Hey everyone!!! It's nearly week 2 in China! YAY! How is everyone's novels coming? How's your word counts? Everyone should have around 10-12K words. If you're near there, keep up the good work! If you're above that, awesome job! Keep goin'!!
If you're one of those people who thinks they have something better to do during NaNo, like WORK, and you're word count is down.... GET CRACKIN'! (Just kidding!) No but really. It's bad to slack now. trust me, next thing you know, it's week three, and you're pulling all-nighters trying to finish. A few sentences here and there throughout the day will do wonders to your word count!
Also, try attending a write-in if there's on in your area. Just let everyone know your word count is short, and they will get on your case like a bunch of rabid-hungry-monkeys and get you up to where you should be.
If you have any questions or concerns, or want me to personally give you email kicks-in-the-butt, let me know.
BTW, how ARE your novels coming? Mine's personally fallen apart, but I'm still plugging away at it. And yay typos!

Yesterday I spent the entire day grading mid-term exams and most of this morning, but this afternoon I managed to get back into writing and get over 10,000 words. My story is going well so far. I am enjoying getting to know my characters and so far haven't run out of any ideas. However, after spending so many hours grading papers I am now ready for a good nights sleep.

I'm not doing so well. ;P
I managed to get 9000 words on the first day, because I was so excited and now procrasination is sinking in.
Still, I'm ahead of schedule and with a bit of luck I should pull through.

Somewhere around 11k at last count.
Novel is going. And it's having fun (so'm I) torturing the MC. Muwahahahah! (^_^)

Well, considering that I started 50 hours ago and have managed over 6,000 words in about 5 hours of typing, I'm doing pretty good. I'm enjoying this new creative process and I'm really looking forward to seeing how my story fleshes out. I even set up a list of "subscribers" who I promised to send new installments to (and they promised no feedback until I'm getting ready to edit it at a future date) to keep me honest and working hard.
At this rate I should be good to go by the end of the month. w00t!

I'm at about 8500 words right now. A little bit behind, but not too bad. I'm planning on attending a write-in this weekend, and a swift kick in the pants would probably be good for me.

I could use a kick or two as well since I am now a full day behind. I could also use some advice about slogging on when your characters and plot (is there one?) are meandering or looking like a mistake.
Not sure if I will make the write in yet.

I'm doing pretty good - just passed 15,000 words.
It was easier the first few days, though. I'm starting to worry that I've gotten too far in my plot and not far enough in my word count. I guess I'll just have to extend the story!
It's been great writing again, after years of not doing anything fiction-wise. As far as the novel, I like the story and think it will be good, but the writing is lousy. It's great not having to worry about that, though. I just need to move the plot along and not worry if it doesn't come out all pretty.

Advice: There's several things you can do.
1) Skip ahead. If you're bored, just move to a differant point in the story that's more exciting.
2) Go insane. Even if you didn't planned it, kill a character. Have something totally random and unexplainable happen, like ninja fighting clones of the easter bunny. Ants performing in a broadway musical. SOMETHING! Then make your characters figure out why this just happened, or try to actually fit it into your story.
3) Take a break. Maybe you're trying too hard to get words out. Write only a few sentences, take a 5-10 minute break doing something you love, or get something to eat, then try another few sentences. Another break. Etc, etc until you break out of the slump.

Good!
I"ve put myself into hyperdrive for the first two days, and got so proud of myself I thought I could take a nice break and....now....I'm.....out...of....ideas.....
Trying to reach 50,000 by the time my boyfriend's mother comes to visit on the 16th. Better find some inspiration fast!
It's been really fun chatting with people on MSN, and the word wars using that really pushed me to achieve. I recommend it to anyone, and if anyone sees me on-line (bethverde@hotmail.com) feel free to challenge me. :)
Happy noveling everyone!

This thread is a great idea! I think I also started pretty well, writing more in the first few days and then I had one really great day where the words just kept on flowing but GASP! I was at work. I got away with it but payback came in the form of two days with nothing written. I realized I was getting behind when I saw other people's word count so I stayed up late last night just writing. I just hope I can continue writing. I'm not even sure if the scene I'm currently writing is necessary to the story but it's already written and after all, editing is for Dec, isn't it? =)

Gah. Big science test, english coursework, IT homework, AND at least 3000 words in 4 hours.
I can so do it! ;]

Still no plot, still no clue who my MC *really* is...yeah. It's fun, even though I'm a tad behind. I'm hoping to get caught up today and tomorrow, then zoom ahead on the weekend. As long as I don't hit another wall like two days ago. Up to that point, the writing had a certain flair to it. After, it's trash with lots of typos because I'm just trying to not fall behind even farther. Hard for a semi-perfectionist to live with, but I'm doing it. As well as I can...can't wait to figure out how to actually move the story forward with my MC as an interesting person.

I was on-target til yesterday, but today, tomorrow, and friday I've got exams. I dunno if I'll get any writing done tonight - probably won't - and didn't last night - stress and studying, again - but I do know I'll be able to catch back up during the next couple days and weekend.
I say this with the confidence of someone who has written 10,000 words in five hours last year. Yeah, I can do it.
As for the story? The story's great. I'm really enjoying writing it - it's surreal and wonderful and busy and just one that's a delight to write. My plot's still together, because it's not hte kind where I plan everything out in advance - it's like paternoster lakes: I know certain things that happen at certain times, but outside those, I can put in whatever, and whatever can happen.
So yeah. I'm good here. :D

Getting there slowly but surely, lagging a little behind with my wordcount though. Seeing everyone elses is giving me wordcount envy and making me want to write more..that can only be a good thing. I'm a bit depressed that MSN has died on me for some unknown reason so I can't even chat to other NaNo-ers online! Evil laptop of doom!
The novels coming along swimmingly. I've taken a lot more time setting up the characters and their backgrounds than I thought I would. But the actions just about to really start, should make the writing either much easier or much more difficult!
Anyway, I'm going to stop procrastinating and carry on!
Congrats to everyone who's made it over the 10,000 word mark! Keep on scribbling!
