Hey WC,
I've been wondering...what is this year's swag*? Have you received it from HQ yet? At what events can we get our grubby wrimo-mitts on it?
Thanks!

*For the newbies, every year NaNoHQ sends the MLs something fun (aka swag) to give away at write-ins and the TGIO. Last year we got stick-on tattoos, the year before that it was stickers.

I do have this year's swag! It came in the mail yesterday, and it is...stickers! I'll have them at the Lestat's Write-Ins as well as at the TGIO party, which is in the works as we speak.

That's great! I guess I have to wait for the TGIO since the Lestat's write-ins happen while I'm working. Maybe you could pass some stickers (and some of the leftover tattoos I gave you at the kickoff) to Erin to pass out at Cosmos too. :-)
Thanks for the update!

So I just finished and have a question. I cannot scramble my words. The directions given were not exactly right because the newest version of Word is slightly different, but even though I figured it out, it just freezes on me every time I try it. Do I have to upload my words to get the certificate, or does it take my word for it that I passed the 50k mark? My husband told me he read somewhere it takes my word for it for everything except the certificate, but we can't find where it says that now.

You wiill have to use the validator to get a final word count and be considered a winner. I've never heard of anybody having their Nano work stolen so I wouldn't mess with scrambling the words. . I'm fairly certain you'll be safe. Just paste everything into the word count validator and submit
I would suggest doing it early - if you're finished now get it in before the rush. The last few days can get crazy on the site.

thanks, kip! john gardner said some of the things that make a good novelist is being obsessive and stubborn, so i find that comforting since i created a key and scrambled letter by letter, and will now destroy the key. somehow that worked, but when i did it the way described on this site, it only tried for about 3 seconds before crashing everything. i'm more afraid someone will read it than steal it, actually =)
so is that it? it changed my word count by minus 3 words, so i assume it took, but i don't see it saved anywhere or anything. do i get some official verification somehow that i'm done? am i really done?

The official verification doesn't start until Nov 25th. So to be "officially" a winner (have it shown on your profile, have your wordcount bar changed from green to purple, get directed to the website with the winner certificate and icons) you'll need to upload your novel again on or after Nov 25th.

Thanks, everyone! Just an FYI, I did not have to reload it. I signed back in to do it, but it already knew I had reached the 50k mark from my download before 11/25.
