Thanks for coming guys! You really made my day. That was more fun than a really fun thing. (People who left early: You missed the inevitable turning of the conversation towards sex. If you think Naoko's random sex stuff was dirty, you have no idea what went on later. Let's just say I am glad I have the anonymity of the internet to protect me, mwahaha)
Eaglewing has proposed for more meets (hurray!) and writeins for us to gather and be creative. (Read: Talk crap)
I promised a Firefly DVD to everyone who shows at the next meet, and I am a person of my word!
Iseare: Thank you so much again for Game of Thrones. I've read the first twenty or so pages, and it is glorious. I'm torn between continuing, and putting it aside because I am sure I will become a total wreck after finishing it, staring blankly at my NaNo novel going 'I am not worthy... I am not worthy...'
And to Aquilo, Good Bye Chunky Rice = heartbreaking. What a fantastic book.

P.S. I open my email, and smack at the top of my inbox is a pep talk from Naomi Novik. I knew I was good, but prescient? (I predict that 5 of you will not finish your novels)

Seriously though, glad to hear you guys had fun...Malaysians rock!
And I'm feeling vindictively better just by virtue of the fact that someone here is a GRRM newb. Hawhaw. GRRM is an allnighter author. I yelled expletives awful loud when I came to certain sections. Talk about good plots.

What happened was eaglewing was giving out books. I was next to last, and was happily watching people get Neil Gaiman, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Ayn Rand, (which I've wanted to start reading, but still I waited)
When it came my turn... Garth Nix.
I do not dislike Garth Nix in any way, and I was making a joke about how the book I really wanted to read had been given to the guy before me (Ayn Rand) when out came the book for the last person...
Iserae (I spelled it right this time) was nice enough to trade with me, hence my thanking her above.

It was lovely meeting you all! The meet was fantastic fun and I'm really looking forward to the next event. Given how our gathering proceeded though - I'm not sure the bunch of us would be able to make any actual progress if we gathered together to do a write-in... we'd be too busy talking and laughing!
Sigma83, your delight with the book is certainly a pleasure. I have at the moment three books and Zkcryawlyh's novel to read, so I wouldn't be going through it anytime soon anyway - I'm sure it would rather be sitting smugly on your table/shelf, tempting you to read it . ;)
Back to NaNoing I go!

Thanks everyone for an enjoyable day.
I must say it's nice to put faces to the handles I see here and all of you are great. Can't wait for the next meet-up. Don't know how productive it would be but it'll definitely be fun.
Happy writing everyone!

I believe I mentioned Naomi Novik's pep talk prior to whipping out the books (the talk arrived yesterday in my inbox), but it must have gotten lost in the conversation. And a hex on you, sigma83, for proposing that these people won't finish their novels! Bad dog, BAD!
Someone got a Neil Gaiman? What was this book, I must know.
I'm glad to meet folks just crazy enough to even take up an endeavor like this because it shows that people rock. All smiles and exuberance and passion, and now I can finally put a face to them all. Felt as if I was walking back to a circle of old friends, exactly like the first time I did back in 2004.
I had loads of fun. Let's do this again soon!
PS: There is no good bye, Chunky Rice.

Yay! Go team! So glad you made it to the kickoff and those who didn't, hey you were with us in spirit (say yes or I'll tickle you).
Updated the blog today at http://nanomy.blogspot.com
Now, I wish I could say it gets easier but no, it doesn't. It's very easy to lose steam but you have to stick with it and persevere. Be each other's cheerleader. :)
That's why events are important to keep ongoing through the month so probably next weekend we'll try to get some sort of write-in where we'll work on our novels but of course have breaks for silliness. So long as you write your quota of 1.7k words in the sit-in then it's all good.

Right on! I always look forward to these nano meetups. Its great fun to meet new people with similiar interests, as quite often, the demands of my indentured servitude (read: job) leave me precious little time for my own pursuits.
Also, you might be surprised to know that in 3 years of nanoing and 4 years of knowing about it (I met some nano people in 2003) this is the first time I've met eaglewing, who's a nano institution in this country. so, I've finally met the great eaglewing. It is on the wings of eagles, that we will soar. *hides*
sigma83: I haven't started Garth Nix yet, there were too many temptations in bookxcess, which I readily purchased. So I'm reading one of those first. Also, are you a member there? 5% diskaun for purchases above rm50...
i-sarae: You had to look up my handle? I thought you knew it by heart already :P
Also, the honda puyo looks terribly ugly, but then I'm betting it gets 100 miles to the gallon, if it does still use fossil fuels, and will save the environment in some way. Now, imagine Al Gore driving that thing to his inconvenient truth lectures, and strike one doomsday scenario. I also spy with my little eye the crazy wheels on that thing. I imagine you can make it go in tight little donuts and get really dizzy.

I've discovered a terrible side effect of attending NaNo meetings.
The day after, filled with routine, class, and assignments, is drab and colorless.
Maybe I'm just in some emotional funk but it's poetic so I might as well practice.
Cannot wait to get home from uni and tinker on my novel.
And immediately as I say that i remember I have to prep the slides for my presentation due tomorrow.
sigh...........

Something has been bugging me since the meet up.
Did Aquilo attend the meet up? I checked my contact card and i counted 9 people all accounted for. But no Aquilo. Am I going nuts and losing my memory or that i went blind?
Hmm.
