How is everyone coming up with their word counts? I am writing at work and at home. At work we have MS Word for Office 2003 and at home I use MS Word for Office 2007. It seems that the Word '03 gives me a word count, but when when I email the sample to myself and then save it on Word'07 at home the count goes down. I guess it's better that everything gets "low-balled" but now I realize that computers are fallible and I'm not sure how off I might be or in which direction.
Does anyone have any other hints or ways to get a more valid word count besides me sitting there with a toothpick reading my own 20+ pages now?

I am at 8,500 words, it's pretty sad, but the write-ins will keep me etched in my own story.
As for the word count, just take the lowest count to be safe. As long as you are for sure over 50,000 then the NaNoWriMo count won't be unforgiving to you anyway. I am pretty sure you won't be stopping at 50,001 words.
I would go with 2007, it's more recent and i would assume it would be more accurate, but i could be wrong.
