word padding like crazy? In all the threads I'm reading on NaNo, everyone seems to be doing great and not having this problem. I know I am, but I was wondering if I'm the only crazy one out there X_x

As much as I love my NaNo, and my characters, I think they want to kill me. NaNo paranoia is beginning to set in :P

Also doing some serious word padding and most of my characters are actually trying to claw their way out of my computer to make complete and utter rampage across my life.

I'm slightly envious of how calmly my friends are taking this, but I guess that's their way of dealing with pressure.

I'm trying not to pad my word count to much but I am also a ways behind. It's not my character that are trying to kill me its the rest of my life that refuses to let me get enough done. If I can survive to the end of the moth I think I will have a party even if i don't get my nano finished. Best of luck to you both and "may the words be with you."

I haven't been. I have this thing in the back of my head that keeps shrieking, "Info Dumping! How can you do that to your potential readers!"

As of today, I'm stuffing a sock in that voice's mouth (both figurative), hog-tying it, and tossing it in the closet in the back of my head where the really sick and twisted ideas hide out. It can stay there until I'm ready to start editing again.

Thus...when and if I get a chance to write anything today...we're talking word padding city!

Plus, I've finally gotten to a character who doesn't speak or think in cant, so I don't have to worry so much about the slang.

I'm not sure whether or not to count the frighteningly huge TANGENT my first draft took as word padding. One character randomly decided she was a writer too and produced a very large chunk of practically unrelated fiction that, while very useful elsewhere later, is definitely not going to make it into the final version of the story in its current form. Still, since this 'is' supposed to be an unedited first draft, I let her write it and it turned into quite a lot of words. So yeah, it's a character padding it 'for' me in a way I think. ;)

I think it's not necessarily possible to tell what is padding and what is useful until you actually have time to go back and rewrite, revise, and edit. Last year, I had one hideous chapter that was all about one character walking around Lake Hefner and reminiscing about her life and considering her current worries, and surprise of surprises, when I was writing my second draft, I found that I was reusing almost all of that material in different ways.

I think I'm not word padding this year, but then again, I'm not quite sure what I am doing this year.

I would say I'm word padding productively. I've found that if I write what I know even if I think it is random it often ties in somehow to the goal or gets me going so that I can further plot better. (If having random theater jokes being told and dilerious dreams of unrelated situations that she wishes she was in instead of her own life isn't padding, I'm not sure what is....oh and going to sleep counting plot bunnies--I can't forget those scenes: one pink bunny two pink bunny, one blue bunny, three pink bunny, one orange bunny, four pink bunny, two blue bunny....) :D
