Write Ins are great, I get a ton of words and have a good time...

Why I go to write-ins:

1) I have too many distractions at home that prevent me from writing.
2) I tend to write more when other people are staring at me and wondering why I'm not writing.
3) Shiny, shiny, shiny stars. Shiny. Ooooh shiny. ...uh, where was I?
4) Group mind is a beautiful thing. Even if I can't think of ANYTHING to write, eventually I'll pick up a stray thought, or see something out of context that will set me off on a mental tangent. Watching people study or talk at other tables when you're listening to really incongruent music is worth the trip.
5) The tickle trunk - while I virtually never actually use it for its intended purpose, just knowing it's there is comforting.
7) Coffee... and buttertart slice...
8) On a clear night I can see the moon between the building sometimes. :)
9) They gave me this goofy t-shirt and seem to think I know what I'm doing.... ? *heh*
10) It's really the only time I use my laptop or my Palm keyboard, and I paid too much not to use them...
11) I write faster in a group. It's probably the sound of so many keys at once... I feel like I'm lagging behind...

All the reasons Betty mentioned, plus I just like seeing the faces of my fellow writers. It gives NaNo a more human aspect.

Agreeing with all of the above... the single-mindedness is great for getting stuff down. Hearing other people typing around me (or, with earbuds in, merely being aware of the phenomenon) doesn't feel to me like pressure to keep up, so much as added momentum that I can build off of. I'm not competitive by nature, not really at all, and so in this way write-ins work great for me. They work just as well for competitive spirits, too, of course... just have a Word War with someone else at your table and compare numbers at the end. ;)

Well, I find myself waaaaay more productive outside of the house than in. I think that of my (currently) 22K, 18 or 19K was written at the library or in coffee shops (I love you, Fyxx in the Exchange!).

Also, this being #5 for me, I think at this point getting out and meeting the rest of the nano gang is pretty much as important as the writing. When I moved to Toronto, I met probably 90% of the friends I made out there through nano. It seems to be a draw for very nifty people.

So that's why *I* like the write-ins :)

I GET TO WRITE! YAY!

No really. I actually get to write. I write way better when I'm out in public, somewhere away from home, because I lose a lot of the distractions I get when I'm normally at home. I actually wrote more at today's (15th) write-in than I did at the last one, because I didn't even have my music (blasted headphones getting lost!).

The internet also really helps when you're trying to guess how far a local radio signal can go out. ^^;

I meet new and interesting people from like every walk of life possible. Even if I don't talk all that much. I'm shy, okay?! ;_;

I laugh every time I read the Bean's logo "Fuel for the human race" and think of NaNo.

I get out of the house. I shudder to think what people would think of how many hours I spend on the computer each day. And yes, it rivals my time spent at school.

Ahhhh.. I can't think of anymore right now. Hehe. :)

I've only been to one (I was the person sitting in the corner and not talking), but it was great. I'm not sure how many words I got, but 6 pages handwritten looks impressive, okay? It was nice to see everyone, because if I don't know what people look like I think of them all as one entity.

I am far more productive when I am doing the write in style, even if it's simply bundling everything up and going out of my way to go to the coffee shop, after all that effort I cannot find the resources left to slack, so I write.
it's an oppourtunity fro someone like me who doesn't live online *nods to Randilin & Betty and smiles* not that it's a bad thing, but I like to see people and find out where they are at. We don't talk much so not really socializing.
And well, now I have my very own incredible shirt of loudness and it really does lose something when you cannot see it's blinding.. um... beauty.
I wrote 4,000 words in 1 and 1/2 hrs at coffee shop and a whopping 500 at home... far more motivated.

Does wearing your Bomber jersey count as proper attire? ;D
