Okay....Who has a grudge match? A Friendly Border War? Who is racing whom?
someone with more fingers than me is going to have to go after Delayra.
ZenFajita - I'm calling you out.
You and I have got some business to settle.
I may not be winning right this moment (I'm 4.5 and you're north of 5.5 (I'd check for an exact number, but the dang site is slower than a frog in molasses brought to absolute zero packed in anthrocite and lunched in a low orbit around a dying planet), but I'm finally home from more than an hour at Michael's (also known as hell for most men). So watch yer back pardner.

Anyone else want to call someone out and challenge them in the light of day or the dark of night?

O'Leary,
Consider the gauntlet an officially tattooed gauntlet. With biting thumbs and all.
I'll take your challenge and race you to the end. I will beat you and keep my busy social life of clubbing and cross-stitching alive. I will no longer strive for quality of any kind, just quantity, quantity, quantity. As long as I ignore Diary and Delayra, I'll keep up the pressure.
Watch out for the frozen frogs.
Anyone else in the mood for pointless taunting?

Psst, ZenTaco....we're catching up to D.W. (isn't that Arthur's little sister?)
We may need to bite our thumbs at her, sir, a second time.
Diary, Beware Delayra, she is a force. But you challenge her all you want. She may laugh at you. She loves to laugh...ha ha ha ha...
"pointless taunting" - nay sir. The point is quite clear to me.
That whooshing sound was me passing you.

holy smokes you guys are catching up. That's because I had to stay up and write a 10 page paper for my comp class last night and slept through today...and then tonight I have to play mom and take care of a girl with the stomach flu...because I am the only one that can handle throw up. Lucky me...so here I am ready to write.

I had a paper due Wednesday night -- was soooo glad it was still October, but I have... 5 papers due in the next week. One due Monday that I just have to edit down from 15 pages to 5, the other 4 aren't technically assigned until Tuesday, but all due Thursday night -- minimum of only 500 words each for two of them and 1500 words for the other two, so easy peasy lemon squeezy. It's just taking away from my NaNo time!

Warhound likes a good fight - especially if you have a double-bladed axe and a bit of froth from your berzerker rage! Will anyone challenge him? He is vulnerable to work crises, so he does have weaknesses to exploit. Watch out for a leprechaun crouching behind you in one of those he pushes you soundly to trip over his partner in crime.

Whoa, looks like we got some showdowns going here, as I look on from behind the facade of, oh, let's say the new town library. Look at the dust being torn up out on the main street. Just watch your step for the horse piles building up...
And, hey, Brookside Blvd. (where the Roasterie is), does lead on up to Main Street, come to think of it.
Suggestion for you Word Warriors: Include your current word count in your body/comment section each time you post (along with editing it in your profile). Then we can see just who is ahead at that posting time. For post-erity and such.
Hope we get widgets, but I'd rather have the forums accessible in the first place...

poetT, you think you're sidling out o' the way, do you? You think you can avoid sittin' at the table just 'cause you run this town?
There's some folks lookin' sidewise at yer wordcount, ma'am, an' mine too--an it's time to show these big-talkin' cowpokes why we ain't concerned by bein' a mere few grand in the hole.
This here can be a quick, high-stakes game--you got til 6pm tonight to show me up--and whoever shows up at the saloon without 5k to put in the pot is gonna spend an hour wearin' a genu-ine, broad-brimmed, made-in-Texas-like-God-intended black cowboy hat, right in the middle o' brookside.
You steppin' up? You got a better plan? Different stakes?
'Cause if you want, we can up the stakes even higher, an' just say high card wins--er, highest wordcount, that is--but then it would be only fair to warn you, I aim to shoot high. 1924

Strangely reminded of an episode of Winnie the Pooh--"The Good, the Bad, and the Tigger." I don't make much of a Tigger with No Name right now--maybe Eeyore in a sombrero. (Hard to shift the voice--start to sound like one of Speedy Gonzales' cohorts.)
Eh, Inky, you goin' interrup' mi siesta with this novela writing? Hokay, hokay, you can deal me in. But thees 5 grand, it's not in dolares or pesos but palabras?

It looks to be a tight race here in the second pack. Waiting to see if one of us breaks from the pack. Y'know, unless Mike is sandbagging it. We know he's quite the deceptive one. Mel, it was great to see you at the write-in, but you've got to throw out a shout here on the cowboy channel. Let's see your trash-talkin', girl.
We're still a long way from the leaders, but all we can do is try and stay ahead of also-rans (did I just type that? uh-oh) Inkwet & Poet. Really shouldn't give 'em any locker room material. I'll shut up and go write.
Zen (not Goodrich, not zenny, not any of those other things, just Zen ~ although Zen Taco is okay)

Mel was a force. She types 120 wpm - which is simply not fair. Her hands were a blur. At one point, through the corner of my bad eye, I swear I saw a third hand emerge and continue an on-line chat with one of the others from her planet.

Zen - Only 13184 after going home and writing again last night, which I was certain you were going to do???? That's just not what I was expecting. I consider it my mission to fly right on past you during my lunch hour today, so hold on. Last Friday during lunch, I got in about 1500, so I'm taking you down today.
Mike - same with you - I expected that word count to jump up this morning when I logged in. Or have you just not updated your number yet??
It was great to see everyone last night, and it was definitely encouraging to have Mike and Zen both there to help drive me on my count.

Well, Inkwet came to the write-in with a mere 500 more than me. I accidentally stomped it into the mud on my way into the tavern. And, actually, I liked the hat. Might just hafta get me one.
And then she thinks we're done with our little shooting match here. huh You ain't seen nothin' yet, you big-headed Texan.
Hey! Has anyone seen that jmedward out here anywhere. ::tromps around:: Oh, yeah, I shoulda knowed I'd find you a-quiverin' behind this water trough. Come out of there, you yellabelly. You ain't gonna get away with your whimperin' and cringin' and claimin' wagon-train weather crises and most of all hidin' behind that baby's christening gown no more.
Come out and fight like a man. You and me and inkwet, I think we got some scores to settle---some 50K scores. Think you can get there before two womenfolk?
'Cause I don't think you can.

500 ahead? That was neck-and-neck---I was ahead by a measly 11 or 13 words.
But do not rely on that. No, next time it'll be welllll over 500--unless you can pick up the pace quite a bit. jm already knows he's gonna have to hit the trail hard if he wants to get ahead.

I'm Auntie Mame, trying to get my fingers to work the computer keyboard without too many typos. I joined Nano two years ago, but didn't write anything until this year.
How do I find out where and when the KC Nano meeting events are held?

poetT & inkwet_image - I didn't want to destroy your self-esteem by pounding you into submission in the first week. I realize you both have completed 50k or more in a month (congratulations, that is something I myself have yet to do); as such, I thought it might be too difficult for you to fall behind early. I want you to feel you have a chance at success, so please enjoy the head start. And I'm pretty sure inkwet only has one massive comeback in her... used up last year... where would the drama be if I got way ahead? As for hiding behind a baby's christening gown... he was baptized in April. And he wore overalls. I've got pictures.
*distracts everyone with cute baby photos*
Zen Mexican Food - It's subtle, but I would think you would be able to tell the difference between a taco and a fajita. Later this month I anticipate you'll be calling yourself Zen Burrito, which does have a certain ring to it, now that I think about it. From experience, I can tell you that a mere six or seven thousand word lead isn't anywhere near safe with those "also rans" coming up behind you... and since I'm going to sneak ahead of them while they're looking at pictures, you might find yourself behind a whole lot of us.
