You know, where you post in what you've done (amount of words) and it works out how many we've done per capita? Does this make sense to anyone?

Ouch, they are doing better. But we're only a couple of k behind! GO PERTH!! Don't forget they have Thanksgiving this month, where they eat lots and write little. We have the edge, we have the edge...

Now I'm confused, both the XML files and the graphs in the profiles* seem to say we're miles ahead of them. What am I missing?
I have DeKalb as 131k-ish and Perth as 460k-ish.
*any of ours show the Perth stats; Apollo16's shows DeKalb stats

yes but we are going on average word count

Oh right, that explains that then. Thanks.

That is correct. When we set up the word war we agreed on average word count (words per wrimo). We are 40 and you are nearly 300 so we thought that would be fair. However, at this rate... we might not need to do averages...
Numbers for 11-8-07:
Perth = 6470
DeKalb = 8729

P.S, How's the drought? I mean weather not writing. In case you think that blow was a little low, in August my house appeared on the weather channel... for flooding... You know you are having a bad day when your house is featured on the weather channel.

OH NOES!
We can't lose... WE SHAN'T LOSE!
We must take full advantage of their Thanksgiving holiday and.. steal all their turkeys and ship them to... Scandinavia so they have to go on a hunt for turkeys and waste MORE of their time.
Eh heh. Win win.

OMG Junaberry you have written SOOO much, are you just not sleeping? We should all be so prolific...
eta Apollo, thanks for your concern re the drought. (And wow, sorry to hear about your house being flooded! Can't imagine seeing my house on TV like that!) My parents are farmers and this is the first year in about 6 years where they might actually make some money from their crop. Even so, when I was visiting recently, my dad was already having to cart water for the sheep to drink. Weird weather, that's for sure. You could send a little of your flooding over here, if you like - in the form of a few summer thunderstorms. Wait till January, though, because otherwise the harvest will be ruined :-)

I would absolutely LOVE to send your our Jan. weather. However, it will be in the form of snow. That will confuse the sheep. But... since they are woolly... shouldn't be a problem. It will melt fast.
Wow... carting in water for the sheep. I would be more likely to cart off the sheep!!
Actually, we lucked out with just water on the property. The sump pumps managed to pump fast enough to keep the water out of the house. DeKalb is flat like a pancake but I live on a street call "something Hillcrest." Now... "hill" is an exaggeration... think parking berm... but that kept the house pretty dry. The shot was a panning shot from our house almost dry to our neighbors behind with water through the doors to the neighbors behind them with water half-way up their windows.
The irony is that because we were dealing with the flood we didn't actually get to see the video. (We did see the guys with the tv camera.) We had friends call and tell us about our neighborhood being featured.

Hey, when we're doing this average.. comparison thing, are we counting the inactive members as well?

There are two ways of doing it. I am using the widget supplied by nano and located here on the website:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/widgets
The script is smart enough to only use those who actually post and those who are actually signed up with each region as their home. For example, I affiliated here so I could come and taunt but my word count doesn't help you. Same when you come visit us. If you use the one widget it shows all the people affiliated but this one doesn't. I am going to try to paste it in below. Here goes:
I will come back as an edit after I see whether this worked...
OK it did. This shows that we have 16 active posters and you have 72. If you use the other widget, it shows the average calculated this way but with total affiliated. (We have 42 and you are around 300 if I remember correctly.)
Hope this helps.
Apollo16
P.S. While I am here... Are you sure you don't want to come to the dark side Luke? Be a winner Luke... Make DeKalb your home region Luke...
Did you ever see Disney's Jungle Book? Remember the snake? The hypnotic snake Kaa...
Come with me... come with me... Mowgli... Come with me...

Ignore, Junaberry, because in the end we will prevail. Besides, if you go, we really don't have any hope!

I'd never leave Perth, my home, my first love... so on and so forth. Oh, btw, don't forget about our first (i think...) ding-ding-ding-er, Jomiki, who just hit 50K!
He should be sending out pep talks or something to all Perth nano-ers. Lol.
Oh, and Apollo, don't forget that Kaa gets stomped on a many times and, correct me if I'm wrong, swallows a rock in Jungle Book 2. Which does prove something.... DEKALB IS BEING RUN BY ALL THE EVIL IN THE WORLD! DO NOT GO INTO DEKALB LAND OR YOU MAY BE FORFEITING YOUR LIFE!
Oh yes! My Disney-esque tendencies have proved somewhat useful! Or maybe I'm sounding like an idiot... My fingers seem to have a mind of their own nowadays.

Actually... if you come to DeKalb, you tend to simply die of boredom. Even Death got bored and moved on. That is why those of us with imaginations will prevail! If we can overcome DeKalb... we can overcome anything!!! Write on DeKalbites!

LOL HE is a SHE and I would love to help. My tip is Don't worry about the grammar and spelling go back to that later. And if you have an idea write it down in a separate chapter. I will give you something to go on with when you are stumped.
As nano is more about quantity rather than quality, write all your thoughts down. Ditch them later if they don't work.. But sometimes the weirdest Ideas turn out to be the best. Like smashing a full chamber pot on a nasty guy's head. Effective and sends a message of what she thinks of the guy at the same time.
OK rambling now. I will go and try and push our word count up some more.
