I haven't written today's NaNo . This is my fifth contest and I know I'll finish regardless of when I start.

My NaNo's evolve from theme, not unlike what T. Robbins wrote today. Some novels I wrote before NaNo came from research, brainstorming, outlines of various types, and discussions--all habits learned variously as a corporate yuppie in Silicon NW, tech writer, web designer, and natural analyzer.

What I love about NaNo is breaking all the rules I've learned in my various professions, 2-years writing study at Univ. Washington. Even playing the violin requires tuning, rosin, posing, physical balance and mathematical concentration.

But ah NaNo. Break out the laptop and start typing. That's different too--before NaNo I wrote fiction by hand first, computer second.

I LOVE NANO BECAUSE IT SETS ME FREE.

Well, day one is fast coming to a close and...I'm only a little over 1k in. What can I say? I'm a super slow writer and I'm constitutionally unable to completely turn off that internal editor. And I've got a thousand words today that I didn't have before!

I've set myself a goal of 2k words a day which I have to meet no matter what. Having a bunch of friends posting their NaNo works on my blog's friendslist is sort of depressing, as I instantly love their writing so much more than my own. But this is a natural state for me.

Anyway! 2k words a day means I will finish with room to spare and be able to take a couple of days off in the middle to do a story revision for my short story class.

Getting into the rhythm is tricky but I'll work on that these next few days. I managed to get nearly 1K yesterday and am at 1902 so far this morning. Gotta head off to work and will pcik up where I left off upon my return tonight.

I'm taking advantage of minute details to pack on the words this year.

First day total 1298, although I'm telling myself 1300. To be honest, it's my best start so far.

Topped off November 1st with 4309 words. Wow! I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that tonight, though, as I have to run errands. But it was nice to know it's possible. :)

Ya know... I was feeling pretty proud of myself. I had about four or five pages of hand-written storyline at the end of the first day. On college rule note paper at that. Then I typed it up and it was only about 650 words! Gah! That's what I get for burying my nose in "Wicked" instead of writing. Oh, well. I'm at over 1300, so I feel somewhat better. Now, I'm off to hand-write some more.

Archimedea, a handwritten page averages 250 words. Never fear! When you submit your manuscript in proper format (double-spaced, one-inch margins) each typed page is 250 words. A novel has 250-350 words per page. So each page you had write is a page of the finished product.

I have a few hundred words so far. I've been thinking over the story and character the last couple of days; already had the theme which is my driving force this year.

Today I'll write in sprints and plan to get up to 6k or more by tomorrow's write in.

Hey it's all an excuse to drink coffee.

Have fun.

That's a cool bit of trivia to know. I assume that that excludes my scribbles and crossings-out on some pages. ;-)
