Hello Wrimos!

It's been quiet around here (and I hope everyone is quiet because they are writing!), and so I thought I'd just ask how everyone is doing? I finally have a solid idea in my head for my novel -- totally not doing what I planned on doing, but I like my new idea much better. I started out rough with 0 words on the first day; 2 words on the second day; but then at our first write-in, I managed 1,080 words! The fourth day was rough with 0 words, until the hubs started his writing for NaNo, which made me want to write, and so I managed about 600 words. I am behind by way of NaNo standards (I should be able to catch up as the ideas start to flow better because I can type about 55wpm!), but as far as personal goals go, I am feeling compelled to write again, which is all I really wanted!

So... how has been so far for you all??

Best,
Sarah

Basically, so far so good. I had about half the book or so blocked out pretty well, and lots of notes. I haven't looked at a note yet and have about run through the blocked out part, so tonight ought to be fun.

This isn't my first book. It's more like my 30th, although the first WriMo, which I'm doing more to break a mental block than anything else. I'm a fast writer anyway, and this is about my normal output when I get the bit in my teeth. I did 384,000 words in two months once, then 245,000 in about four weeks a few years later. This book will be relatively short, maybe 150k.

I am at 4,730 words and 10 pages, which is exciting for me because i've never been able to write this well in such a short amount of time.
I'm glad to hear that everyone else is happy with their progress!

That's great! -- Any success at getting any of them picked up/published?

Wonderful! My word count is lagging behind -- but I am not too worried about. Seriously. I have some time carved out Wednesday--

It's so great to hear!

Everything is going really well for me. I had over 3,100 written the first day but I couldn't type it all in because mom kicked me off the computer. I have been doing close to or over 2, 000 a day. Most of what I have written is junk but it's way too much fun to stop now.

Great job! & you can always pick up a pen and notepad to write -- my husband (he's doing NaNo, too) does it the old fashioned way. But I think, you writing is probably not as junky as you think it is, and there is always next month for editing!

Best,
Sarah

I tried in the distant past to get a couple published and was met with massive indifference, so mostly have written for an audience that appreciates what I write: me. In the last few months I've been experimenting with putting some of the older ones online on a writing site (http://www.beyondthefarhorizon.com/) and I've gotten a pretty good response. No money, but a good response from other compulsive writers like me.

Frankly, electronic publication may well be the future of writing, mostly because of the much lower overhead. I've read some darn good books online that have never seen paper.

Writers first write for themselves is so true! My husband (www.chrisreedfiction.com) has quite a bit of success with electronic/online publishing with his short stories. I hope we never get to just the eBook route though! I love the feel of tangible pages!

All the best to you! & good luck with your word count! I am impressed, I admit (and a tad jealous, too).

So far so good. I got a kind of late start do to travels, and then even once I was home I was kind of busy catching up on other stuff I wasn't doing while I was traveling, so I'm a little bit "behind"... but I have a plan for catching up and I think it'll work out okay. There are quite a few things that I'm neglecting because of NaNoWriMo but hey, we all have to make sacrifices, right? Anyway as soon as I'm not lagging so far behind I plan to take some time for those things.

How am I doing? HOW AM I DOING? AHAHAHAHAHAHA *promptly falls over from the insanity and stress*

But seriously, I just started my novel over yesterday, due to the constant mental blocks I was having with my current novel. So now I'm starting fresh at 0 words and with 8 days or so less than everyone else!

Oh yes. I dare to be extreme. (And I dare to get online with only a handful of hours of sleep, but, y'know, it's just not fun without caffeine and sugar in my system.)

I am behind, too -- ACK! But looking at your word count, I think if you just keep going, you will make it to the 50K mark! Just keep at it!

I wrote zero words on day one and on day two, I wrote two words "Working Title." It can be hard coming up with a plot, but just keep at it!

Hey all. First thread on here for my first year of NaNoWriMo, but I'm doing my best!

I'm in my Senior year of high school so finding time to write has been a bit of a challenge. Weekends are usually the most productive, but even then I never seem to break the 1,000 barrier in one sitting. I have a solid plot for my entire novel (with not a note written), so it's a matter of time versus a lack of thought process. I hope that this weekend I can slam a few thousand down.

As of about ten minutes ago, I'm at 3,921. My goal is to get to 6,000 before the evening's out. Crossing my fingers!

Amanda,

You are not that far from me -- I am north of you, in Davison. If you are ever interested in meeting up to have a "word war," let me know. But, I can only get around 1000 words in one sitting, too. As a work-at-home mom, and a college student, life is insanely jam-packed, but I really do feel the most important thing to do is simply write -- write often, write when you can, and eventually you will become a better, stronger writer, and will have that novel done! So hang in there, and let us know if you make it to your goal tonight!

Best,
Sarah

You know, the irritating thing is, I can do word wars all day long and type thousands and thousands of words without breakin' a sweat. But when I try to form them into complete, lengthy, novel-y thoughts, I cringe and fall apart.

Comes with a life of writing short stories, I suppose. :(

Buzzing right along, up to 73k as of tonight (12k today, best day so far). At this point it's a little hard to say how big this thing is going to turn out but I've been sort of thinking that 150k ought to be about right, so I'm about halfway to my goal of finishing this turkey this month.

Dragon Buster, I feel your flustraition on those short stories. I learned how to write Newspaper articles, then went to short stories, You have to think of your short story as an outline, then expand it in between the lines. And imagine you're watching it happen instead of writing it. Go with the flow! Each sentence of a short story is actually a chapter in a Novel! Take that sentence, and blow it out into feelings, description, and of that circumstance emagine atleast two important events per chapter, always leaving enough of the last to carry over into the next chapter to keep them reading. Keep a secret, until the very last to reveal for the ending. That's the struggle! I'm a down to earth sort of teaching what I know. I hope I was some kind of help for you, Going on 48 hours no sleep = not so literate, but I do have a highest honors Writing diploma in Non-fiction... Bragging now, it's time to go to sleep!

Happy Writing!

Wow. There sure are some fast writers here.

I'm doing pretty good (Around 18,000 at the moment) though I can't say my story is coming out all that well. ^^ Let's just say that I can write much better than what I'm outputting, but many of us on here are not used to writing under such pressures. And, strangely enough, I'm still on the second chapter. AND, just to complicate it more, there are three parts to my story, each longer than the rest. If my pace keeps going, I won't even finish part one! So, you can suppose I'm a tad overwhelmed by the enormity of my story.

Well, I can't say much more than that. I'm happy that a lot of people are far already.

Coming along pretty good. Still looking at this thing taking 150k, so starting to get a faint whiff of the end. Was a little surprised to discover that my 14.5k today put me over 100k total; I thought I was going to be a touch short. I am not complaining.

I'm writing a story and I hope it's a good story. It has lots of long letters and things that are black. I make them a lot at a time and sometimes they scare me a little bit becuase I am so outnumbered and if they ever wanted to gang up on me I would lose and they would win and the fighting moves I learned from watching the ninja turtles wouldn't help the tiniest bit. Does anybody know if there's some kind of spray? In a can? To light the scary words on fire like they was a big crowd of zombies trying to eat my brain?

Is anybody else a-scared of their words?
