I am wondering what everyone else's plot is.
Just curious.
I am also wondering if anyone is acctually a "bleary eyed, sleep deprived novelist". I know i'm not, but what do I know, i'm behind. I have no way to go to bed late because I go to school, and I have homework. But does an adult really not have enough time to write without staying up 'til 2 am? I know sometimes people have to cram, but every night? Personally, i think that this whole concept has gone way out of poportion. Writing a 50,000 word rough draft of a novel in a month is hard, but not so hard that it ruins your life. And if it did, it seems like common sense would tell you to let you go a few days over the deadline, don't you think?

I'm writing as i go but basically my plot right now is about a twenty year old witch who is just starting to realize about the world around her because she has been so sheltered. She's trying to learn about the effects her king is having on the kingdom and what she can do to change it. She's met the prince who will be king soon and she could have an effect on him because he really likes her but along her journey she met a wizard whom she is starting to get interested in plus her cat (who can talk) has become involved in a group that plans to over throw the kingdom. Since i'm writing as i go i'm not quite sure where my characters will take me next.
I'm enjoying writing it though so that's what counts.
Well i like staying up late to write but that's because i work better at night. I think better and everyone is a sleep so i don't have any distractions. I do have work (i'm twenty-two) and i have three classes. No kids so i can't speak for those who have kids and a husband or wife but i am pretty busy. I haven't had any problems with my word count and i'm not sleep deprived (well not any more than usual). I do have a boyfriend, brother, and parents who demand my attention and i love it. With all that's going on i've been able to do everything as usual and still keep up on my word count.

This years plot: Squirrels having to deal with other squirrels wanting to take over the squirrel empire. Pretty much says it all. Sounds childish, and nonsensical, but it is a ton of fun to write.
---
As far as being sleep deprived: I spent pretty much yesterday sleeping most of the day. Every once in a while I get a day where I can just rest. Yesterday was my day. I did not write one word on my novel, but today I wrote 3,200 words in a little over two hours. I did not realize I had written that many until I saw what time it was. I had to go pick up my wife. So I saved my novel and went to shut down my computer and took a quick look to see where I was at, I was shocked to see that many words. I had to verify it one more time just to make sure. It was real.
I find days like today, really help me get through those days like yesterday, where I do not get anything written. I hit the ground running at first trying to get as much as I could at the beginning. That way I could have days like yesterday, and with the holidays coming up next week, I will be extremely busy dealing with travel, cooking, and family. So we will have to see if I was able to get far enough ahead to counteract those days of non-writing.
I have found that scheduling seems to be the issue for most people. I tried to set a schedule. It did not work. Now I try to keep my laptop handy so whenever I get the chance to write, I am able to type in at least a few words. As far as writing 50,000 words in a month, just break it down to how many you need to write in a day and try for that goal. At the end of the day, recalculate how many you will need to do the next day if you went over or under. I find that really helps. I am now down to 1,042 words a day that are needed to be done each day in order to make to the 50,000 word mark at the end of the month. Everyone starts out with 1,667 words a day, then they go up or down on their daily word count depending on if they meet or exceed those 1,667 words.
I hope this helps. Just remember to have fun with this, if it is not fun, something is wrong. Rearrange your schedule to be able to write at least a little everyday. If for some reason you do not make the 50,000 words by November 30th. That does not mean you still can't finish it. Take those extra few days into the beginning of December and finish it if you need to. Having finished in the month of November is exhilarating, but not devastating if you don't do it in that 30 day time frame. Enjoy the experience. This is my second year, and it is even better than last year. Good luck!

I have to admit I have had ALOT of sleepless nights but its for a good cause and its one month out of my life. That said...
As far as plot.. well the first couple sentences help with that....
The Inn had at one time been the town’s main attraction, from the comfortable accommodations to Ethel’s well known home cooking to the plush rose gardens. Everyone wanted to stay at Rose’s Inn. That is until no one started coming back home.
Good luck on your word count! And I agree have fun with it. Its all about letting your creative juices flow!

My plot goes like this:
Randy Bilmoor is a typical college student who happens to be the school's top baseball pitcher. As he is preparing to lead his team to the college world series and the summer's draft (the Yankees are scouting him, among other teams), he is 'abducted' by aliens. In a strange twist of fate, they tell him that everything he knew was a lie. His real name is Alaxandar Korona and he is the Prince and heir to the thrown of a planet called Tora. Shortly after his birth, his planet was attacked by a rival world and the king executed. The queen escaped temporarily and sent her child into hiding until his 21st birthday. Upon his 21st birthday, he would be retrieved and trained in the Mystical Arts to rescue his mother and restore peace to Tora and the rest of the galaxy along with the girl he was betrothed to as a child.
I do a lot of my writing at work (shhh, don't tell my boss!) When I'm too busy there, I have to lock myself in the basement away from the wife, kids, cats, and playstation. But the whole process is fun, especially when you let yourself go and just write. I tried to use outlines before, but they just don't work for me because frankly I don't know where the story is going! I know how I want to end the book, but I don't exactly know how I'm going to get there. That's just part of the journey of writing. If you let the story tell itself, it will be much better than if you try to force it.

The thing you gotta realize about adults is that this novel thing is not just a labor of love, it's an excuse to complain, which is what adults really love to do. Hence our interest in politics.
My seemingly unrelated plots are as follows: A janitor finds hidden truths about the past, present and future in the trash; a demoted deity finds a way to get revenge on monotheism; a demon finds a way to make bad jokes while killing innocent people, and two college roommates act like complete dorks but still have girls liking them.
Believe it or not, this is all based on a true story, except for the part about the janitor, the deity, the demon, and the "girls liking."

*snicker* How true!
You know, meetings held through the year until next November would be great opportunities to share our work if we wanted.
