Let loose the badgers of war on all those other regions...

This thread is intended to be light hearted, and while a certain amount of jibes and name-calling is to be expected, please follow the main site rules about behaviour on the boards. Smileys are actively encouraged! :->

Or course, we all know that England Elsewhere is going to sneak up and take first prize this year, don't we? It's time for Oxford to lose their crown... :->

Hiya,

Welcome to the UK and Ireland Regional Word War, hope you have fun taking part.

The leader board has been updated and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010

One thing to note: Anyone who hadn't signed up to the War before 8pm last night has not been included in these figures. You will be included on the 8th.

Good luck in trouncing Oxford! :-)

OK here's my post to join the attack, and my contribution to the word war. Back ontrack today after a little slippage yesterday. Good to see the total back in the black.

Keep up the words!

Can you stop that please?

Seriously, Oxfordshire is a prestige region vastly more deserving of the prize than little bits of the country not good enough to have their own dedicated forum all mashed together.

Thanks!

Actually some of us do have a region, but that region's not taking part in the word war yet, and those of us who are part of that region only found out that we had our own region after they signed up for this word war. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So come on you Elsies! Write like you've never written before!

Right Elsewhere? ;-)

Can I just ask a question with the word count. It says that you have to update your woundcount by 20:00, but I tend to write in drips and drabs across an evening and update as I go. So I might update two hundred words at five o clock and then one hundred words at half past five and so on. Is that going to cause a problem with the word war counting? will word count entered after 20:00 still be counted the next day?

Oooh good question! ^
Yeah i'd like to know that too ^.^

Can I say I thought what 'Dan uk' said was really rude.
Just because we live in small towns and little villages doesn't mean we can't compete with the others. Just because we haven't got a main name doesn't mean we aren't good enough to write too.

I think the over confidence of Oxford (mainly people like 'Dan uk') may let them down...
I'm not writing this to argue with anyone.
I don't argue over the internet... It's tacky.

Good luck to everyone

Think the cut off for word count is definitely 8pm and any updates after that will go towards the next count. So it should even out eventually...
But we must steal back first place so the more you can get in before 8pm the better! :->

Well I've done my bit to help steal it back - 9919 words over the last two days. That ought to bring us up a good few words.

Hi guys,

The leader board has been updated and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-280789

The sign-ups are now officially closed.

You have until 8pm on the 20th November to drop out without affecting your region's word count. However, dropping out will affect your standing in the 'highest proportion of participants winning' prize, so think carefully before you do.

If you do need to drop out please PM either your own ML or me directly before the deadline.

MLs you have 48 hrs after this deadline in order to inform me of someone dropping out, otherwise they will have to stay in until the end.

Good luck for the rest of the month! :-)

Hi again,

The leader board has been updated with the figures for the 18th and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1042010#comment-336842

Also, I finally managed to get my act together for long enough to get redfox the info she needed to set up the automatic scoreboard and that can be found here:

http://www.annelyle.com/write/scoreboard.php

This scoreboard is updated using the Nanowrimo WordCount API which is only updated once a day so it may be using slightly different numbers than the ones I use, but it is updated every day rather than every other day like my manual one, so is likely to be more accurate overall.

I'll keep up with the manual scores as well, but if you want to know where you stand on the inbetween days (and how many winners your region has already, please see the automatic one).

Finally, a brief reminder that the deadline to drop out of the Word War is 8pm on the 20th November. The MLs have an extra bit of time to let me know that someone has dropped out, but consider 8pm on the 20th the absolute latest time to tell your ML (or me directly) that you wish to leave. After the 20th everyone left in will be in for the remainder of the competition.

Thanks,

Lottie

Hi,

Well, we're in the final stretch now guys. Last chance to change up a gear and get those words written!

Expect daily updates between now and Thursday.

Friday's (ie the final one) will be calculated Saturday morning and sent out to the MLs for verification before it's posted, so it'll take a few days to appear.

In the meantime, tonight's figures are here:
