A little sneaky snooping reveals that Bellingham has 80,321 words credited to their their regional tally, while Spokane is almost 7,300 words behind with only 73,054 collective words. It's time to get busy writing!!

Sure, they've got 40 more people affiliated with their region, but we have no way of knowing how many of their affiliates are actually homed in Bellingham -- the regional tally only tracks those authors "homed" in any particular region, and how many of those are actually participating this year.

If you haven't checked lately -- please make sure your home region is set for Spokane, so we can benefit from your wordcount. Right now, Spokane has only 157 "home region" authors, out of the 211 who are affiliated. But, out of that 157, almost 70 are legacy usernames, who have not yet checked in on the website or posted any word count for 2007. That leaves us with around 90 active home region authors.

If you're on the Spokane Region list and have not designated a home region, check your NaNoMail -- If I haven't already, I'll be sending you a gentle reminder soon to choose your home region. Also, the last time the Author search function was working I compiled a a short list of about 10 authors whose profiles reveal they live in the Spokane area, but are not affiliated with Spokane, and have no home region designated. Please take a moment to check to make sure you have a home region designated.

[shameless plug] Tonight will be the perfect opportunity to bump your word count -- join us at our Head-Start All-Night Write In from 10:00 pm to 6:00 at La Quinta Inn on N. Sullivan (near Spokane Industrial Park). You'll find directions on our Spokane Events Map:

Now here's a worthy opponent - Alaska has written 151,416 words so far, almost double Spokane's word count. Of course they are also almost double our size, but that won't stop us!!

Support coming from my part tomorrow.

I had gum graft surgery today and still drugged up...check that, tomorrow or Sunday.

I have substantial story lines, plot content, and character introduction scenes not yet written but very fleshed out in mind and much dictated and waiting to be transcribed - hope about 10,000 words worth.

Craswling back to the machine,

Tom

Getting anything done with a 2 month old that won't let me put him down is an even bigger challenge than I anticipated! At least Grace took regular naps the first time I did this when she was 7 mos. old.

Just wait till Monday :D I'll be kicking out words like crazy. Nothing like being locked up in an empty room with nothing but a laptop for distraction. And no internet connection.

I see Dana's already posted the widget showing our progress in the two challenges we've taken on this year, but since the three regions are somewhat different in size, I thought you'd also like to see the details of how many home-region authors are in each region, and their per-author average wordcount.

As you can see, while Bellingham has 31 more affiliates than Spokane, we actually have 8 more home-region authors. So we're slightly behind them in overall wordcount, but our per-author wordcount is woefully lacking.

Alaska has 25 more people writing than we do, so it's to be expected that they would be ahead of us in overall wordcount so far, but if we get busy, we should be able to catch up to their average per-author count.

I'm devoting my day to helping increase Spokane's standing. How 'bout the rest of you?

Samantha

Don't forget to post, because while it is great you are writing, it only counts if you post it! See ya tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel...er , um.. I mean...good luck everyone!!
