Recently in the WriMo blog, Chris talked about what music he usually listens to while writing. Some songs seem to inspire better than others. So I was just going to extend his question to those here who may not have seen it (cuz I'm nosey and I wanna know what you have to say lol):

What music/song do you most listen to while writing? Or do you even listen to music at all while you're working?

Currently I'm listening to Will Smith's latest album- Lost and Found. It's a little hard to work while listening because it makes me think too much during certain songs, but a few of them get me in the groove. After this I'll probably listen to Seryoga. He's a Russian hip-hop/rap artist. I tend to do well while listening to him because his stuff is really bouncy and that helps my fingers to move along lol.

I listen to whatever songs come up on shuffle. I have to have something going on in the background -- a quiet room is more distracting for me.

what kind of stuff is on your list? Is it from every genre, or just a few?

Pretty much most genres -- very little rap and country. Most people would say its pretty well mixed, everything from The Cranberries to Michael Buble to Classical.

Most of my foreign language stuff comes from my classical collection, left over from my music major days.

Hehe. Mine are mostly J-pop, Russian rap and one *really* good rock band, and some songs from hindi movies. Though I have a cd around here somewhere with songs from the middle east- some club stuff and some bellydance stuffs.

Bonnie Raitt
Jeff Healey
Eric Clapton
Paul Simon
Joan Jett
Melissa Etheridge
Sweet Honey In the Rock
Sarah Grove

Such an eclectic mix! Rock, blues, gospel. I don't like hip-hop/rap, though. And that screaming punk stuff, it all sounds the same after a while. Either that or my brain gets burnt.

I have a folder on my mp3 player with all the music I like to listen to while writing. That way it can just play that music and I don't have to fiddle with finding the next album or song I want.

Enigma (and other similar groups like Antaeus, Operatica, Deep Forest, Delerium, etc.)

Operatic goth like Within Temptation, After Forever, Leaves' Eyes, Cruxshadows

Straight opera-type music like Hayley Westenra, Sarah Brightman, Emma Shapplin, etc.

All I can say is Pandora is the best thing in the Universe. Seriously.

I listen to a lot of psytrance like infected mushroom but also classic jazz like John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, then of course Billie Holiday is my goddess, lots of random internet trance as well, goa and IDM...it all blends into the background for me. I like the electronica.

I second Pandora. I live off it away from my personal computer.

I love the trance-like state that can be induced by trance music. But, of course, I would. ;) :P
