Hey everyone, this little thread is a party for those of us who have made the halfway point: 25k!
Good job and keep up the goodness!
Welcome to the party. Now, get up out of your chair, do a little dance, treat yourself to a cookie, then get back to work!
Halfway done, folks. It's all downhill from here!
:)

I hope to join the party sometime tomorrow. When I do, I'll make sure I break out my kick-ass Frankenstein-the-Marionette dance (hint: you must be a middle-aged, middle-class white boy to even attempt these moves. Anyone else would burst into flames from the sudden influx of anti-cool particles).

Enough mad jubilation, I must return to writing!

Ding!
In honor of my accomplishment, I am going to share my Frankenstein-the-Marionette dance step with all of you:
1. Hold your hands at your sides, about waist-high, and about six inches away from your hips.
2. Imagine a string connecting each hand to your hipbones.
3. Use your right hand to pull on the right hip's imaginary string, causing your hip to lurch to the right side. Your torso will correspondingly lurch leftwards. Repeat the hip-tugging motion in two or three quick jerking motions.
4. Pause, then perform the same motion with your left hand, causing your body to reverse its horrible lurching motion. Again, make the hip-pull an arhythmic pulsing.
Rinse and repeat indefinitely (or until your significant other tells you to stop because you look like a complete idiot).

25k is pretty incredible, once you step back from the NaNo world and look at it objectively. Good luck with the rest of your story, no matter how long it takes!

Well, yeah...I'm...not going to get there by the end of the month. I let myself get distracted at various points. But I'm gonna hit 50k+ because my story deserves it. Looking at past completed stories, what I've got so far is the longest story I've written, so that's a start.
Congrats to those who won...and...well hit halfway too. Cause ya beat me so far.

Yeah, the first couple years I did Nano I got distracted, too. My first attempt I only hit 13,000 words so you are beating my first effort! If you just try to beat your previous word count each year you will eventually make 50,000. Keep up the good work, Mike, because I really want to read your story!

Mike, as the Brits say, "Press on."
For me, it's two words: Kansas Basketball.
It's not the reason I didn't make it but it did have a negative impact on my word count. What can I say? I refuse to give it up.
Next year, I need to do better time/word count management.
I need a 4000 word day tomorrow to get to 30000. I have serious doubts.

Hey, I still need over 10k by midnight tomorrow to "win" this. Can I do it? Will it harm me not to? Either way, I'm pretty proud of how far I've come thusly, and I still have gotten farther on this than on any other story I've ever written. Hell, I don't even know if I have 10k words of story left in the story I have.
And you were right Ted: I do feel better knowing that I didn't just give up.

You can do it! And if so, that's a LOT of words.

10k is a lot, but it's not insurmountable. At the very least you can give it a try, right?
Good luck!
