What do you people use to count up the words in your documents? Do you count them at the end or as you go? I have been writing mine in google docs, which is nice because it is always available to me online no matter where I am and has a built in word count feature.

However I found that (at least right now) the nanowrimo bot counters say I have written 9 less words than google docs says. not a big deal, as long as that gap doesn't keep growing. I guess I was curious as to how you all are doing it.

And as always, hello.

I am using microsoft word so I just use the counter on it. I have not used the bot counter yet. so I do not know if there is a difference yet.

I do my writing in MS Word, but I did use the NaNo counter yesterday to see if I got the same number. I was happy to see that NaNo gave me 11 extra words!

There's usually some small discrepancy between whatever word counter you happen to be using and the NaNo counter...it's generally a good idea to write a few words over 50,000 just to be on the safe side when you upload. :-)

I use MS Word, and Sied (palm software), both of which have thier own word counters. I've noticed that Sied gives slightly less words, and Word a few more, so it's kind of a toss up, but I just write extra to make up for any words that NaNo might "short" me. I do count as I go, but I don't upload anything to the NaNo counter until the end of the month.

I use Microsoft Word, and use the word count there (tools, word count). The 2 years that I have done nano I have used it, and every time I have uploaded it to nano, it says that I have the same amount of words that Word said I did. I guess I will see if it is the same this year!

This is my first NaNo, so I'm curious if anyone has scrambled a novel prior to uploading for the word count, and whether you got a different result from the scramble than for the unscrambled words.

My MS word count was almost dead-on with the Nano counter.
