...no matter what?

They're right. *makes face* Wednesday was so insanely busy and hectic I can't even remember why it was (how's that for redundant?), plus the nasiest case of writer's block I've had in a long time. Thursday (today, really, even though its after midnight) involved me being unavoidably upisland for about 8 hours. The resulting panic attack from being in a car, in the dark, in the rain, going down the Malahat, was enough to knock my brain out for the last few hours I could have used for catching up.

If I don't manage to bust my way out of the block in the next few hours (I'm staying up until 3am, tops) I'll have to write 8000 words tomorrow to catch up for my 75,000 word deadline at the end of the month. Saturday's wordcount will have to be done in the early morning before I have to go spend a night in Langford, and I'll be coming straight from that house to the NaNo meeting, so Sunday gets deligated to after-dinner hours.

I'm not too worried about it, since I'm pretty sure I can make up for lost wordcount throughout the month if all else fails, but still. Gah! Wordcount!

(And of course, I had to procrastinate some more with making this post... go figure. Now, if only this darn writer's block would scram. I had to get stuck at one of the only TWO scenes in the entire novel I hadn't planned out to a T.)

Eh, when that happens I just try and write a little more each day -- or go nuts one day, but that's never the wise method (and yet, I do it....). I figure as long as it gets over 50K, the rest is technically just icing on the cake.

That's what's mostly keeping me from being discouraged... I set my goals high from the start, so even if I was doing 50k, I'd be 2800 words ahead of the game right now.

I'm going to try to get to 19k by tonight, and hopefully 22k by tomorrow afternoon. Slooowly making the climb back up to ideal wordcount. I feel like a little toy train, chugging along!

I've been procrastinating for the past three days. I think I wrote about 100 yesterday, and have only written about 400 today. I'm just forcing myself to make the next 600 to 25k, and then I can stop if I want to, but hopefully inspiration will come in before then. Darned week two.

*boggles* Ohmigoodness! You're right! I can't believe I didn't realize it was the Week of the Damned already... I think its time to build an emergency shelter from radioactive novel fallout to bang out those last 2500 words of catch-up.

Yup, it's that time of the month. *snerk* The time when any smart person brings out bomb shelters, plot lines and characters they weren't sure they wanted to use, and any possible form of self-bribery they can find to get through the week. Not that I really have the right to complain, but I wasn't able to write yesterday or the day before, and it saddened me. Though I've just been informed that I do an excellent job of doing other people's homework. Can I put that towards my wordcount?

I'm sure you can find an inventive way to work it in! :)

I ended up catching up after all, by pulling out an existential telepathic bonfire conversation (it makes more sense in the text; the desert people use "magic" to communicate through fires), a pseudo-time-travel-magic-tunnel, a sand storm, and some discomfort on the main character's part when he accidentally reveals his deformity. (Oops.) I planned... exactly none of those. Except the last thing, technically, but that wasn't supposed to happen for at least a week.

And this may not be politically correct, but I think the PMSing Woman Archetype can be used for pretty much every step in NaNo, if you think about it real hard.
Week One = First few days. The reality of it begins to sink in. Fevrantly wishing for it to be easier than last time.
Week Two = The worst of it. Cue constant string of cursing.
Week Three = "I can see the end! Thank god! I just have to hang in for a little longer!"
Week Four = Normality begins to resume. Breathe sigh of relief at end of week. Now to wait for next year!

Now, if only PMS came as infrequently as NaNo...

If this sounds very distracted and silly, its because I've just written 6000 words in a single sitting, and its celebration time! (Aka, brain dead. Also see: bed, sleep, now.)

*snorts* I hadn't thought it out that well.

I wrote 6000 words yesterday too! Now I'm at 32k! I should probably update my little wordcount bar.
