I thought I'd start some new threads and see if we can't get people talking in here too. I know, its wordcount you could be applying to your novel, but humour me.

;)

So, how's it going? Is anything happening you didn't expect it to, or is it, in fact, going exactly as planned?
:)

It's easier than I thought it would be (in pure word count terms).

At the moment, my characters are behaving *mostly* as expected.

And I'm spending way more time on the forums than I ever would have budgeted for... ;)

One of my characters just announced to me he's having an affair with my protagonist's girlfriend (it's ok now, though, they're both dead!)

Have hit a bit of a block right now, hoping to write it out tonight. Tips welcome!

Well, it was all going terribly well, hitting the target, doing better that I thought I would (I'm not one of those people who already had a writing habit, and 2000 words seems to take me about three hours). The plot was slowing a bit, but nothing I couldn't handle. I have had to buy a new keyboard, and yesterday had a trip to Ikea to get some new legs for my desk which is too high for comfort. But all that is sorted, and I'm feeling good.

And then, I try to open my file yesterday, and it won't open! Of course, I'm not stupid, I have backups. So I go to open the last one, and - it won't open either! In the end, I had to go back a couple of days for a working backup, with the loss of 3000 words, which is quite a lot for me.

Thoughts of chucking the whole thing flit through my head, but I manage to dismiss them. Fortunately, I have a week's leave this week, which I was going to use to get ahead, but which will now have to be used to catch up. So, I'm hoping I'll remember most of what I've lost (and now I'm really glad I'd slowed down - it could have been twice as much!), and comforting myself with the idea that this time it will be even better.

Right, I've started another thread called 'pep talk'. If you need one and you want it in public, put a request in there, but basically, what I wanted to say is YES - its good if you get the 50k. Its the primary reason people join in the nanowrimo, but as Chris Batty and I discussed when we met in Edinburgh (and yes, I met him, he's fuuuuuny), the Nanowrimo has a word count so people have something to AIM for. If you're writing, that's the main thing.

It sucks when things won't open though. I've got a habit of saving them rtf format, if they can't open after that, I'm definatly in trouble ;)

Had my computer deleted my NaNo, on sunday.

... not the happiest evening of november. I'll tell you.

Fortunatly! I had an old copy in my email. So I only lost about 5000 words. So I'm current about 2000 words behind. fingers crossed I can get a load more done tonight.

So yay. Just completly lost momentum at the moment. sigh.
