A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...
Er, I mean! So this year, as suggested by spleen and supported by Lady Vivamus and myself, we're having a wordcount war with Boulder! Not total wordcount, of course, since they've got just under 300 people fewer in their region than we do, but average wordcount. I'll be posting the daily totals for both regions in this thread every evening so we can all see how we're doing and egg each other on. But keep an eye out for any Boulder region spies! *Shifty eyes*
Just remember to keep it civil, everyone, and let's show them how truly awesome all of us Mile High writers can be!

All rigth, gang! The first day of NaNo is nearly over, so here are the very first word counts for the two warring regions!
Denver
Total Wordcount: 20,878 words
Average Wordcount: 25.5 words
Boulder
Total Wordcount: 13,675 words
Average Wordcount: 26.6 words
Well, looks like we have some catching up to do! We may have written 7K more than Boulder has, but they've got 302 fewer people than we do, so they're actually writing more. Come on, guys! I know a few of us have broken 3K and of course we've got our 7K-erwho probably accounts for the entire difference between our regions all by themselves, but we can so do better! It's early yet...let's show them what we're made of!

Just posted my word count, sorry to let you guys down, only 1100 words, but I was blown out of the water to have made that count on my very first try! I was so excited when that tally came up I had to check it twice!!!
I think Boulde'rs experience will be like the Rockies, first to score but then surpassed, never to catch up again!

I have yet to figure how to get my word count up on the site.
Not that I did a lot yesterday, and have not even started to write today (been busy advertising something I just did on Associated Content), but I figure if I can get it up, it will help (I hope).

All right everyone! Updating the war stats a little bit early today so I can get to the Perkins meet-up on time, but here they are!
Denver
Total Wordcount: 260, 307 words
Average Wordcount: 315 words
Boulder:
Total Wordcount: 93,844 words
Average Wordcount: 181.2 words
It's possible that there is a site glitch, but looking around at the totals of us posting here on the boards actively, it looks like a lot of us are pretty close to 5K is not over, so it's entirely possible that these numbers are accurate. In which case, go Denver! Wow! We're writing double the words of the Boulderites now! Let's keep it up! Go team go, rah rah rah! *Insert other pep rally type talk here...yeah, I definitely skipped the pep rallies at my school whenever I could...*

Well, i'm finally caught up with yesterday and halfway into today (Sunday) and it's 3:10 am, thanks to the time change. I went to a friends house thinking I would get more writing done there and that she understood the process. She talked and read to me the ENTIRE time and finally told me i could come back friday and get some real writing done. I told her she didn't understand, i had to get 2,000 done EVERYDAY. She felt bad and then i felt bad. So, i'm back to writing in the middle of the night with my candle and tea and lights off so i can't see my chaotic apartment. It generally works, but you know how writing in the middle of the night messes with your sleep, so i may be tired all of november. LOL
off to bed now. I'll finish today, later today. i hope.

*Tragic sigh* So, some of you may have noticed the little bitty site outage yesterday (and by little bitty, I mean more or less all day) and the blurb explaining it on the front page of the site. So basically what this means is that the official totals for hte war are on hold for now until they fix the glitch with the progress bars so we can all see how the regions are doing. But to make up for it...
I am going to spy. *Insert breathless "ooooo" and "ahhhs" from the crowd here*
Yep, sneaking over into "enemy territory" to see how well they seem to be doing. Gotta keep the information network going, after all!
*Sneaks away all sneaky like*
EDIT: Lieutenant-Sergeant Major Sabrina reporting.... or...something... Ahem! Currently, going by people posting in the introductions threads both here and in Boulder (as those are the longest and have the most users posting), Boulder currently has 6 writers between 5K and 10K and one write over 10K, with most of the rest either having nothing or less than 5K. Here in Denver, we had 16 users over 5K and 4 over 10K, plus considerably fewer users at 0 words or fewer than 1K in comparison...I would say the majority of Boulder users seem to be at around 2-3K while here the majority seem to have 3-4K. That means Boulder had 0.1% of their writers over 10K and 1.2% over 5K, while we have 0.5% at over 10K and 2% over 5K.
All this leads me to conclude one of two things; that we are still in the lead more or less, or that they just don't hop on the website quite as obsessively as we do ^_^.;; Private-Sergeant General Sabrina out?

Yeah....well, it won't be as impressive in a few days. I probably won't get any writing done Wednesday-Friday because of my recital. Hence why I jumped so far ahead now!

Mmmm, probably not ^_^.;; Just because I have my recital this week, so I'm probably not going to get any writing done until Friday or so after tonight.

Well, a check of the Boulder forums shows that, while we still don't know what the average regional workdcounts are, we've got multiple people over 15K now and at least one of us over 20K while they have none. So...keep up the good work, guys?

NaNo Stats are working again, so as of this morning -
Boulder
Total wordcount: 559,785
Ave wordcount: 1,040
Denver:
Total wordcount: 1,085,896
Ave. wordcount: 1,279
112,253 / 50,000
Nov 6, 2007 - 19 34
All right everyone! Stats are indeed working again, but it appears that they are only updating the regional wordcounts after midnight, so...yeah. The stats HAVE changed slightly due to new members in both regions, but not by much, so...here's the (slightly altered) states, and I'll be back tomorrow evening to post the new ones there:
Denver
Total Wordcount: 1,085, 896 words
Average Wordcount: 1,276 words
Boulder
Total Wordcount: 559,785 words
Average Wordcount: 1,032 words
We're still ahead, but they're catching up, guys! Just because those of us that are active are writing leagues more than their group is doesn't entirely make up for those who aren't active. We just have to keep going!
7,158 / 50,000
Nov 6, 2007 - 23 21
Haha, I sound so hypocritical compared to my first post when I have to write 5,000 or so words in the next 24 hours to stay on track, but I WILL make it up!! This week isn't a very good one in terms of me actually having time, but we'll see how things go.
112,253 / 50,000
Nov 7, 2007 - 17 14
Daily update time! Yeah, seems they only update the regional stats once every 24 hours, le sigh. But here are things as they stand today, just shy of one full week into NaNo!
Denver
Total Wordcount: 1,321,577 words
Average Wordcount: 1, 547.5 words
Boulder
Total Wordcount: 667,032 words
Average Wordcount: 1,224 words
Hmm...we appear to have pulled a little bit farther ahead, though they're still only about 300 words behind us. On the plus side, none of the active forum people in the Boulder region have passed 20K that I can see and we have at least two people who have and a couple who are dangerously, dangerously close. And at least one who is 50% finished. So we can totally keep this up. Go, team, go? And stuff?

*Yawn* Early update today, fellow soldiers in NaNoism, due to choir starting in half an hour followed by a required concert followed by my final dress rehearsal, and....yeah. Ugh.
Denver
Total Wordcount: 1,471,648 words
Average Wordcount: 1,717.2 words
Boulder
Total Wordcount: 793,493 words
Average Wordcount: 1,453.3 words
Meep! They're gaining on us again! (Only by 50 words, true, but yesterday we were more than 300 ahead and now it's less!) Keep the lead, Denver! Sis-boom-bah!

Sorry, been working doubles all week and barely had time to write a to-do list, much less NaNo...Except today, when I had almost 3 1/2 beautiful hours in between shifts--over 2k and past the one-third mark, baby! Still not as far as I'd like, but the good news is the next two days are single-shifters, and Sunday I have the night free and clear. BEG FOR MERCY, BOULDER!!!! (you won't get it--ha-HA!)
Okay, it's late, and I'm getting a leetle punchy. I think it's time I called it a night...
