I am Caed Aldwych and im currently working on a novel that will find a group of characters struggling with their own personal demons in a rapidly changing, violent medieval world where the only powerful magic is possesed by a handful of mages and the law of the land is metted out by the sword.

Greetings, Caed. My book is about vampires and the good side of them. It's also about being saved from bullies, abuse, neglect, abandonment.

sounds good guys mine is about the battle between good and evil (or more acurately those that want to end everything as we know it and those that dont...
the lines aren't divided along the expected lines with lucifer himself siding with the good guys.. each side is led by a mortal with more power than they realise

I really don't know if i have a dark side fantasy story, but it something like that.
Soul City is aboat city, in amidlle of desert, which have been going throu much war's. MC is a boy, who was tortured when he was just 8 and now he is living blind all these years. It's more philisophical work, aboat how human can live when he can't see anything in a city, where syphatetic is a miracel and were he will try to hide with his newfind friend.
A bit strange, but like me ^^

Up until a couple of days I didn't belong here, but now I am working on "Best Left Evil", a story about the struggle between good and evil -- with evil protagonists. In a medievalish land, the Supreme Ruler finds a way to force people to be good, and institutes that procedure as punishment for most everything. A man treated by the procedure wishing to regain his freedom, and an evil manipulative son of a bitch who doesn't like such a curtailed society are part of a world-wise rebellion. It's sort of 1984ish Demolition Man meets Clockwork Orance set in medieval times with magic instead of technology -- and not a lot of either.

I think this is probably where I belong. My novel has the trappings of epic fantasy, but is structurally a cross between a horror movie and Die Hard. I just got two thousand words into the first bloodbath (my orc-equivalents killing a few dozen unarmed mercenaries in a tavern) and am now going to go think happy thoughts for the rest of the day.
The flavor of my book was probably most influenced by Glen Cook's "Black Company" series. Now THERE's dark fantasy.

Mine's practically horror, but I have vampire elves, alternate worlds, a hidden society of Wizards and pretty fairy people whose wings can cut flesh. I suppose I'm just riding the line between ;)
Oh, and the bulk of the story takes place in a modern day mental asylum. Fun! All I can say is keep checking my excerpts for a hint of how it will pan out.

wow that sounds cool! Mine wasn't supposed to be dark, but it is getting darker the further I go. vampiric elemental beings, a society who is just a little too blood thirsty (these are not the vampire-types, but the assassins), murder, mayhem - but no prophecy!

That's an awesome thought process!
I don't have any demons, vampires, or anything like that, but I feel like my novel is going to take a really dark turn sometime soon. It will definitely be exploring the darker aspects of what you might call human nature. The novel is essentially one big power struggle which will undoubtedly push things in a darker direction, as some characters will do anything to get ahead. Oh, the possibilities...

I like the idea of vampire elves!
My story is about a mute orphan named Shadassa (it means 'of the shadows' or 'shadow bringer') who inherits a large mansion by the sea. Everything's great until she starts seeing mysterious shapes in the shadows at the mansion (where she must live one year alone to fulfill the requirements of the will that named her heir). My other MC comes in there, Salamandestrom is a shadow cat who wants more than what his society offers (shadow cats live off shadows, no, they ARE made of shadows, but they can destroy a human by killing the human's shadow), but his clan is against it and a war breaks out between the shadow cats, who exile Salamandestrom, and Shadassa, the only human who can see the cats.

I would say mine is a pretty dark fantasy romance, especially since my incubus protagonist spends 75% of the book having non-consentual sex with the other MC in his sleep, and so far, the magic is negligible, which is a bit weird for me, sine I usually write high fantasy.
----------Breach: When a sexsomniac meets an incubus, sparks fly, but can they stop hating themselves long enough to fall in love with each other? Find out at http://katicalocke.livejournal.com/.

Now that I'm actually writing the story I think that this could very easily be dark fantasy...I have zombies chasing my protagonists around because MC1 can't control his powers, panics about something, and revives any corpses in the area (and since they're being pursued this is happening a lot). And then using magic slowly kills people, screws up the weather, etc.

I guess I'm writing dark, low fantasy. Aside from all the characters being anthropomorphic animals, the only other fantasy element I see here is ghosts. And this is supposed to be about mobsters. So I guess I would qualify.

Wow... Lots of good ideas out there *smiles*
In my writing, the darkness not only comes from our baser human nature, but also from a darker evil that lay hidden from view. The main cast of characters are struggling with thier own problems in a world much like the Dark Ages Europe but with the mythological aspects kept in as reality...

Probably where I belong. I didn't intend for this story to be very dark at all, but it's getting creepier the more I write.
Basically, my MC is stuck in a dream world (a semi-physical place in her world). Usually this world serves as a bridge between our world and the Otherworld-- Faerie, heaven, hell, no one really knows-- and only a select few have the ability to traverse it. All of those people are currently stuck there, because of the whims of one woman who is extremely... well, messed up. Her psyche in this world has fragmented into several pieces, each representing a time in her life, and they're all slowly but surely overwriting the rest of the dream. I actually creeped myself out writing what one of those psyche's dreams looked like, and that has absolutely never happened before-- most of my dark elements come from being able to write about a physical manifestation of people's inner minds.

Mine is a tough one. Before the halfway point (about 50 pages in) the story was pure historical fiction. But now that I've burned the Temple (yay!) the werewolves are ready to come out. The next scene that I write will be the first appearance of the werewolves in the story, and there are a LOT of them (a couple of hundred).
I'm trying to psych myself up to write a very dark, violent scene of werewolves wreaking bloody mayhem on a completely unsuspecting Roman Legion. The MC is in there also, and I have to figure out how he survives the massacre.

Hi, I'm Anarel.
My novel is about darkness, strange and evil monsters, dark spirits, psychology, a mysterious race named "Arunae", two brothers having to face all the though trials that they have to go through...The action is set in my conworld, which is a fantastic world, but with many elements that break with many clichés, if not all. I like writing horror, but also fantasy, so I mix both to get a fantasy full of horror scenes and dark mysteries...but also fantastic races, a living, grew-up world with many stories waiting to be told and, of course, magic.
The story is divided in two parts: one where the brothers, Raél and Rhûn are facing The Trial through the Caves of the Worm...but you know this at the end of the first part. All you know since then is that one brother, Rhûn is kidnapped by the Monster, a dark, evil creature, who is always hungry of fleshy little beings; and the other, Raél goes through the caves in order to save his brother. But he faces a monster, the Human-Fish, a creature mix of a rotten fish and a person.
The first part ends with the kids meeting back, managing to kill the Human-Fish and finally going back to their little town, Táen (this is also the title of the novel).
Second part is set 10 years from the first. Is about The Travel, the last Trial the brothers have to face. They travel to the Valley of Fog, a strange and chaotic place. But after they manage to get there, they go through the caves beneath the Obsidian Mountains and meet new horrors there, like the Sealed One. For now, I'm writing the part when they get to the Valley. I'm sure I'll get to 50K, but I won't get further with this story, because I think there's no reason to do this.

Hmm...
Elven vampires, big bad evil, modern day asylum, holy wizards, dark wizards, three worlds, and pretty male MC that has a very, very bad week.
Opening line:
Scythe, Divine Chaos, Golden Horror, Bane of all Wizards, Heaven’s Greed...these are all names to describe one species. Born from light, but serve chaos; holy and beautiful, but destroy all they touch.
They are called Gleam Children.
They are insane.
I think that sums it up.

I guess you could say my fantasy is dark...
----------It's such a complicated story.
My FMC gets a phone call from her fiancee (who she thought was dead until she heard his voice), and she goes on this quest to find him.
But the catch is, she has just nearly killed a vampire of another coven, and now he is out to kill her and all of her freinds. AND she's falling in love with my MMC.
lol,
I'm really not a morbid person!
This was going to be a happy, romantic fantay... but i just HAD to start killing people and creating vendettas.
I guess i'm just not meant for happy novels.
