My work-in-progress is a bit raunchy and I've got this phobia that if I die my parents will actually read all my work and they would DIE knowing that their daughter could write FILTH like this so I password-locked the file...

anyhoo, (and here comes the grumble) I'VE FORGOTTEN THE PASSWORD!!!!!!!

Anyone got tips on how to crack a Word doc password?

Yours with thousands of gratitudes in advance :-)

Anita

Thanks ozedge :-) Out of curiosity, how could you have fixed it? Yes it was password protect (to open) in Word. 98 version I believe...

ahh cool :)

just saw this response after sending you an email :)

that would be giving away the secrets of the trade :) but there are a number of ways of trying to break passwords... the first way to try (especially with simple encryption like with word (and word 98 makes it a bit easier... word 2007 sux to crack!!) is called a blunt force attack and that is basically throwing every combination of a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and special characters at it.... i have a little algorithm of my own which does it nicely

If you password protect, what happens when you open the file? Does a box immediately pop us, asking for a password?
