Why hello fellow Nova Scotians!
The end of day two is quickly approaching and I'm just curious to see how everyone is feeling so far?
Are you keeping up with your daily quotas? Surpassing them? Taking a more leisurely approach?

I'm feeling good so far. 'Slow and steady wins the race' is my motto until i get a burst of inspiration and write like a maniac. Don't really know what I'm doing, but the words are hitting the page, so I can't complain.

I hope the coming storm doesn't knock power out for too long, if at all.

Happy writing, all!

Hi Allison,

I did lousy the first day, but caught up on Day 2. That's only word count mind you, not content. The content is still pretty lousy but at least after writing over 3,000 words yesterday I felt there was a tiny breakthrough into *real* writing.

After all these Nanos (this is the 6th for me), it comes back what you have to do to get it done. That familiarity is a good feeling.

Wishing everyone the best of luck with the storm tonight! God forbid our power goes out during Nanowrimo!

I'm at 3719 right now - 2949 behind where I need to be by day's end today, but I do have four and a half more hours of sitting in an office with no one around and nothing to do but eat, use the computer, and watch the Hockey Night In Canada Replay to go, so I think I'll catch up. ^_^ Especially now that all my friends are signing off of MSN, so I will be much less distracted (I was word warring with Jha earlier, but then she signed off and I no longer had anyone keeping me on task. XD)

I had a dismal first and second day, but Day 3 I was caught up and ahead. I'm not having as much progress as I thought considering the subject matter I'm working with.

It's the fourth day and I've only just caught up to my second-day word count. Bumming around with my friend and not being able to use the computer due to power failure tends to do that.

I have to double the word count on my book today to catch up. I think I can do it. 8-)

I feel bad for everyone who lost power in the storm. The weather really does have a mind of its own; you always have to face the fear of losing your power right when you need it, don't you? I'm in Dartmouth, and although the we lost power a couple times LATE last night, able to reach my 5,000 word quota at 12, right when the storm was allegadly supposed to hit. Thank God it didn't! My school is without power at the moment, I really hope to have the good fortune to have it stay that way for tomorrow. (I wrote almost 3,500 words yesterday; so at that pace, with the long weekend, I could be at 12k tomorrow!)

Right now I'm at about 5,100. I've gotta go write!

I am having really big issues with my progress. I am getting a laptop soon, so that'll make things easier- But my power has been out for the past day or two (we just got it back a while ago) and I had no way to write or anything. I am really getting behind, and I don't know when I am going to have the time to catch up :(

Oh well. I'll just try my hardest.

*points to that shiny little bar there on my left*

Not bragging - I'm just proud of myself. I didn't write much yesterday or the day before, but I *did* hit 10k in the first two days. Now I just need to write more today.

I seem to be one of those lucky people who didn't lose power in HRM.... my little neighbourhood seems to be insulated from it, for some strange reason.

Big hugs to the Wrimos who lost their power/haven't gotten it back yet - you can catch up!

I'm really happy with my pace so far, although overall, I haven't had as much fun as I expected. I catch myself sitting down thinking "WRITE! WRITE LIKE MAD!" and putting myself under pressure to type quickly rather than letting myself enjoy the process. So, I will have to check those impulses and focus on having a good time writing.

I also really missed checking the forums on nanowrimo.org while the site was down. I'm glad to see all your posts now!

I'm so excited.
I've been working without a title until now, but as I was cleaning the bathroom, of all things, it came to me, and I just had to come and share that before I start writing furiously for the next little while :)

My progress so far has been really good ( I am over 20,000 right now) so I am psyched about that and I didn't lose power because I would have been in a completely different situation otherwise, but I am worried that I am going to hit a wall or run out of steam because I don't love what I am writing about. I am obsessed with doing it every day but I am not having a lot of fun or anything. When are we going to the PaperChase again? That was so much fun! I think I actually like the energy when there are people around me writing me, and I thought I was a solitary writer.

Oh god I am floundering. I am trying to hard to get this one out. It seemed very much easier last year.
I am just under five thousand, and i am hoping to write alot more through the weekend.

any tips???

Life is a journey. If you don't once and a while stop to look around....think about all those moments you could have written about....they would fly by you and you wouldn't notice....

so....chill...life is too short to miss a writing opportunity.

mcandn2 -

No magic tips here, I'm afraid but after doing five of these *successfully* I can say that none of them are the same, so thinking about how it was last year doesn't help too much.

On the other hand, there are familiar moments and lessons learned that do come back throughout the month. Try not to compare it to last year. In fact, try not to think about how it's going at all! Every time you find yourself thinking about *how it's going,* try to turn your attention to your characters, plot etc. In my experience, you can't tell much about anything until you've gotten at least to 10,000 words!

Good luck and I hope it flows easier next week---it usually does!

Hugs to all those who lost power. I'm only now realizing how lucky we were!

It's bedtime on the fifth day, and I'm only at 3888. I am disappointed with myself, but on the other hand, I signed up on a whim on Nov 1. I didn't even have an idea--I just started writing. I haven't written any fiction in ten years. If I get half way there I should probably be pleased with myself for finally getting back to writing at all. I find myself feeling guilty for wasting time though. I did nothing today but procrastinate from writing. Now I'm bored, restless, and feeling defeated. Just thought I'd weigh in so that others can feel better than at least one writer.

Remember: you can always catch up!!

If you're stuck, take a break, see what you've got so far and think about what you'd like to see happen in your story next before proceeding. I find I'm stuck less when I know what's going to happen next. ^^

Taking breaks is also good, too.

If all else fails, throw in ninjas!!

Or pirates, Nazis, robots, or zombies.

Or Mary's good old busty lesbian ninjas (remember those, Jha?)

I was off to a slow start but things are falling into place a little better now--I think. All my characters seem to do is talk, talk, talk, but at least their verbosity is boosting my word count. And a space station was just blown up by hostile aliens. That should get things rolling.

My sister just started over for the fourth time tonight and she's still planning to finish, so take heart, anyone who's behind. Just do the math, figure out what you have to do to make it, and go go go!!

*points to wordcount*

:( Unfortunately, midterms have pretty much taken up all my time the last two weeks, and I'm sooooo far behind. I'm not too worried about catching up, I've got today, and then just writing a little more than 2000 words a day should get me there. And after Wednesday midterms are done, so I'll be in the clear for a few days.

Yikes, this was so much easier when I was in high school!

I know what you mean! There's a reason I haven't won since my senior year. I got a good feeling about this one, though. Almost to the middle of the month and I'm still on track.

You can totally catch up! My first four days I got a combined totally of about 2,700, but I managed to make it all up with a couple of hardcore days - and then I injured my shoulder. But I caught up and you can too! *waves ML cheerleader pompoms with one arm*

I'm creeping along, getting stuck occasionally, but rambling about nothing until I get my word count to where I want it to be. So I'm doing well enough for quantity, but there isn't really a plot as yet (!)
