I think it's a good idea that, perhaps next weekend sometime, we have our own festive author party. There's a study-lounge area in Churchill Hall's basement that basically nobody uses, and especially not on weekends. It has couches and expansive work desks that would provide plenty of room, and its just two doors from a set of vending machines stuffed with all forms of culinary jubilation. Others have proposed we use a Minard Hall room, which is also a possibility. We could, if a good location exists, also hold it off campus if necessary too.

I'm going to arbitrarily pose the night of Saturday the 10th. It probably won't be an all night occasion, but we can schedule it so that it's ready. Ideas here? Objections? Preferred dates/times? We'll figure it out here.

I think this is a really good idea, just so long as wherever we write has outlets for laptops! :P

If it was in Churchill then we'd all have to meet outside somewhere for those of us who don't have access to get inside the dorm, I think I'd rather do Minard just so people can come and go as they please without having to be escorted. I know that large lecture hall, I think it's room 138, is generally available for late-night events, maybe we could reserve that? Or, there is a large lounge in the upstairs part of the Minard annex which we could possibly use too, it has tables and couches and chairs I think. If we wanted people could also pitch in a couple of dollars and we could order a pizza or people could bring their own snacks too.

As far as objectives we could even set a writing goal for so many words, if people were up for that. I don't think that's too much of a problem, though, as I'm sure everyone's going to want to write anyway. Well...maybe not WANT to write but feel as thought they MUST, which is basically the same. Maybe each individual could set their own writing goal?

Anywho, just some ideas. As far as the date Saturday the 10th works for me, what time might we be looking at?

We could rent one of those lecture halls, although they aren't very festive. It'd be nice to have sofas or whatever else about than those tiny desks . That lounge in the annex is very nice though, and could serve just fine for as long as we're allowed to stay.

For an arbitrary time, I say 7:30 to start, with an indefinite ending?

Pretty sure I work until like 10 or 11 that night. I'm starting two new jobs this week... should be interesting. My vote at least goes for just the lounge above the coffee shop, but someone should at least let the Activities Office & Campus Security that we're going to be up there utilizing that space for most of the night. That way we don't get locked in or tick people off. And I'll show up when I can. Wow, I need this, lol. Word count is still way under 1000. Should perk up soon though... hopefully!

Sorry for my delayed response, I've been having trouble accessing the site. I'll talk to the activities office today and see what they say about getting a hold of Minard's lounge. If you guys need to contact me, my email address thesamwise@gmail.com doubles as an MSN address, or you can AIM Alchemy Nouveau. I'll try and get this figured out.

Also, the coffee shop by Stockbridge I've found is a really good place to work on the book. Lots of awesome chairs and sofas, WiFi, caffeine, and power outlets. Not for the Write-In of course, they're only open until 9:00, but still, I can generally be found there now, as it's a great place to get things done.

Interesting development. No authority exists at NDSU to reserve lounges, did you know that? I got a huge run around until I finally found a person in Ceres Hall who handles reservations, and she's only authorized to do classrooms. I'm not sure what we'll do from here, but we need a location that's open late. I'm sure I can host it at Churchill residence hall, but like AK said, that raises the escort issue.

Any ideas from here? I'm open to any suggestions.

I don't suppose you have to reserve it, just make sure campus security doesn't freak out when they want to lock the doors - especially on the weekends. Or get a room, whether we use it or not. That's pretty much the extent of my ideas right now. Unless they go in my fantasy story. I know what's happening, at least for the next few thousand words... I just don't have time to write it down! So I'm gonna go do that... mwah.

Did we lose the lounge in the Union where people use to congregate to play Magic or... something? It was just about the Korner Mart... I think there's a bison up there now.

That's still there, bigger and better, but the Mafioso guys are usually up there all the time. Though I'm sure they wouldn't mind sharing space. I have a few friends who hang out up there... I was actually writing up there earlier today, but I was over by the stairs, they're usually in the couches and stuff over the Korner Mart. I suppose we could use that, but there's still the issue of doors being locked at certain points in the evening. I know you can still get out, but some of us will probably come very late...

A bit of a problem, everyone. Seems most of the campus is going to be locked up this weekend due to the three-day nature, including the entirety of the Union. Things are sort of bleak, so I think we're better off moving to next weekend.

Oooooh...didn't think of that.

Next weekend would work better for me anyway, it looks like I might be in Bismark on Saturday.

So...is that lounge area still and option, and if so if we wanted to use that lounge above the coffee shop then we just need to know when the doors are locked so that we can be inside, right? Does anyone know if there's a specific time that we have to be out of Minard by?

I'm pretty sure that's right, but I'll make sure.

For now, we have a tentative plan. Over the course of Tuesday, it shall be an all day write-in from which we can come and go as need be in the upstairs of the Union. No pressure, just frenzy. We'll work on the weekend plans at some point.
