Well some of us are anyway ;-)

Its great to see so many have managed to start their Nano on time. Ive had so much work to do that Im not likely to start showing any wordcounts until after Monday :-( (I work as a copywriter and have a backlog of articles that are all needed *now*)

But I have my plot this year, and a cunning plan....

How is everyone else getting on?

Christine

Hi Christine!

I had a horribly productive day due to not being able to relax - too busy thinking about the novel and I wanted to get a head start as I don't have much time today. Luckily as I work in education and it's half term i had yesterday off to get a running start. Wrote most of the morning, an hour in the afternoon and an hour or so in the evening and ended up on 3100 words - but I'll get less than a thousand today if I'm lucky.

Unfortunately for me, half term has coincided with my wife beginning a stint of night shifts, leaving me only the time after she's gone to work and the children have gone to bed in which to write undisturbed. Yesterday was a reasonable 1701, but much more importantly, my characters have taken over and my putative plot has been almost completely re-directed. That's the main reason why I'm down as 'other genres', I'm not yet sure what genre my story will take itself to. So far, a dead man's curse and the discovery of a body, neither of which I had anticipated, mean that I do at least have stuff to get my teeth into.

Yes, James, I've found myself re-directed already. I wrote something describing someone in a fair amount of detail. I thought he'd be a major character and have a big impact on the story - maybe he still will - but I'm going to have to kill him off in a couple of pages time!

I managed to hit 1,713 words yesterday, which was a nice surprise when I did the word count. At the moment, for today I'm on 235.
I was hoping to have a lot more done by now, as from next week I'm going to be so busy!
My characters are re-directing the story slightly, two of them just appeared before I meant them too! But unfortunatly I'm not doing as well today for some reason.

It's strange when that happens isn't it?

In January, one of my favourite characters died less than a quarter of the way in, without my permission, yet that death drove the whole of the rest of the book.

It's funny how it goes sometimes.

James.

Yes, I can identify with that, about my characters re-directing the plot. It appears in my story now that the main character, who has amnesia, has possibly murdered someone. I didn't know that was going to happen!
