I know you all think 'Hey, Ellie, what gives? We're only at the half-way day! It's too early to think about the NaNo after-party!' but when it comes to December events you want to organise it and book everything with LOTS of time to spare.

That being said - let's start putting our votes in for what we want to do at the Thank God It's Over (TGIO) party!!!

Now, the date is usually on a weekend in early December. MOST LIKELY it'll be either Saturday 1st/8th or Sunday 2nd/9th.

We have dinner and then we do an activity. Considering we've been sitting in front of our computers (or Danas ;-P) for the past month, getting out to stretch the ol' legs is a GOOD thing. *giggles* The past two years it was Sizzler for the buffet and bowling (at Strike Bowling bar) after that. If you're happy doing that again just say 'yes'. If not, I would absolutely ADORE your suggestions if you can think of a different activity/place for dinner!

The time will most likely be at 6pm (dinner) and then an hour to two after that we'll do the activity.

So, raise of hands please!

If you want Sizzler/Strike - say 'AYE!'
OR
If you want a different dinner/activity - say 'NAY' and give us your suggestions!

Quick note: last time I was at the Sizzler restaurant in the city, about two months back, the girl at the counter said they were shutting down in September.

I haven't been anywhere near since then, so can anyone confirm that yes, Sizzler still exists in the city, and that they will continue to do so until December?

I've also heard that Sizzler is either gone or imminently going.
Anyway, I'm not really that great a fan of Sizzler - surely there is somewhere with a less scungy approach to being a restaurant we could go to without exploding budgets?

I'm more than happy with Strike -- but it would seem that Sizzler is out?

And I vote for the first weekend in December (1st/2nd) but I should be able to accommodate any date you guys decide upon... :-)

Yeah, Sizzler has buffet-style fail.

Strike Bowling Bar is okay, though. It has one thing I like, just in the title! :)

I would vote for O'Malleys Irish Pub, just near Strike. A problem would be if any of our beloved under-18 WriMos wish to come - a possible solution is that people can get foods at ze pub of any age until a certain time? Like 7 or 8 or something? Or the table section of the Pig N Whistle? Either would minimize walking and maximize beer consumption. This is a good thing.

Sizzler in the city is definitely closed at the moment and there are no plans to re-open it at this stage.

Could I suggest Wagamama's followed by Strike Bowling Bar? That way there's no worries about the under 18s being excluded but people can still purchase alcohol with their meals; they cater to the vegetarians/gluten intolerant amongst us and the prices are reasonable and the meals are huge. Plus Strike is right next door *grins*

Hope that was useful, sorry if it's already been thought of/mentioned.

Okay, we haven't had much in the way of what DATES people can come along - care to help me out a bit here, guys? I'm going to need to book these places soon!!

So far we have:
1st week - 1 x yes / 1 x no
2nd week - 1 x yes

Also, I've had a heap of suggestions come in for places to eat.
Here is the run-down of choices for eateries thus far:
* O'Malleys Irish Pub - we will be out before 8 fo' sho'
* Pig N Whistle
* Wagamama's
* Nando's (either in the Myer Centre or down on Charlotte Street - might be a bit of a hike for some though)

So if you don't plan on suggesting any other places - raise your hands for one of these ;-)
AND GIMME DATES OR I'LL CHOOSE SOMETHING M'SELF... and then everyone will groan about how that doesn't work for them ;-P

Any place that can be accessed by trains (possibly buses if I'm adventurous and they don't frighten me too much) and will serve minors with tasty, tasty food is A-OK with me! And seeing as I'll be on holidays, most dates should be fine too :D

I was going to say any weekend, but because of a new job I just got today I will have to say I can only make it on either Sunday. Any place is fine as long as it has food...

Can I put forward the suggestion of the Pancake Manor for the food part of this excursion?

I'll be there, as will American Chum! The later weekend would be better for us, but we can make either one. As for food, Wagamama's sounds good, though the Chum is always a big fan of Nando's.

Hmm... 1st is recovering from work christmas party, although I suppose I can come surly.. :D

8th is a house warming which rules out the 9th... lawl...

Social life what?

Not sure what the end result of this thread was, but if there's a definite date, I'll definitely try to be there.

NOT Friday. I need to give two weeks notice if I can't work and since I just got the job this week and that's next week...

I vote Saturday or Sunday. I don't care as long as it's not on Friday because I want to make it.

I have never been to either place of food so the rest of you lot get to vote on that. Hehe.

Fancy dress sounds fun. Where I would get fancy dress from however is another question but I'm sure I could dig something up.

Wagamama's is in Queen St Mall just outside the Wintergarden area. Strike Bowling bar is up the escalator a few feet away :) Hard to miss.

Let's do a Friday and a Saturday! :P Whichever day ends-up being the official one, have an unofficial one on the other day.
I'd be in to coming along to both.

Fancy dress? Hmm. The fact that I'm a male and will be in the city out past sundown on a weekend means I can't get away with that. My physical wellbeing has to come before silly hats and clothes, I'm afraid. ;) Unless I bring something that is easily concealed or removed.

What's a Wagamamas?... I know of the Pancake Manor in Charlotte Street - is this of what we are speaking?

Well, I'm more than happy to vote for Saturday the 8th, at Wagamama's! :-)

As usual, I'm flexible -- but if having a vote from me helps at all, there 'tis!

(Now I just gotta find Wagamama's!)

Edit: As for fancy dress: well no, it's not something I tend to do -- but I may yet come dressed as my character; that may be possible, even for me! :-)

It will be next weekend if any. Tomorrow is too close to even have a slim chance of booking anywhere and the 21st and 23rd is too close to Christmas for everyone.

Sounds cool. Will hopefully be able to come.
Fancy dress huh? Hmm. I might goth up for the occasion.

You know, I don't really have anything to add to this thread, I just like seeing my name with my pretty purple bar!
