I do my nano-ing, in a few sessions every day. Hope to keep it up until I pass the 50,000-word count!

Hey chet... this is the dana-enabled lady, aka sister of scribbles. I've been meaning to ask... or drop by the alphasmart forums, but never did... there's a bit of a problem with the dana. It doesn't seem to have much battery life, even when I've charged it for more than enough hours (whether by computer or plug in), it just cuts out without warning. And then it goes back to completely reformatted status. That, and once or twice it's done a crash on me that required me to restart it and I lost files. Is that... normal? It doesn't Seem normal and it's actually a bit of a pain. I've not been using it much because of that. And when I have... it's mostly as an external keyboard because I'm too afraid to use it for anything else.

It's not too urgent an issue though, as I've now got Robin (my Dell notebook).

Oh, by the way, I'm not doing Nano this year (I really really want to... but I can't, I don't think I can swing it and keep hold of my sanity and I need to this year). Scribs is though, so I'll be rooting for her throughout the month :)

2nd year here - and feel a little of the sophomore slump coming on (holding on! holding on!).

I live somewhere past Sg. Buloh (but it counts as Shah Alam, go figure) but my major hangouts are still back in my old neighbourhood of DJ/PJ etc. so that's where you find me - 1Utama, Curve, Ikano .. I worship thee each weekend.

Sigma83! You're off to a running start there! 10k in already.

chet-a-box -- great NaNo table you have set up there. Would kill for a portable writing tool like that! And the Ikea cafe ... yum! Definitely helps with the writing process there.

So no meet ups this year? Is NaNo not such a big thing in Malaysia any more?

Just a shoutout to all you writers in Malaysia. This is my 2nd time doing Nanowrimo. Failed miserably the first time, 7000 words was all i managed eventhough i was bumming around at home. Im wondering how im going to do it this year though since Im working and all that and im usually dead tired by the time i get home. Hehs.

I do have a problem though. I cant seem to post my excerpt or do the word count thingy. Ive gone to the Edit Profile and the Author Info thingy and there doesnt seem to be anywhere i can post the wordcount/excerpt.

Help?

This is the third year for me.

It's a real shame that there would be no meet-up this year. It'd be fun to hang out with like-minded people.

I live at Damansara Indah. If there's anyone who wants to meet up, just drop me a note.

adrenalyn, it should be right at the bottom of the "Edit Profile ---> Author Info" page, in the "Novel Info" section. Under the place where you edit your novel name and genre, there should be this new little bit for word count and excerpt.

I've enjoyed reading some of y'all's excerpts ;) and those of you who have 4 or more digit figures in your word count... uh, you scare me. But I like you anyway.

Hey guys! I am from Penang but currently reside in PJ because I am a UM student. I like writing but I think joining NaNo this year is a bit of a mistake on my part as my exams have just started! Man, talk about suicide! Well, either one has to suffer and I'm so deeply regretful that NaNo has to be the one that suffers! LOL! I haven't written anything but anyway, I'm just here for the ride! ;) I've done this before 2 years ago, I skipped last year, and it was a fun experience! Good luck everyone!

WoooooooHOOOOOOO!!!!! Let's start writing! And let's hope that wonderful feeling, the feeling that wants you to keep writing, will forever keep going throughout the whole of November!

Hello~! I'm from PJ and this is my first time joining NaNoWriMo... I was introduced to it last year by my friend but regretfully, I couldn't join it because it had ended by the time I checked it out. But somehow, I think I'm cursed to not join NaNoWriMo since next week, I'll be sitting for my SPM. *sigh* Well, I'll try to do my best since my friends often say that I'm a fast writer. I'm hoping to finish 15000 words in two days and finish it up 3 days before it ends.

Neways... Good luck to all of you!!!!

The SPM is overrated.

What's the best it's gonna get you? Foundation.

..I'd better stop before I get threatening e-mail from your parents. =P

That's true!! You don't even go into university with it... I wish we had entrance exams instead of SPM. Sure, it'll be a pain in the ass (I think) but it wouldn't be as pointless as SPM. Chasing the As only for a chance to get a scholarship.

XD No worries... My parents know not of this website. I even signed up secretly.

You think so? Hm. *puzzled* Is there a good alternative to SPM then? I believe all the equivalents still only get you to A Levels, STPM, or foundation or a diploma.

There's no other alternative to SPM unless you're in a private school...

There is no alternative to SPM unless you're in an international school, or take the UEC, to be technical.

Or you could of course do what I'm currently advising my brother to do, which is get it over with, go apply to a good uni and tough that out for four years.

I studied in a very kiasu Chinese primary school. Chasing the A's has been hammered into me. :\
