Hi everyone, I hope your writing is going infinatly better than mine is. As of this afternoon I have 6K and change written. Does anyone have words of magic advice to help me reach the landmark of 10k which I should have reached rougly a week ago?
This is also slightly off-topic but is anyone up for a Royal Oak write-in sunday the 18th in Barnes and Noble?
Happy typing!

The best advice I can give is just put your head down and barell through. That and set a goal and don't let up until you reach it. This can be time or words, either works. Let your characters go wherever they want. Let your plot go wherever it wants. Remember, the delete key is your enemy.
Is there anything in particular that is keeping you from writing? A character or plot point bothering you? Friends and family?
As far as sneaky tricks to increase word count: ' is also your enemy. Sure, it makes your dialogue sound goofy, but why say can't when can not is two words?
What time are you thinking of writing next Sunday? I'm in, depending on time.

Hannah,
There's a "reach 50K" topic in this forum where several of us have put down our ideas. Otherwise, what Micah says is good advice. I would add only a couple of things. First, just write! Doesn't matter if the characters sound like idiots, the plot goes in circles or Mary Sue's dress is green when she walks into the library, then she comes out wearing jeans. None of that matters. Just banish all your good writing habits when you're noveling this month. The second thing is to take time to write every day. Even if it's just two sentences before supper on the off days, get in the habit of spending planned time on your novel.

Timed writing helps me when I'm stuck... Write non stop in __ minute increments... I usually set my clock for 30 minutes. On a good day, when the 30 minutes are up I've stumbled upon a new idea and I'm off to the races.
Good luck! That stuck feeling just doesn't feel good. Ignore it...

If you get stuck, and your out someplace (say barnes and nobles) look up and the first person you see, describe them in as much detail as you can. Then give em a career or have them meet that cute person next to them and write that. Sometimes just giving yourself something else to write in will get those words flowing as well.
What time are you thinking of writing in b&n on sun?
There's a write in on sund .in waterford from 4-8 but if its before that I will try to make it.

Thanks everyone for some excellent advice. I'm still not at my ideal word count but I've been cranking away at it. For the write in on sunday I was thinking about 12-3? Anyone who's going to be in the area, come on up to the cafe, I'll be the one with camo shoelaces and the world's largest laptop (It still runs Windows 95). Happy typing!
