Botrytis has the spiffy keen idea of holding a region wide meet up for the middle of the month. Build camaraderie, share ideas, mutual banging of heads on walls or tables about plots and characters going awry, etc.

She's got it set up on the Events Calendar for November 16 - so start sending/posting suggestions to her for places & times to meet that are between Raleigh and Durham - to keep folks from having to drive too far. Maybe people can get together to arrange carpooling.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it, but I hope the majority of you can!

Actually, I was thinking that Friday might be a better plan, since most people won't have to get up early on Saturday (also, because one of my favorite bands is playing Thursday, and it would break my heart to miss it.) Friday is still pretty close to the middle of the week, and I think that its near weekend placement is more conducive to leisurely meetups, also, it won't interfere with the central Raleigh write-in. Good idea or no?

Is the date the 15th or 16th? Day or evening? I can go anywhere and provide transportation as long as it is not afternoon of the 15th. pattipen

So Friday night the 16th of November?

Do we have any idea where we want to do it?

I know TheLorax and I threw around the idea of doing something at the Golden Corral - we would need 20 people to attend, and we could get a room there for free - and it's one of those you can pay once and munch and type all day if need be...

Do we have any plans for this yet? I thought it seemed like a cool idea, but the thread has kinda died on it...

Well, we've got a date, let's say the time will be 7 o-clock PM. All we need is a place. I thought that a Raleigh location would be preferable for the majority of our group, and since I'm quite unfamiliar with restaurants in Raleigh, I was leaving it up to someone else to choose a spot. I'd definitely prefer a place that was not a Golden Corral though. If no one can decide on a decent Raleigh location, I would be more than happy to move it into Durham, but I've got a feeling that most of the Raleigh people wouldn't bother coming.

Well, what are you looking for in a restaurant?

I use a laptop, and while I'm not as concerned as some about power supply, that is an issue.

Also, an issue is needing a big enough space that laptops and notebooks can be going.

What sort of food do you want? Does it have to be in a restaurant?

Do we need a place where we can get our own room so we can stay in there for an extended period of time?

Is there a place that will let us take up that much space on a Friday night without wanting to kick us out?

You need to have all these questions answered before looking for a space. And with only three days to go, it might get a bit hairy.

Ok, I feel like this is getting sort of silly. No one has suggested a location, so I'll assume that it's because everyone is either willing to drive anywhere in the triangle, or isn't planning to show up. We'll be meeting at the Caribou Coffee in Brier Creek. I know it's a chain, but it's a lot cozier than the Barnes and Noble, and I think it's a fair compromise between Raleigh and Durham.

This is a Meet-up, not a Write-in, so don't expect everyone to be writing. If you can't stand the idea of taking a night off, we'd love for you to come out anyway and write while the rest of us gossip. we'll all be impressed by your dedication.

Parerclip has suggested that everyone bring in novel excerpts or whatever else they'd like to share, which I think is a fine idea. If we get hungry, there are nearly a dozen restaurants in Brier Creek that we can meander to at our leisure. Being a movie addict, I may also head to the movie theater thereif the meet-up winds down early, and would be happy for some company.

If you're reading this, please drop a response saying whether or not you plan on coming, it doesn't have to be long, just a simple yay or nay so I know how many donuts to bring.

I think I'll be able to make it if I skip tae kwon do. And this'll be my first meet-up!

Question! Since I've never been to a meet-up and don't know what anyone looks like...how will I know how to find you?

We'll have a NaNoWriMo sign - or two or three. I'll be wearing a NaNo shirt too. Not sure which year yet and there will likely be donuts with us.

You can also look for a knitted shawl that is light green, dark green and tan - Parerclip (Michelle) will be wearing it.
