I did this last year and I'm gonna do it again this year. I'm gonna put several posts up that are "food for thought" posts :) Just write what works for you :)

HEre's the first one.

What's your writing soundtrack? ie... what do you listen to when you write?

For me, predominantly with this book I'm listening to A New Journey by Celtic woman. It has the right feel for the Blademaster and track 14 (The Voice) is the theme song for the series. But it's not all I lsten to when I write.

For example, when I'm writing battle scenes, I usually throw in either Spread eagle or Meat Loaf. For romantic scenes I throw in some Barry Manilow...

What works for you?

Definitely some Breaking Benjamin and a little bit of AFI for the main character. And some eerie .hack/sign "Aura" for the villian.

Which reminds me. I'm looking for some kind of sexy/creepy music. Kind of like Garbage's "crush", and preferably female. Any suggestions?

For me, it's the Chill Out Lounge internet radio station. Sometimes I randomize my MP3 collection, but then I end up skipping past songs that aren't conducive to writing -- I prefer instrumentals or soft vocals that don't get in the way of my thought processes.

I'm changing it up between DJ Shadow, Handsome Boy Modelling School and Soundgarden. I might have to bust out the Portishead and/or Placebo in a second, it's getting dark in here.

Alot of Final Fantasy soundtrack stuff...the lack of lyrics helps greatly..if thre is singing..it's in Japanese. I'm not fluent enough to make sense ot it..so I can't bloody well get an urge to sing along.

I listen to a lot of world music. I have a customized playlist called writing on my Ipod with stuff from Angelique Kidjo, Harv( a Swedish fiddle band), Barefoot Natives(Hawaiian Pop), Clannad (Gaelic), etc, about 400 songs. I kind of cover the globe LOL. I also have some soundtracks in there, like Riverdance, Robin Hood(New BBC series), and Pirates. It helps me stay in the Celtic-y mood when my hero starts swinging swords with the bad guys.

I'm writing a Robin Hood type novel so any Clannad and Celtic Women helps put in the right mind frame
