Hello everyone. My name is Lindsey. I started Nano today. But I'm writing well. I would have to write close to 3500 a day to make it on the 30th. :(
So, anyway, I was wondering if there were any late starters like I. Maybe we could instant message each other to give each other encouragement or ideas. My AIM is lklittle325 and my YIM is fuzedstar.

Welcome aboard, Lindsey! I don't do the IM thing any more because it slows down my ancient computer too much. I've seen other late starters posting on various forums and then there are folks like me who are lagging way behind on word count because too much of life's Stuff Happens struck--so you are very much not alone.

You might be interested in logging into NaNo's chat room. Click on the Fun Stuff button at the top of every page, and then click on the link on the left-hand side of the page. But remember to Write Your Daily Quota First and Play Later. On days that my mouse rebels and clicks its way here before I write, I only allow myself to read the short daily interview on the home page. This revs my Muse's engine, gets those plots points firing away in my brain.

Good luck!
Janice

I've come to realize that it will be next to impossible for me to finish on time. So I have made a goal to get as many words down as I can. It will be relieving to finally get to bed at a decent hour and be able to associate with friends. Anyway, while it was good fun stressing out over getting so many words on a single document, all good times must come to an end.

I wondered if anyone was interested in cheering each other on through December for those of us that are going a bit slow.
I started writing a section about some kids who were out doing what they shouldn't be and not telling parents and happened to have changed one of the characters from Alex to Ben because the possessive form of Alex sounded forced. I was up to around 5000 on Nov 5 when a kid in our area (I'm sure you saw the news) went missing on the 5th and found 13th (named Ben). Anyway, too close to home. Then I was on call for my job for a week. Ugh. All I want to do is write all day and when I finally get to the computer, Im exhausted.

Anyway, My goal is to at least hit 30000 by the 30th but I would like to email with someone who wants to keep working at it through December. Otherwise, I fear I will let it slip. I have four other "novels" up to about 6000 wds and this is the first time I've almost hit 10,000. I know this one month speed writing thing works but I'm afraid half the month was spent in emotional or work related upheaval. So glad all that is over (as of this morning, no longer on call-Yea).

Good luck to all and have a great Thanksgiving.

BranD,
Count me in for the December write-on-and-on. I've also joined two NaNo spin-off sites:
National Novel Publishing Year -- http://www.nanopubye.org

A discussion of how it works, including fiinishing 1st draft of novel in December, revisions (see NaNoEdMo below), writing synopsis and query letters:
http://www.nanopubye.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22&forum=3...

A template to use for the whole year:
http://www.rjantley.com/tools/TEMPLATE_PubYeModularTimeline.xls

The second site is National Novel Editing Month (held in March):
http://www.nanoedmo.net/xoops/
A site glitch keeps you from registering right now, but the powers that be say they're working on it.

Good luck & hang in there to all of us!

Hey, y'all. I will encourage any of you to do whatever you need to do this month. If that's letting NaNo go, do it! If that's using the energy of NaNo to get as much written as you can, do it! If you wrote anything and you got something valuable out of the experience, it's all good. If it's not working out right now to write 50,000 words, it's wise to step back and take a look at your priorities. NaNo can't take over your life at the expense of other things that are more important to you right now. You've already learned that you can write a lot in a short time and there's nothing stopping you from carrying that into the rest of the year and picking up your novel again when the time is right.

BranD, congrats on writing more than you've written on one piece before! Check around the rest of the forums if you haven't already, because there are almost always some threads for people who plan to continue writing into December. All the forums remain open all year except for a brief period usually in late September when they're closed and reset to be ready for sign-ups the first of October. Participation drops off a lot after November, but there are usually a good many people in the other forums year-round. If you'll send me a NaNoMail, I will give you my email address and I will be very happy to keep cheering you on as long as you need, whatever you need to keep you from slipping. (That offer is open to all, by the way.)

I wish you all the best in continuing your writing!

edit: Goodness gracious, Janice, are you up early or up late, woman? It's 5:30! I hope you're doing well. Happy Thanksgiving!

Soynut,
I haven't gotten up early in decades but I frequently stay up later than most folks. You hinted at the first write-in that you live a similar lifestyle . At least once or twice a week I have to ask my husband what day it is. I went to bed at 6:30 AM today (Thursday--I know it's Thursday because we ate turkey & I only do that once a year), got up at 10:00 AM & got ready for doing the home buffet thing with family. I hope to crash and burn before midnight.

Happy Give Thanks Day back at you and to all ...
Meeting y'all has certainly blessed my life and enriched my writing.

Thanks!!!!!
